Marion Barber @ Pitt (1 Viewer)

I have MBIII in three leagues and am benching him in two, due to the fact I have some good options and I have bye weeks where the only thing on the line is the opportunity to pick my semifinals opponent. In my other one it's do or die and I'm unsure what to do. He's an ultra-stud, no doubt about it. But he's a little dinged up and playing a tough defense. Not a WDIS, but just wonder what everyone is doing and who you are benching him for, or starting him over. Right now I'm leaning toward starting him with R. Brown and S. Jax and benching Hightower.

I think you need to see how he does in practice this today and tomorrow. If he puts in a full practice tomorrow, I'm probably going to roll with him. If not, I'm going to go with Reggie Bush (in a non-PPR) instead.

I'd go Bush without question in this one. Although it's non-PPR, he's at home in the dome. That's worth a decent bump in Bush's upside, which is far greater than Barber's upside. Go with Bush.

Whatever happened to "Never Bench Your Studs" - or do people actually think that Barber isn't a stud?

LOW RB2 this week... It would be easier to trust him if he wasn't hurt.

Guess what, it doesn't get much easier with the Ravens and Giants coming up. ;) for MBIII owners

Agreed - guy is a stud but I would like to see how he does this week and how the Boys offense looks against a really, really tough D. If it looks good and he does alright, I may give him the nod in the semis. I just think the guy -if healthy - gets enough touches that he is a good start no matter what. He has proven his worth in my PPR league - as he generally gets 5+ receptions a game.

I think people are just conceding that...A) Barber is on the road against probably the best defense in the league.B) He's got a dislocated toe that may or may not effect his running.C) There's always a chance he reinjures the toe and doesn't even finish the game.I am sitting him for Reggie Bush in a non-PPR league. And yes... I still think MB3 is a stud.

I think the weather will put more of a focus on MB3. This is a must win for Dallas, so I think they feed him the ball.

He is a high RB2 for me, just based on matchup.

Weather can help in some cases, but consider that Barber has been held under 4.0 YPC in all but 2 games this year. With that in mind, the Big Ben injury, and the crap field, I'm guessing this game will be in the 10-7 neighborhood. In other words, there may be 20+ carries for Dallas RBs, but that might result in 7-10 total points for the entire Dallas offense.

I'm going with T Jones and Gore over him. If it weren't for the toe, I'd probably go Barber and T Jones. That toe is just the wildcard.

I can't predict a big game from him. He is likely to have 40-60 yards and no scores. Might catch some dump offs for PPR leagues.

you just couldnt resist. :stalker: i would never bench my studs, MB3 included, unless there are INJURY CONCERNS. if MB3 is 100% i wouldnt even question starting him vs. the steelers.

switz is a ____________________________!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I can think of so many things to fill in the blank.None are very niceJust go awayPLEASE

Coach Phillips just said he was doubtful to play.
as an owner with a 1st round bye this is :hifive: :suds:   get healthy for the Ravens big guyI think Dallas would have/will rely on the pass in this game anyway....

MBIII is officially out of my top 40 RBs this week.
Off topic - Does Romo get a boost now? Even more passing.
I wouldn't get too excited, even though there might be more passing attempts, the Steelers can focus more on pass D now, so I think they cancel each other out - also as gritty as Choice is, he's still a rookie and he'll likely be the last line of defense protecting Romo more often than not on 3rd down, which ain't a good thing.

I can start 3 of LBJ, Bush, Jacobs, and MBIII and as much as it pains me, I'm having to sit MBIII this week. I just think with that toe being a big ??? and facing a brutal defense, I think I'm forced to sit him this week. Hope I choose well!

I traded him two weeks ago, and advised others here to do the same, for which I got severly ripped.

Even if he was healthy, Barber is too much of a risk for the FF playoffs. Steelers this week, Giants next week. If you win, it won't be because of Marion. He's been a great FF RB this year, but not for the playoffs.

The quote I read said Phillips said he was "more doubtful".Big difference.
Headlines Cowboys increasingly concerned about MBIII Coach Wade Phillips changed his tune about Marion Barber's (toe) status for Week 14 on Thursday, calling MBIII "more doubtful" to play at Pittsburgh after missing his second straight practice. The Cowboys say more will be known about Barber when (and if) he practices on Friday, but Tashard Choice's chances of starting are growing. Phillips said earlier in the week that MBIII could play on no practice, but in such a difficult matchup it's time to consider other options. The Steelers rank first in the NFL in run defense and have yielded only five rushing TDs all year. Dec. 4 - 4:56 pm etSource: NFL.com

I am in the enviable position of having both MBIII and Portis. Luckily I have Forte too. My only other options to replace either MBIII or Portis (one would be a flex) are Brandon Jackson, Cedric Benson, Mark Bradley, and Davone Bess. I was hoping Jackson would be the answer but it looks like Grant is healthy enough to get the start . Benson is intriguing because of the matchup but still a huge risk. I see the two wideouts as being pretty risky too. I am leaning towards just starting both studs and hoping at least one produces. Any thoughts?

It was something like "we expected Marion to play but ...umm now.... ummm...he's more doubtful."Phillips was struggling to find the right way to word it so to "pick it apart" now(doubtdul vs more doubtful) doesn't seem like the right move.

Thank Christ I have Addai to fall back on. That guy has been straight cash money this year, worth so much more than the top 5 draft pick it took to get him. I put him in the lineup and don't look back......

If he didn't have a bad wheel, i wouldn't let the matchup affect my decision to start him. But matchup + injury = stud on benchStarting Hillis and Addai over him

If Barber does suit up, do I play it safe and stick with Maurice Jones-Drew in PPR? I have D. Williams playing on Monday night. Choice and McFadden are obviously on my bench.

You are crazy to start a less than 100% Marion Barber against this Defense. This Def has only given up 10 points or less in 4 out of the last 5 games, has a better run D than pass D, and has nor allowed a 100 yard rusher all season! So you are basically looking at a RB who has little chance of scoring a TD and has little chance of gaining a 100 yards. Look at the great Giants running game, they shut that down. Jacobs only had 40 some yards all game with no TDs. So what can you expect out of a hurt Barber???? Maybe 50 yards and a touchdown at BEST! He had a hard time putting up 50 yards against San Fran. What's that, 11 points? I don't think so, I would go with any other option.

Not to mention this new news:

*** Thursday Update *** RB Marion Barber (DAL) did not practice on Thursday. HC Wade Phillips commented on Thursday that Marion Barber is looking more doubtful to play in the team's Week 14 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Phillips went on to say that Barber will be evaluated during Friday's practice and that the running back's status for the game could be a game-time decision.

Well, the dreaded GTD screams sit him to me. I guess I'm probably in a different boat than some of you as my lineup has to be in by 1:00. I can't even fall back on Tashard. :wall:
