Yeah, I wish it was more detailed. I'll look around.I couldn't zoom in enough... did NYC finally ditch Staten Island?

You mean like Michigan?Cool but I think they should have tried for some standard of borders. Wisconsin shouldnt have a huge lake cutting itself in half.
Yeah I would live in Menominee and though I like some things about it that shape is ridiculous.Cool but I think they should have tried for some standard of borders. Wisconsin shouldnt have a huge lake cutting itself in half. If there could be a way to "fix" that, I'd like to see it.
Is there a huge pdf file of this?

Also can't tell what state Lansing is in.
As far as California goes it is tough to say.Which cities are better off with the realignment? In other words which areas would be better off financially or culturally by being severed from some other areas of their existing state?
I know for sure southern Illinois would be absolutely fine with not being attached to Chicago for example.
How bout "Talibama" instead?Cold day in hell before they rename Alabama after Dr. King
It's to have fun with.I'm not sure what this chart is useful for and it's even more vague with the goofy made-up names.
It purports something interesting, but I don't know what. The shapes are somewhat arbitrary. I guess that bugs me. Plus the names. It's to have fun with.I'm not sure what this chart is useful for and it's even more vague with the goofy made-up names.

What is this based on density?
What would the Senate look like with these borders?![]()
I think I misread your question. I assume now, you mean in terms of republican/democrat.What is this based on density?![]()

This sounds like something from Game of Thrones.Elyria as the capital of Firelands?![]()
Ed Zachary. Maybe one of our political wonks can take a guess. I look at Ogallala and see a loss of a bunch of seats that probably go Republican all the time. But that might be offset by gains resulting in Texas splitting up. This isn't one of my strong areas but would like to hear from the people who know stuff. Not jon_mx , though.I think I misread your question. I assume now, you mean in terms of republican/democrat.What is this based on density?![]()

I don't think it's meant to be the capital. Just a city of 50-100k population. Which I also find astounding as any time I've been there it looks like a ghost town.Bobcat10 said:Elyria as the capital of Firelands?![]()
Pretty sure the Senate would look the same. 100 people in a room.

Some details from the artist. What was the reason for the new names?
Mesabi here.
The capitals of the states are existing states capitals where possible, otherwise large or central cities have been chosen. The suggested names of the new states are taken mainly from geographical features:
The words used for names for the name are drawn from many languages, including many American Indian languages. While some etymologies are unclear, the root languages for the state names include Abenaki (Casco), Algonquian (Nodaway, Pocono, Willimantic), Apache (Chinati), Calusa (Tampa), Choctaw(Atchafalaya), English, French (Detroit, Ozark, Rainier), Greek (Philadelphia), Iroquoian (Shenandoah), Lakota (Ogallala), Latin (Columbia), Luiseño (Temecula),Mayaimi (Miami), Mamaceqtaw (Menominee), Miami-Illinois (Chicago), Mohawk (Adirondack), Muscogee (Muskogee), Nahuatl (Tule), Odawa (Maumee), Ojibwe(Mesabi), Potawatomi (Sangamon), Susquehannock (Susquehanna) and Wyandot (Scioto).
- mountain ranges or peaks, or caves – Adirondack, Allegheny, Blue Ridge, Chinati, Mammoth, Mesabi, Ozark, Pocono, Rainier, Shasta, Shenandoah andShiprock
- rivers – Atchafalaya, Menominee, Maumee, Nodaway, Sangamon, Scioto, Susquehanna, Trinity and Willimantic
- historical or ecological regions – Big Thicket, Firelands and Tidewater
- bays, capes, lakes and aquifers – Casco, Tampa Bay, Canaveral, Mendocino, Ogallala, Salt Lake and Throgs Neck
- songs – Gary, Muskogee and Temecula
- cities – Atlanta, Chicago, Columbia, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington
- plants – Tule and Yerba Buena
- people – King and Orange
Keep in mind that this is an art project, not a serious proposal, so take it easy with the emails about the sacred soil of Texas. That said, if you have any questions, drop me a line.
You might have to buy the poster.Officer Pete Malloy said:Yeah, I wish it was more detailed. I'll look around.El Floppo said:I couldn't zoom in enough... did NYC finally ditch Staten Island?
A poster version of the map is for sale. The poster has much more detail than the map here, including hundreds of smaller cities, an inset for the New York area and better elevation shading. The poster is 22″ by 28″ (56 x 71 cm).
The poster is $35 and ships first class to your door, safely packed in a sturdy tube.
I'd buy that in a Throg's Neck minute! You might have to buy the poster.Officer Pete Malloy said:Yeah, I wish it was more detailed. I'll look around.El Floppo said:I couldn't zoom in enough... did NYC finally ditch Staten Island?
