Marion Barber III (1 Viewer)

I think Marion Barber is being overlooked a little bit in the fantasy world. He's only 28 years old and was plagued by injuries in 2010. I think MB3 will be rejuvenated in 2011 by landing on a new team that covets his services. He could put up a near 1000 yard, 10 TD season if he lands on the right team. Barber still has young legs at age 28! He has only had three seasons with 200+ carries.

More and more rumors are surfacing about MIA being interested in Barber. If that happens (mark this down), Barber will be the lead RB in MIA for 2011....NOT Daniel Thomas. Daniel Thomas is raw and is still learning the position. Barber would fit in well in MIA, he knows how to play the position, and he still has young legs!

Am I onto something or on something?

Overrated back who's never been a great runner. He'd be much better in a RBBC role where he can get the ball inside the 20's and run out the clock at the end of games. He fell off sharply at age 25 and I see nothing that merits him not continuing to decline skill wise (even if he has a fluke great year on a new team). He has never been a burner and although he hasn't gotten many carries at the NFL level (he had a ton in college), he's seeked out so much contact that it's taken its toll on his body.

Age 22: 3.9 YPC

Age 23: 4.8 YPC

Age 24: 4.8 YPC

Age 25: 3.7 YPC [2008 Season]

Age 26: 4.4 YPC [2009 Season]

Age 27: 3.3 YPC [2010 Season]

For comparison, Felix Jones had YPCs of 8.9 in 2008, 5.9 in 2009, and 4.3 in 2010. Tashard Choice himself had 5.1 in 2008, 5.5 in 2009, and 3.7 in 2010.

Chris Wesseling was guessing STL to backup SJax a few weeks back on Rotoworld. He's not beating anyone out at this point, but could be an okay vet backup to a team that doesn't want to risk giving that role to a UFA or untested player.

Chi and Stl seem to make sense.

MIA could if Ricky/Ronnie aren't brought back...

What about a place like BAL (if no McGahee)?

Or even Denver?

I think this would be a smart move on both parties parts. He has similar skills to S-Jax, so they would not need to overhaul the gameplan is S-Jax were to go down (or even need a breather) and it would give STL time to groom S-Jax's eventual replacement.

Cinny or Wash would be interesting

I don't think the fins are interested, MBIII might be a back plan if Brown is re-signed.

I've never been a big Barber fan honestly, so I'm not a homer just trying to pimp a guy I like by starting a thread....I just see an opportunity to take a chance on a guy people seemed to have forgoten....and he's going to cost next to nothing to obtain. The guy just turned 28 years old and still have some left in the tank. There have been other RB's to bounce back after a down caused by injury....especially with a change in teams. I think Barber will be motivated to get back to producing respectable numbers.

It would make some sense becuase Marion Barber has always been a GREAT blocker. Although fantasy wise I'd be surprised if he's anything to ever write home about again, he could make a solid backup especially to a team looking to protect a young QB in passing situations.
