Mark Cuban Says NFL Implosion within 10 Years (1 Viewer)

He did make a few good points on the Dan Patrick show this morning. He did back down from the 10 year implosion.

Meh. It could go the way of baseball and basket ball. All excited opening week then meh till the playoffs.

maybe not 10 years, but football has the potention for all of these little things to eventually just build up and piss everyone off

NFL > MLB/NHL/College BBall, Etc. (In no particular order) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NBA

The real question we should be asking is if the popularity of fantasy football will continue. It's not a coincidence the stratospheric rise of the nfl has coincided with the fantasy football boom. People aren't watching Thursday night football because of all the amazing marketing efforts off the NFL. Goodell and the owners should be careful not to confuse brains with a bull market. With that being said, they should milk it for everything they can. Their product is hot but it won't last forever. Cuban is right not because the NFL is going to destroy itself but because eventually the casual fan will lose interest in fantasy football.

If the NFL wanted guarantee they'd stay on the forefont for awhile, they'd be lobbying to legalize sports gaming in more states than Nevada. Eventually, the popularity of FFA will wane

I have long said that boxing sucks because the best heavyweight are playing d line and the best middleweights are playing corner. Why get hit in the face when you can do something else for comparable money? 10 years is too small a window but he is on to something. Parental safety concerns will push more kids to playing basketball over time.

no it want it just keeps growing yearly
hence the word "eventually"

The growth of fanasaty football was what he talked about today. How long before something else comes along to replace it.

Not sure about 10 years but overall his point is valid. I know that I personally have lost interest in fantasy football and that has caused me to lose interest in the league as a whole. I still follow my favorite team but I'm not watching bills vs titans on Thursday nights anymore. Goodells constant tinkering with the game sure as hell ain't helping either. I can see a day when it won't be must see tv for me anymore.

just know you are in the extreme minority. Ratings and ff are at an all time high and continue to grow every year.

Replace it in regards to what? within the NFL or another league?
He was going down the track of how long would the attention span of people in general last before the next thing came along. He really had nothing in mind other then something else always comes along. He was also going on about injuries and how long before kids quit playing. That's why he backed off of the 10 year thing. He wasn't blaming the NFL for going all in right now while on top, just once on top there is only one place left to go and that was down

We're posting on a "non-football forum" of a fantasy football message board...which means that most of us were probably at the forefront of the fantasy curve. I know when I first found this site (2000), I was pretty hardcore about fantasy football for a good 7 years. And I mean hardcore. Now, I still play in 4 leagues, which is a lot, but my interested has dialed back a lot. I feel like I'm tied to football for 3 nights of the week...which is awesome, but at the same time it eats away at the free time. I'm lucky b/c my kids are still young (3 year old twins), but as they get older, my "football" time will decrease greatly I'd imagine.

Thursday night game is going to kill Fantasy Football. Fantasy Football took off because it was really easy to play on the weekend. Now it's like the grind of fantasy baseball. Trans moves on Wed nite for Thur. Lineup for Thur... Trans on Friday night... Lineup by Sunday am. It's too much work.

Don't know how many people are like me but I would guess the group is growing. I'm in my mid 30's...got kids now. I've played fantasy football for 10+ years now and I just don't give a crap anymore. I imagine a lot more people will get to that point eventually.

Fan duel is on the right track. Weekly games for money will trump season long play.
I think the daily games could maybe help close the gap a little for the NBA.

In leagues, the NFL's big advantage over NBA and MLB is simplicity.

One game a week. Very simple scoring. Every idiot at the office and their wife can play.

But daily games make them all equally simple, with the NBA having the advantage of letting you play every day (until the NFL figures out how to have a game every night).

The twist is that there is no ####### way the NFL lets them move to LA without tossing in 1-1.5 billion into the kitty. LA isn't going to toss in another billion for a free stadium either. Double twist is that the NFL is on decline. Stadium attendances across the league have been down. The game has changed so much that it is, sadly, rather boring most of the time. In their quest to avoid more litigation I can only surmise that the NFL will water the game down more.

I'm already sick of the Thursday night game
Me too. I liked when they started having them around Thanksgiving for what 4-6 weeks or something? Boring as hell now.
Thursday Night Jags/Texans game is annoying,,, I'm happy with the Sunday/Sunday Night/Monday Night...

I agree with the post Thanksgiving games if they're playoff implication games. I don't think anyone cares for a ####ty Thurs Night game.

Noticing the Thursday night game becoming an issue for me as well.

Im down to 2 leagues now and will be starting a bestball type league this year with trades and FA. Just no lineup submissions to see if it helps.

CBS gave the nfl like a trillion dollars (numbers not official) to broadcast the Thursday night games this year. Then they stuck their #1 team on it. And moved their prime Thursday night show to Monday.

Sooooooo......somebody likes them.
