Mark Wimer: Staff Rankings (1 Viewer)

Yes I can respect him for trying to be different....if that is what he is doing, but I have a hard time understanding the following:

1) Dominack Davis: Average Staff Rank 14, Mark Wimer rank 6

DD has had a problem staying healthy in past years and this year is not starting off so great.

2) Steven Jackson: Average Staff Rank 6, Mark Wimer rank 16

?????? Playing from behind a lot could be the only possible explanation I can think of. If health is a worry, then why rank DD at #6?

3) Willis McGahee: Average Staff Rank 13, Mark Wimer Rank 20

How many running backs are in the "Feature Role" where they will recieve 300 + carries. I know Buffalo is bad, but come on.

4) Deshaun Foster: Average Staff Rank 26, Mark Wimer Rank 13

 WOW not too high on Mr. Williams

5) Mr. Williams: Average Staff Rank 36, Mark Wimer Rank (Not in top 57)

I guess Deshaun Stays healthy all year and Williams doesn't see much action. How well did Williams do in college. I know its college but he was great on a poor team. What will he do on a great team.

There are other things that jump out to me in his rankings but these are just plain bad. If these are Mark Wimer's ranking for the end of the season, then thats fair...everyone has their own opinions. I would just like some answers.

I have written extensive replies on these topics during recent days on the board. Please use the board search function and read through the threads.I appreciate your interest and I would be glad to explore any further questions you might have after you read through my posted explanations, and the criticism of the other board members. There are insightful points from a lot of knowledgable posters in these threads.

There are also some articles, spotlights and faceoffs on the Footballguys.com front page that I have written about some of the players I've ranked that are considered outliers, including one general article that will speak to topics like DeAngelo Williams (the first is about rookies and fantasy performance):

Rookies and Redraft Leagues

Antonio Bryant Faceoff

Vernon Davis Faceoff[

Laveranues Coles Faceoff

Enjoy, and have fun!

Also, to debut shortly (I believe Monday) will be our Footballguys.com annual Overvalued/Undervalued staff article, wherein a lot of divergent opinions from across the staff will be explored. Look for it - it's a great article.

Thanks again,

How is Josh Brown the 18th best kicker?

Not attacking your rankings at all, I'd just like to hear your reasoning.

If Foster runs like Thomas Jones did last year (I think he can be just as successful & up until last year, Jones was also known to be injury prone -- part of the reason they took Benson), Williams will be 2006's 'Cedric Benson'.

Too many people have unrealistic expectations about these rookie backs. I'm not surprised, this happens offseason every year.

------------------------------

I don't see anything wrong with the 13 ranking for Foster. July last year, a 13 ranking for Thomas Jones would of gotten the same type thread.

One word - touchdowns. And lots of them. TD = 1 pt. for the kicker.
They scored "lots" of them last year. Why would he get worse?
Brown Career Note that he was the 13th best fantasy PK last year - outside of starter status. Granted, it was only 2 points, but that's the way it is with the vast majority of PK's - they are very tightly bunched once you get outside the top 5 (or so, depending on the year). Which brings me to my next point:

Fantasy FF stats from 2005

8 points seperated #13 from #18 last year - 2 FGs and 2 EPs. My point here is that there isn't much difference between #13 (Brown's rank last year) and #18 (my projection for this year). I see Brown continuing to be outside of starting status in fantasy terms, due to his team's awesome RB/offense, which will limit his team's need to kick field goals. Trying to predict his exact finish is an impossible exercise, but the downward trend to outside fantasy starter levels is there in his yearly rank.

I am an adherent of the maxim that you should draft your kickers very late in your fantasy draft, BTW. I suggest you private message Mike Herman on our staff if you want to discuss PK's in great detail. He is the MAN when it comes to fantasy PK's.

Decent explanation, but I have them projected for more FG attempts, not less than last year. And I think some of the guys you have projected ahead of him don't have any chance of finishing with more points. To each his own I guess.
