Mario Williams (1 Viewer)

Mario Williams is questionable with a groin shoulder injury suffered in the Raider game. Didn't practice Wed or Thur. Limited participation today.

Any homers have a feel for the likelihood that he plays or misses the game Sunday?

Thanks

Mario returns: Defensive end Mario Williams was back at practice Friday morning after missing the previous two days of work due to a bruised shoulder. The team leader in sacks suffered the injury Sunday during the victory over the Raiders.

Today, Williams came back and worked, but there's still a question of whether or not he'll suit up on Sunday in Arizona.

"He practiced and was a little tender but we got some good work out of him," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "I'd say he's a game time decision. We'll get him up Sunday morning and work him out and see where he's at. But we think he has a good chance."

:)

Thanks for correcting me on the injury Jene. That's what I get for trusting the rotoworld blurb without checking the original source. I was at a high school football game when I made the post and wasn't really able to fact find as much as I typically would. Still should have known better.

On a positive note, you backed me away from the ledge on Mario. Was thinking I was gonna have to run out and pick up yet another replacement this week.

He will play. He played the rest of the game last week after injuring it. I think he was kept out during the week because of soreness and as a precaution.

Apparently played Sunday, but a zero stat line. Limited practice on Wednesday.

Any homers have a feel for his status this weekend vs Cincy? Is he likely to play and if so, do you expect he'll be healthy enough to perform close to his usual standard?

wow I started wilkerson over him last week :) but traded him for another mlb and ogunleye so i need super mario back any news on him for thursday?

hes fine, he'll play. They just keep him out for soreness as a precaution. He played last week, and got pressure. Warner just got rid of the ball quickly and they run very little. They play a much more balanced offense in the Bengals this week, so I would expect him to get better stats. He has gotten pressure this year, I think the secondary is just not holding coverage quite long enough for him to finish the sack, that and alot of teams are going with short routes and dumpoffs to combat Houston's new love for blitzing linebackers. I wouldnt worry about the shoulder, Kubiak hasnt seemed too considered publicly and he did play last week while being on the injury report for the same reason.

Any thoughts on Mario moving forward? Was he still affected by the injury this past week (2 tackles, 1 assist against a so-so Bengal OL)?

It doesnt look like the shoulder is bothering him watching him, hes just getting to the QB a step late when he throws it. Alot of it is scheme based I think, the opposing QBs are getting rid of the ball very quickly on short routes because the linebackers are blitzing alot leaving someone in short single coverage. Mario has been excellent in run support, but the sacks could be worrisome. Still early to tell.

From these eyes it looks like shoulder has hindered his pass rush the past two weeks. He just doesn't look like the Mario we're used to seeing right now. :goodposting:

Mario still ailing

Defensive end Mario Williams has been playing with an injured shoulder.

He's missed practice or has been limited in practice the past two weeks.

“He's close, but I hate to put a number on it,” coach Gary Kubiak said when asked if Williams is close to 100 percent. “I just know that it's been bothering him, and it can be an any-given-day deal.

“One day it'll bother him pretty good, flare up on him. Next day, he's OK.

“We're keeping him out of contact in practice. He's playing hurt for his team right now, but if he can continue to get through these games OK, he'll be fine.”
