Marcedes Lewis (1 Viewer)

I scooped this guy up in a couple of my dynasty leagues when he was a rookie.

Woops.

He's been terrible.

Is there any reason to expect a turnaround? Every offseason I hear that he's going to make an impact and it never comes to fruition. At this point the waiver wire fodder is starting to look better.

Is he really terrible or are they just not using him right? Living in Los Angeles, I thought he was a talented player who would do well in the NFL. But I don't see enough of Jax to know what is really going on with him.

I've been a HUGE proponent of Marcedes in the offseason, but if he cannot make some plays with Jones as the #1 and both Porter & Northcutt out, he'll never make plays.

Have him also in dynasty and may get dropped to take a chance on someone else.

I have only seen one Jax game and that was last week's - he dropped two passes and should have had another. He doesn't get many targets but he isn't doing anything with the ones he is getting...

Watching him in college he has great hands but I think he has the Roddy White syndrome. Just not getting consistent looks and when he finally gets them he's dropping them. Kinda hard to stay focused when you dont know if your gonna get looks, especially for a young player.

Lewis seems to be pressing. Matt Jones breakout has usurped any chance Lewis had to emerge as one of the main targets in this offense. It's too bad, because Lewis has shown the blocking skills to be an everydown TE, and his ability to make guys miss after the catch has been excellent. He's the kind of guy who could fulfill his potential on his second team, but his role in J-ville seems like it'll stay modest for now.

I've been wondering the same thing. I remember thinking of the great potential in that class at the TE position with guys like Marcedes Lewis, Vernon Davis, and Leonard Pope.

Bottom line is he's played terribly. Wide open catches through his fingers and/or off his chest more times than I can count. It's gotta look even worse for him given the recent turnaround of Matt Jones' play, who was the prior long term dog house resident in Jax.

Never really understood this logic. Going off on a bit of a tangent, my apologies, but you hear this all the time. Player isn't staying focused, isn't getting involved int he game etcetcetc. Like a randy moss or TO for instance. Gotta get them involved early of they lose their focus. These guys get paid millions of dollars to play a GAME. They should be focused all game, every practice, etcetcetc. Now I know they're human, and are prone to all the human tendencies, but come on. You play a damn game. If you don't have a single catch for 3 quarters of a game, you suddenly run poor routes in the 4th? Drop balls?!? That is inexcusable, and it is terrible that we accept this behavior from these players based on the fact that they didn't get involved enough in the game early enough. Just terrible...

ooookkaay. So I guess your mr. 8 hours of focus at work right. Why do people think just because you make alot of money to do something you all of a sudden turn into a robot. NO eat. NO sleep. Just work. Everybody loses focus from time to time from inactivity. From kindergarden class to professional sports.

Fair enough. It's not so much the money, its just the fact that its a damn game they play. It aint rocket science. They aren't soldiers in a war, being mentally fatigued by the fact that people are trying to kill them, etc...

I like Mercedes. I wish I had a roster spot for him
I have to make a spot for him with Winslow being suspended.I wish I had stones the size of Winslows and would just be able to drop KW all together.
 Exact same boat here. for all we know, Lewis might outscore KW going forward. But yeah, how do you drop "The Soldier?"
No value added here whatsoever, but reminds me of an old Janis Joplin song:Oh lord, wont you buy me a mercedes benz lewis?

My friends all drive porsches own witten, I must make amends.

Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,

So lord, wont you buy me a mercedes benz lewis?

I have been a little disappointed in that I thought he would do a bit better, but I drafted him way late to start 1 good SOS game on Tony G's bye week, so the 3-64-1TD actually meant something to my team. That said, I just don't hold out hope that he will useful for trading, etc. Not much you can do with 0-3 catches a week.

Searched for but didn’t see an official thread for Marcedes. He’s still here though… 18 years later. Outlasting the likes of Tony G and Witten for most years at TE. That’s something.

Your post has be to a record - or close to it - for elapsed time between posts in a given thread.

Almost 15 years - yikes. I think Lehman Brothers collapsed just before the previous post.

Hasn't Lewis been more or less an Offensive Lineman for the last couple of years?

Will help the Offensive Tackles seal the edge, and make the Bears more versatile in 12 personnel packages.

This completes the Bears TE room, and frees up the newly extended Kmet somewhat. Lewis, the proficient blocker, Kmet the solid 2-way guy, and Tonyan more the receiver.

Luke Getsy worked with both Lewis and Tonyan in Green Bay. There's probably some positive that comes out of that.

I like it for Fields. For sure he's going to throw more, but he's still going to run for days.

Put it on my stone. I was just surprised that he’s been in the league so many years already. Time flies…

Yes, to your question. He's been brought in for a veteran presence in the locker room and as a TE coach.

What's he trying to prove? That he can be irrelevant for 18 out of 19 years instead of just 17 out of 18?

Always a great WW pickup for that week you are in complete desparation for a bye week fill-in or due to an injury. You can start him with confidence of picking up 2 to 3 points 25 percent of the time.
