Marion Barber & Julius Jones Contract Status? (1 Viewer)

In the tail end of the game just now, Collinsworth mentioned that Barber and Jones are both in contract years.

I had thought they were each still signed for a pittance through 2009, based on salaries posted at NFLPA.org.

Marion Barber

Julius Jones

Do they have some sort of voidable years or something?

Or is NFLPA.org just not accurate?

(I'd always uses their player search to find what I thought to be official contract status.)

Don't know about their time in Dallas, but any coach who has Barber on the bench half the game should be fired immediately. What a joke. If I'm a Cowboys fan, I'm livid.

Above is correct. Barber RFA. Jones UFA/later days guy.

It's been 2 coaching staffs that have given Jones the starting job. That's what is troubling. I'd like to know ANYTHING that Jones does better

Jones has been so mediocre this year, he might be cheap enough to bring back. (I'll assume he'll get 2-3 million/year to compete somewhere. Regardless of price for him, I wouldn't even consider him as far as Dallas is concerned).

This is is one more of perception versus real usuage (tonight at least). If Barber "started" and got the same 22 carries versus 9 or 10 carries that Jones got we would never hear a word about how Dallas uses the players.

I know I hate it when my team is a conference-leading, division-winning, 13-2 with the 2nd best total offense in the league behind only the record shattering team in the other conference going in to the last week of the season. Man, those coaches are idiots. I would be LIVID.

 :goodposting: The coaching staff should be fired today! Where's Gailey?!?!

Any word on a contract for Barber? Will he end up getting the 1st and 3rd tender? For a back with his production, it seems strange there hasn't been more chatter about this situation.

I'd be shocked if he got less than the 1st and 3rd tender. If Turner got it last year, I see no reason why Barber wouldn't either.
Barber did get a 1st and 3rd tender - about 2.6M. A long term contract was being worked on during the combine per both Jerry Jones and Barber's agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Do you have a link for this? I know there was talk of Dallas planning on using the 1st and 3rd tender but I had not heard anything official.

Dallas is expected to extend restricted free agent Marion Barber a first-round tender, not the first- and third-round tender.

The deadline to tender RFAs is Thursday. He'll be more attractive as an offer sheet signing with only the lower tag. However, first-round picks are like gold in the NFL and it'd still be a surprise if Barber signs elsewhere. The first-round tender costs $2.017 million; the highest $2.562 million.

A first round tender would be interesting. One rumor site I was reading yesterday said that Jeff Fisher said if Barber is signed to a first and third tender he will be a Titan. If it is only for a first it will be interesting to see if a team snags him.

They are pretty much inviting another team to take him by tendering him with the lower tag. I'd be surprised if a couple of teams don't make a run at him and those McFadden to Dallas rumours may be on the money.

hmm...

I am a big Barber fan but like most question whether he could carry the majority of the load on his own.

gettign a decent 1st round pick would be great ..... but not if we are planning on trading two of them for McFadden , who I dont think is going to be special.

I would rather address the needs at DB , WR , and RB...rather than just two.

Sirius NFL Radio "2 Minute Warning" just said it would likely be the 1st round tender. It sounds like they're just daring someone to offer him a contract. Jerry's up to something. :D

I would tend to agree. Dallas would probably love to keep him, but also wants to entice some teams without scaring them off. Could then possibly wind up with three #1s and in a position to get McFadden (or possibly Turner) as a suitable replacement.

My personal opinion: Getting a 1 for Barber and signing Turner would be a steal.

Barber given highest tender.

The Cowboys placed the highest tender possible ($2.562 million) on restricted free agent Marion Barber.

Interested teams would have to give up a first- and third-round pick if they signed Barber to an offer sheet Dallas couldn't match. This makes a lot more sense than an earlier report that said MBIII would only get a first-round tender. This should prevent Barber from getting signed elsewhere. Look for Dallas to work towards a long-term agreement as they also look to add another back.
