Marcedes Lewis (1 Viewer)

I imagine his injuries set him back quite a bit in the game plan, hence his limited use. That, and Wrightster's effective play this year.

His time will probably come, but it might take a year or two.

Does anyone have an idea how he will be used in 2007? There is a huge logjam of talented and underproducing WRs, so unless Lewis shows he is that much better of a target than Jones, Williams, Wilford and now Walker I fear he will be left out of the targets available.

oy..... at UCLA this young man was amazing. Is he now trapped in Jax? I have a hard time believing that he isn't worth throwing the ball to. :(

The problem is you have a run-first offense, with an erratic QB and three decent (albeit non-spectacular) receivers in Jones, Williams and Wilford. That doesn't leave a ton of fantasy points in the passing game.

Interesting that none of the TEs that were hyped last year has amounted to much so far, Davis, Lewis, Klopfenstein, Byrd.

Davis and Lewis were on their way, but both got hurt. Klop and Byrd have ended being mediocre (klop) headcases (Byrd).Scheffler on the other hand...

It seemed people were talking up Pope as well, but not to the extent as the previously mentioned.Bloom - you have Lewis ranked under a little more than a dozen other TEs in your latest dynasty rankings. Is that mostly due to situation, or lack of ability?

I forgot Pope because I never really liked him much - too stiff. It's not lack of ability. I love his hands and he's fluid going for the ball. Its because they brought in Wiggins. Now Lewis may show them early on that that was a wasted pickup, that he's better in that role, but as someone brought up earlier in the thread, Tice knows Wiggins, so I don't know that they'll acknowledge that very easily... pure speculation, but I think Lewis waits at least another year before becoming a go-to guy.

I had read somewhere... maybe after the Wiggins signing... that that signing would help Lewis. He was held in to block often last year (going by what I remember reading, no link) often, and that they would run more TE sets this year which would allow Lewis to get into the pattern more often. I own him in a couple of leagues, so I took a mental note, if not a link... sorry about that.

I have a wait and see attitude on him this year. If the report I read was an accurate assessment, then great.... but we hear a lot of rosy reports on players during the off season. Wait and see.... but in the meantime, I will hold too.

But Wiggins is at average blocker at best. :goodposting:

If in a 2-TE set one blocks and one runs a pattern, I'd bet that Lewis would be the blocker.

Yeah that was my initial impression too. Lewis is a good blocker for such a lanky guy, and probably already better than Wiggins.

Everything i read is that coming out of college he was a very weak blocker, so if the Jags are counting on him for blocking they are either in big trouble or he's gotten a lot better in the past year.

Lewis was always an underrated blocker imo. Granted, he doesnt have the "3rd tackle" body that some TEs do, which relegates him to more wall-off blocking than road grading, but it's not like he's Greg Olsen.

Ok, I just thought i remembered blocking as one of the major weaknesses of Lewis, but i guess he might be good at certain types of blocking. They didn't use him much as a blocking TE at UCLA, so that could be why most reports had it as a weakness.

If Lewis is a better blocking TE than Wiggins, then Wiggins must really suck. Lewis is not a good blocker. I'll have to look around for that article....

Matt from Jacksonville: How will the Jaguars’ running game be impacted by the loss of Kyle Brady? Can you rate the run-blocking and pass-blocking skills of George Wrighster, Marcedes Lewis and newly-acquired Jermaine Wiggins? Can any of these tight ends replace the blocking skills of Brady?

Vic: The Jaguars lost one of the best blocking tight ends I have ever covered. If tight ends made it into the Hall of Fame for blocking, Kyle Brady would be a first-ballot inductee. Ironically, while Brady played for the Jaguars, all I ever got were questions about the Jaguars not throwing the ball to him and when were the Jaguars going to get a tight end who could catch? Now that he’s gone, I’m getting tons of questions about what it will mean to the team’s running game that they lost Brady in free agency. So what will it mean? It means one of their tight ends will have to become a go-to blocker. I know Jack Del Rio believes Marcedes Lewis is a better blocker than people think and I know Del Rio believes Lewis can further develop his skills. I know that George Wrighster has blocking skills. I don’t expect Jermaine Wiggins to be an answer to the loss of Brady. Wiggins is a pass-catcher. The return of Greg Jones at fullback may be the greatest new blocking resource in the running game. I also want to wait until I see what Dirk Koetter has planned for utilizing the tight ends, before I decide what losing Brady will mean.
