Manning Quinn (1 Viewer)

Zaphod

Two heads are better than one
Brady Quinn was obviously given the wrong name. I think by now we all can see that Brady, not Eli, is Peyton's real little brother. This guy absolutely comes up small in big games. Now I know, before all the apologists come running to defend the next great white dope, that it is not all his fault. The team simply does not have the athletes to compete with the best teams in the country. BUT, he isn't just pedestrian in these games, he can't hit the ground without the help of gravity in these games.

Now, I like to watch Peyton Manning tear someone up in week 7 of the season as much as the next guy, but jeez, has anyone done more by winning fewer important games in his career? I mean, come on, he is on every other commercial. Marino only had those lame Isotoner commercials and Fouts didn't have anything, of course after further reflection, that may have had more to do with his Grizzly Adams beard than anything

The comparisons are there, and it really is quite scary. Brady Quinn has the physical tools. He can make all the throws, has a nice touch, decent footwork, solid release, good escapability and can definitely read defenses. I get how NFL scouts will have a hard time looking past those credentials. However, in the big games he is just like big brother, Peyton. We all poo-pooed it when Manning couldn't win with extremely talented Tenn teams. We all laughed at the 'coincidence' when Tee Martin (who?) won the national title the year after Manning graduated with a team that lost a lot of talent to the NFL. We still love to try to shrug it off after years of playoff disasters in the NFL. The warning signs are there. Is this guy really going to go #1 in the upcoming draft?

I actually think that he's more like Eli than Peyton. Peyton almost never makes stupid throws into double coverage. Eli heaves stupid passes up quite often. I think that Quinn does the same thing. Peyton, even when he plays poorly, hardly ever has major accuracy problems. But Quinn and Eli both tend to overthrow receivers because they're throwing off of their back foot when they get pressured.

And while some people may question Peyton's method of leadership, he's definitely the leader of the Colts. Eli looks like Bambi out there on the field and Quinn doesn't really seem like a very verbal leader either.

I really don't see the comparison at all.

We don't need to make this a thread arguing about Peyton Manning, because there's 8 million of those already. But love him or hate him, Peyton Manning is among the best quarterbacks in the NFL and has put up huge numbers against good defenses.

All Brady Quinn has done is pad stats against service academies and other weak competition. It's not "big" games where Quinn falls short. It's ANY real game. When Quinn's receivers aren't embarassingly wide open, or he can't throw the 6'5 Samardzija a jump ball against a 5'9 corner, he can't do anything. You put him against NFL defenses and he will be hopeless.

To compare Brady Quinn to Peyton Manning is an insult to Peyton Manning. Quinn will never be 1/4 as good as Peyton.

As much as I am loathe to admit it, Quinn did indeed lay an egg last night.

But he certainly wasn't helped out by a) the lousy gameplan, b) poor receiver play*, and c) zero blitz protection.

A) i- They became entirely one-dimensional in the 2nd half.

ii - You're down by 20 with 11 minutes left and you punt when you're at your own 40? Why not just take a knee?

B)*Jeff Samardzija looked like he was sleepwalking out there. I don't think he wanted anyone getting the idea that he'd like to be a pro football player. I'd also like to see a stat of the number of dropped balls

C) I didn't see the ND line/backs pick up a blitz properly once all evening.

All that was shown last night was that Quinn can't win a game on his own. And that ND didn't belong there in the first place.

The positive is that he seems pretty intelligent and could be coached to a much higher level on the pro level and ultimately be successful. Conversely, if there's not talent around him and he's coached poorly, then yes, he'll likely bust.

After watching last night fiasco I am very nervous about drafting Brady

You want to bash Brady Quinn by saying he's the next Peyton Manning? If you could prove this was the case, it would improve his stock rather than cause it to drop.

Not even remotely close.

Did you see Quinn ##### about his defense or his blocking after the game? I don't think so. He's 10 times the guy Peyton is, don't insult him.

Does it count as a drop if it hits him in the face?

 :lmao: :D :lmao:
that was a great play. I couldnt believe it.
Anyone have video of this play?
That kid is one of the most arrogant athletes I have seen on a football field in a LONG time. After every catch...all season...he would pop up; #### his wrist and flip the football in that Joe (blanking) Cool manner at or towards another player or ref. Good to see he finally got flagged for it. Landry had a clear shot at him on that reverse in the first quarter. I was hoping to see a little humility knocked into Samardzija but Landry missed his chance.

Dang it, the more I think about it, the more I'm convincing myself that the detractors are right about this guy.

One thing that was apparent last night was that Quinn just doesn't have "it". "It" being what I can only describe as the "aura of leadership" about him that other good QBs do. A QB can be average in talent and succeed if he's above average in leadership. Quinn just doesn't seem to be that way.

I think he is an AWFUL lot like Eli Manning in that regard.

The biggest point for scout's last night was when ND folded onit's own 40-45 yard line late in the 1st half...shouldn't they have had Quinn at least launch a pass down field for possible PI at the least?

They didn't because he doesn't have the arm to make a throw 50-60 yards down the field...Quinn has a weak arm and will not be drafted very high in April. If he is, that team is making a big mistake and wasting a top pick.

Russell on the other hand showed how awesome he might be at the next level. Still might be too big almost fo rthe QB position but he is talented nonetheless.
