Marion Barber (1 Viewer)

Garts

Is it time to maximize Barber's value before it may be too late?? Injuries are starting slowly...he plays a totally ferocious style runnign every carry like it's his last.

I always though he was better as a support type who get a max 225 carries....and that could happen next year.

Is it time to move him with Choice heating up and Felix hovering??

Or should we be happy to own him and ride him out through his prime?

I see MBIII going back to the role he had before this season. Still think he can be a 12-14 TD RB but the yardage may be a little down.

I'm honestly not that concerned about the injury thing...If it were a big toe issue I'd be more worried. The guy is 25.

the backs behind him can play, and may steal a few carries, but Felix may never be able to stay healthy and Choice isn't gonna get a whole lot of 'change of pace' carries because he's a pretty similar back.

they'll definitely spell him when he needs a breather but I see this negative difference in carries per game being offset by the positive difference in (most likely) not having to play a stretch of games with Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger at QB. It also should make him last longer.

I think the guy has a floor of a borderline RB1 barring something unforseen happening

If anything it's time to hit up his owner to see if they're nervous. At WORST Barber = Brandon Jacobs with receptions. Still in his prime, still a stud, it just happens that Dallas drafted very well at RB this year.

Bad time to sell as his value is lower than ever.

Plus, even though Choice has played ok, the Cowboys recent poor play has been when Barber was injured.

Bingo. Barber will likely be the lead dog in a 3headed monster next year. He'll likely return to his closer and short yardage roll that he's been in prior to this season. Oh, he'll nominally start. But Felix and Choice will likely see a lot more snaps next season now that they've had a year in the system and a year in the strength program.

I'm holding Barber and plan to try to hit up the Felix Jones owner over the offseason. I tried to get Felix earlier in the year and he was unobtainable; hopefully Choice's success has impacted his valuation of Jones.

Dynasty-wise:

Between Barber & Choice, who is the better long term prospect? Barber could have a short career due to his running style. I own Choice, is it worth trading for Barber assuming the owner is nervous about the dallas RB situation?

I would personally hold onto Barber. He is a proven commodity, has a nose for the goal line and will continue to produce. I would however expect a small dip in his average carries/start though.

I see Barber as the main guy especially late in the game. My main concern is if the coaching staff decides to use Chose and Jones early and use Barber to finish teams off once they are up.

If you get a good deal, sure. but you still have Felix Jones to contend with.I drafted Barber as a rookie in a dynasty league (19th overall pick, to toot my own horn), and have been fending off offers for years. I wouldn't be trading him this off-season. I drafted Choice this year, so I have both Barber & Choice. Felix would be nice to have, too.

gads everyone goes bonkers because Choice did well in 3 games ..... now is the time to sell Choice, and buy Barber IMO. I own Barber and I'd sell but the price is as high as it ever has been. He's a stud RB, great catching passes, gets the tough yards, goal line back ..... Felix is nice, Choice is nice, Barber is the stud RB that few teams have on their rosters

If the Barber owner would trade him for Choice he should be kicked out of league.will he trade Andre Johnson for Kevin walter too?

I think he meant is it worth trading for Barber because he has Choice and can secure 2 of the 3 Dallas RBs, not that he was going to try and trade Choice for Barber straight up.

I see this shaping up next year like what the Giants have now with 3 RB's all with value of varying degrees. MB3 is Jacobs, Choice is Ward, and Felix is Bradshaw. MB3 was money till he got hurt and chance had him run up against the best defenses in the league to end the regular season plus his first injury. Hopefully the focus on power rushing next year feeds the passing game and gets them to be more consistent overall.

Not really... don't let fantasy production blind you to reality. This year Barber hasn't been that great running the ball, which is the running back's role. He's been great as a pass catcher, but that's not a running backs role. Choice and Jones were both better runners. It's hard to really say what's what with Choice, because he had fresh legs late in the season. Who knows how he'd look with Barber's workload. Barber is a tough runner, who excelled in limited carries, but wore down when he was asked to carry the load.Barber and Choice will split carries next season, Barber probably getting more late in the game. Jones quite likely will see the heaviest individual workload. I can see Felix getting 10-12 touches no matter what happens. Choice and Barber will fluctuate, both getting 6-10. I wouldn't be shocked to see them trade Barber in the offseason, despite his salary.

So Barber has a $50 million contract to perhaps get 6-10 carries? I think we heard this nonsense over last offseason too. :)

In my PPR League, Barber was RB3-RB6 until the injury. He fell to just outside the top-10 after last week.

Not to get too off-topic but here is how my 10-team PPR money league drafted in the first round. Standard scoring with 1 pt. per Reception.

1) Ladainian Tomlinson

2) Brian Westbrook

3) Adrian Peterson

4) Steven Jackson

5) Joseph Addai

6) Marion Barber (my team)

7) Clinton Portis

8) Tom Brady

9) Randy Moss

10) Terrell Owens

The Top-10 Overall at the end of the season

1) Drew Brees (3rd Round)

2) Aaron Rodgers (11th Round!)

3) Jay Cutler (10th Round!)

4) Phillip Rivers (12th Round!)

5) Kurt Warner (13th Round!)

6) Peyton Manning (1st Round)

7) Matt Cassel (Undrafted!)

8) Matt Forte (8th Round)

9) Andre Johnson (3rd Round)

10) DeAngelo Williams (8th Round)

and

The Top-10 RBs

Matt Forte = RB1 (8th Round)

DeAngelo Williams = RB2 (9th Round)

Maurice Jones-Drew = RB3 (3rd Round)

Thomas Jones = RB4 (5th Round)

Brian Westbrook = RB5 (1st Round)

Michael Turner = RB6 (5th Round)

Adrian Peterson = RB7 (1st Round)

Steve Slaton = RB8 (16th round!)

Ladanian Tomlinson = RB9 (1st Round)

Chris Johnson = RB10 (8th round)

.

.

Marion Barber = RB13

In this league (I've been running for 7 years) Matt Forte ended the season with 282 points. Barber ended up with 222. He was 60 points off. That's with essentially missing the last 3 games and half of the Seattle game on thanksgiving. If you take out those 4 games, he was averaging roughly 20 points a game. Had he maintained his average the last 4 games, he would have been the RB1 in my league. Now compared to the past couple of years, it's been a down year for fantasy-RBs IMO and there's NO WAY we see that many QBs finish in the top-10 overall (4 pts. for passing TDs, 1 pt. for every 20 yds passing in my league). Point being, Sigmund and Cecil make a great point with how we'll be drafting next year. You're going to grab a RB in the 1st round, and then go for the boom-or-bust mid-tier RBs in the middle rounds. I think people are going to be afraid like they were this year, and Barber will present EXCELLENT value for someone who drafts mid-late in the first round. He's a bonafide stud who will get all the touches that matter. Barring injury, his floor is TOP5. His ceiling is RB1. Plus he'll catch 4+ a game, and that's his floor. Who can forget his 11/128 performance against the Cardinals? I think a lot of people will sleep on him next season like they did this year.

I'm not a draft expert like most people on here but how many seasons have rookie RBs made the impact in fantasy that they made this year? I just don't see that happening next year. The 1st round will be interesting next year!

 Reminds me of last season with everyone going bonkers about Ahmad Bradshaw taking over in NY.

I think the performances by Choice are not getting the respect that they should. I agree that he has had "fresh legs", but his three consecutive outstanding weeks have come against extremely talented defenses in games that were critical to both teams.

In weeks 14-16, Choice had the following:

Wk 14 @ Pitt 23 rushes for 88 yds 0 tds 3.8 ypc and 5 catches for 78 yds 17 fantasy points (22 ppr)

Wk 15 vs NYG 9 rushes for 91 yds 1 td 10.1 ypc and 4 catches for 52 yds 20 fantasy points (24 ppr)

Wk 16 vs BLT 17 rushes for 90 yds 1 td 5.3 ypc and 7 catches for 25 yds 18 fantasy points (25 ppr)

And against the #2, #9, and #3 defenses against the rush and the #2, #9, and #1 defenses for RB fantasy scoring.
