Mark Clayton (1 Viewer)

Ok, full disclosure, I like Clayton, loved him at OU, loved him at the combine (god bless the NFL Network :) , ### #### Time Warner :hot: ) and just traded for him in a pretty low-level player-for-player swap.

What do folks think of his prospects this year in BAL? I saw him look real sharp in the preseason. And can't help think that the BAL total defensive dominance in the first two games is causing their passing game to be somewhat neglected.

They certainly will not be killing everyone all year, and McNair is going to have a handful of 300+ yard games this year. And probably a lot more 250-275 games than BAL is used to.

Can any homers chime in on who the passing game is looking under McNair. As far as McNair's reads, overall targets, etc?

Is Heap still the #1 target, followed by Mason & Clayton? If so, Clayton have any chance to supplant Mason? What positions are they each playing in Billick's offense, etc?

Clayton will get his but it will be it or miss it seems. The Ravens offense really doesn't seem to have much going, consistency-wise, yet anyway, but it hasn't mattered. You wouldn't know it from all the love McNair's been getting around here. He certainly does spread the ball around... Clarence Moore's gotten as many targets as Clayton has if not more, but Heap still seems to be the favorite. I'll wait and see what happens when the Ravens get into a game where they're not off to an early double-digit lead. For now I call Clayton a decent WR4.

I'm very disapointed in Clayton right now. You asked about targets and Mcnair right now only has eyes for Mason and Heap. I did not see week one but last week McNair threw to Clarence Moore in the endzone a few times and Clayton saw only 3 balls thrown his way.I picked up Clayton last year and actually started him over Deion Branch the last two weeks of the season but I actually think he is one guy Mcnair coming aboard might hurt since Mcnair is so comfortable throwing to Mason. Things could improve. They've not had to play from behind yet and they are little frustrated with the offense right now so they might work to incorporate Clayton into the game more but it's difficult for me to see the #3 option in Baltimores offense being overly productive especially with that defense playing the way it is.

Where were you last night when I proposed this trade!! :Pjk Thanks, that's the kind of input I was looking for. I know the common perception/thinking is that Mcnair Hearts Mason, but I wasn't sure if that was 100% coming to play in Baltimore. In a way, as you mention, its good that they are frustratead with the offense, so maybe they will try to get the (hopefully potential) playmaker, i.e. Clayton, more involved, and relegate Mason to posession guy. One can hope. :)

I too had high aspirations for Mark Clayton this year, only to see him come up with next to nothing in the first two weeks. The problem, as we all know, isn't with Mark Clayton, but the lack of a passing attack for Baltimore.

The Ravens have yet to be challenged or forced to pass the ball. McNair has only completed 17 and 16 passes in his first two games, respectively. More importantly, Mcnair is only averaging 9.8 yards per completion; lower then almost every starting QB in the league. I think Clayton will be fine, once Mcnair gets in sync with the offense, and Baltimore is actually forced to throw in a game. If i was targeting Mark Clayton, i would wait till after this week in Cleveland and scoop him up from a frustrated owner.
