Mark Clayton (1 Viewer)

On the game winning drive vs. Cleveland he was great. Catching clutch passes over the middle and to the outside it looked like him and McNair had some chemistry. Just as important, McNair really trusted the kid.

He's got ridiculous potential, when does he reach an elite level?

Not if he's using his Valtrex, jk.

Yes, IMO he has immense potential and was a breakout candidate at the beginning of the year, especially with the change at QB. That is still a distinct possibility.

short answer, yes.

long answer, yeeeeeeesssssssss.

Edit to add: Billick said they are getting him more involved in the offense. He's a very dangerous receiver after the catch, on top of having impeccable core WR skills. His time is coming.

I think he is a spotty starter at best this year (there will be ups and downs based on the offense).

BUT, take advantage of it this year to acquire him in dynasty. He has Marvin Harrison-type potential IMO.

I watched last weeks game with a keen eye as I had just acquired Mark Clayton via trade and started him due to byes. It def. looked like a 1a & 1b situation with him & Mason. Claytong got a ton of looks early, then Mason got the bulk in the middle, but at the end, Clayton was looked to quite a bit.

I think this season he's a WR3 bye week fill-in, no one you want to count on. But I do think as the season progresses, there is a chance he could emerge as the top WR, and he could possibly put up #s similar to Micheal Clayton's rookie year downt he stretch.

A lot of course depends on Mason't health & the BAL QB situation.

I actually think an injury to McNair upgrades Clayton - Boller doesnt have the telepathy that Mason has with McNair, and his deep arm is still intact (as opposed to McNair's) - giving Clayton more chances to make big plays downfield.

Mark Clayton has a ton of talent, no doubt; however I am inclined to agree with King of the Jungle that I don't think this is the year he 'breaks out'.

McNair has not looked spectacular in the Ravens offense; and, let's face it, the Clayton is still the 3rd receiving option behind Mason and Heap, if he's healthy, which is rare. So, at best, he's the second option. However, the Ravens aren't scaring anyone on the ground, and Mason isn't elite enough to double-cover constantly.

Clayton was matched up with a Browns corner back who is taking suckitude to a new level, he's name is escaping me at the moment, but the dude is Mike Rumph bad.

Bottom line, I would temper my enthusiasm.

Have you SEEN Boller play? That guy doesnt help ANYone. If the team can't get past the 50 yard line (and it won't with Boller as we have seen all too often), then no one benefits.

I have seen Boller play, and play well. I thought he was prgressing nicely at the end of last season. He is not elite, but certainly capable.

Clayton had a big game because he was matched up with an awful Browns CB (Daven Holly). Until the Browns get Gary Baxter back, any WR with any talent whatsoever matched up with either Holly or Ralph Brown will have big games (as has happened for all 3 games this year).

Wait until next week. If he has another big game then maybe he's on the upswing. I wouldn't count on it yet though.

McNair threw the first several passes his way. Interesting thing happened.

Clayton dropped a SURE touchdown catch. It would have been a 25-30 yard variety. He had gotten inside the corner and beat the S to the point of the ball. The S had no angle. Think Post Pattern with the CB beaten and the S making the wrong read. Run. Catch. Run. TD. Perfect playcall. Perfect pattern. Perfectly thrown. Hit Clayton in stride but...

He clapped and dropped the ball. :wall:

McNair did not look at or for him for a L-O-N-G time afterwards. QB are funny like that with a WR that drops a ball or two especially a gimmie TD.

Conversely, Clayton made two  catches on the last drive of the game. The kid redeemed himself and McNair started throwing him the ball again in crunch time. Funny how that happens.

Redraft for this year...spot starter for the time being.

Dynasty...hopefully, you bought low offseason or in the last 2 weeks.

:lmao: As a Bengals fan, I'd love to see Boller back under center.

WR. Ma. Clayton Becoming Go-To-Guy For QB McNairEdward Lee, Baltimore Sun - [Full Article]Baltimore Ravens WR Mark Clayton had a quiet day statistically, but was once again QB Steve McNair's go-to-guy on Baltimore's game winning drive. Clayton nabbed two passes for 30 yards to help set up TE Todd Heap's game winning touchdown catch yesterday against the Chargers.
Good to hear the chemistry is developing.
