After listening to the McKee link (I don't know who she is), I get the feeling Mr CIA didn't mean to compare her to Patti Smith.

Just tripped over Maria McKee covering Patti Smith - Free Money ... Point for Patti for being first.

Still, Marie blazed trailsl that Patti could not sniff. ... and her pop material was better, magnitudely speaking.

loved maria. i was too young to catch Lone Justice lie but i did catch her solo a few times in the 90's. she's terrific but doesn't have the artistic bona fides of patti.

better might be maria vs syd straw or sam phillips.

Maria was incredibly hot back in the day- check out some old LJ videos. Patti not so much.

Patti is far more influential but personally I prefer, for listening enjoyment, Maria's solid mixture of country, blues, and rock, and her excellent vocals.
