MANZIEL STARTS. OFFICIAL (1 Viewer)

Ignore Gordon.

If you're in tune to CLE sports, specifically the Browns, you're likely aware these two have been counting down the days until they started together.

Thought experiment:

QB A (let's call him "Matt") throws for 250 yards, 2 TDs and no picks. A very solid performance in other words, the kind you'd be happy to get out of any QB short of a Rodgers / Peyton-level stud.

QB B (let's call him "Johnny") has a rough day, passing for only 160 yards and one TD, and throwing 2 INTs to boot. Oh, but he adds 60 yards on the ground and runs one in on a bootleg.

Guess what? In almost any league that doesn't award 6 points for passing TDs, Johnny and Matt finish within one or two fantasy points of each other. In some formats, Johnny actually outscores Matt.

If you're trusting your playoff life to a replacement-level caliber QB, one who can make plays with his legs is, oddly, a lower-risk play than a better passer who can't.

I think Johnny is going to have a good game. He will also likely throw an INT or 2. His rushing yards are going to make him a FF starter.

I've been going back and forth with Johnny or Sanchez. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward Johnny. The upside is massive. Unfortunately so is the downside in his first start...

I've got to make the same choice. All the rankings say go with Sanchez but Johnny is playing a Cincinnati team weak against the run. I'm sure there will be a number of running plays planned for Johnny along with a few deep balls aimed at Gordon. Sanchez wasn't a world beater against Dallas last time. I'm still thinking about it but I may pull the trigger and go Johnny. 200yds passing w/1TD, 80yds rushing w/1TD. would be 25 pts in my scoring system. I'd take that.

Once Johnny starts using his legs (hopefully very early in the game), Gordon should find a little more room. I think we'll get at least one 50+ yard TD to Gordon this week. Add that to whatever else he does through the air and on the ground...and I see a definite QB1 this week.

Is he a safe bet to get at least 35 yds rushing?
With coverage dropping back to cover Gordon and Cameron on deep routes, 35 seems a safe bet.
I read where Browns OC Kyle Shanahan is also scheming in some read-option to utilize Manziel's running capability so unless the kid gets hurt early I think 35 rushing yards is reasonably attainable.

Also did you see this?

Before Manziel the Browns Bengals game was only getting limited TV exposure but after the Manziel announcement the viewership was changed and now 200 million more Americans are going to have the Browns Bengals game.

Jeesh. I know the kid is popular but man this is insane.

Go to the link to see how the viewership map changed overnight:

Does this news bump Crowell's value? CIN is pretty bad against the run anyway, so they are probably not going to be very good against the read-option plays... plus they may want to make sure Manziel doen't beat them with his legs.

Has to be asked...who's doing it this week?
yea, but it's a six team league in which you can start up to four quarterbacks.
I'm giving serious consideration to benching Russell Wilson for him. I got lucky last week and need a high ceiling play this week. My gut says Wilson won't need to do much to win and will be in cruise control.
I was coming on here to post the same dilemma. I have Wilson going aganst my opponent who has Brady, Gronk, Foster and Hikton as his best players. I'm most likely not going to play Julio even if he's active--I smell decoy. Add to this, I played Mason (and Rams D) last night and now I feel like a serious, serious underdog. Wilson's numbers are never good against SF although last time he seemed to close to throwing a couple more TDs. If I'm not mistaken though, Wilson has never had more than 35 rushing yards against them. So, yeah, panic is setting in and I'm considering JFF.

In another league where I'm not considered an underdog, I believe I'm rolling with Sanchez over both Wilson and Manziel.

I'll third this Wilson vs Manziel dilemma. Crazy as it seems, I'm leaning Manziel right now. Agonizing.

Got him starting in 1 super flex league with Luck. I'm expecting/hoping for 200+ yards, 1-2 TDs, 40 yds rushing with a turnover or 2 sprinkled in. That's good enough for me.

Same options. Anybody else consider the possibility the 49ers bail on Harbaugh and start mailing it in? I'm still leaning Wilson at this point.

not looney with how inconsistent Stafford has been as i thought the same, but it's the playoffs and he has a favorable matchup (MS that is)

What the hell is this thread doing on page 2? Bump.

18 hours to game time. Time to wreck the league!

I have him penciled in as my first qb in my start 2 qb league. Had cam and Brady. Now have Johnny "football championship" with Brady. I think he could have a clunker but he also could be spectacular. Team I'm playing has Rodgers, Murray, lynch, foster, Maclin, Nelson...it is just a sick team. I need to swing for the fences and hope for some bad performances from his stars.

not saying johnny is cam newton, but cincy did allow cam to have his only 100 yard rushing game of the season and with burfect out it does present opportunity for a mobile qb.

My gut prediction for Manziel today is that he's gonna hit Gordon on 1 long TD, but only throw for like 150-180 total yards and a couple of picks. But I also think he rushes for 75 yards and a score. All of which I think equates to a fairly solid fantasy day, depending on your scoring system.

Watching this game, the WRs have had multiple drops and the O-line has been mentally gone. Manziel not doing anything either but execution has been really bad

It will be interesting to see if the WRs are officially credited with "drops". Some of these passes are outside of the range of catchability.
