I know he's not great but why no ranking love or at least respect for this guy?

Ranked 39th last week - 29th this week - scored in 5 in a row - 6 TD's. Morris isn't playing.

I don't get it.

haven't been following too close, is Morris out? In the 5 weeks he's started he's been double digits each week and he's averaged nearly 15 pts per week which would put him right around 6th RB wise. If Morris is out he's definitely more valuable than his 29th rank...should be around 10th-15th...

Morris was not even a factor when he was healthy....stick a fork in Morris. That injury he had was nasty......and he is brittle to begin with.

I think Maroney has a been a nice value and has run pretty strong.

Nice value? He had an ADP of the 9th/10th RD, he was awesome value.

His history with the Pats has certainly provided reason for skepticism.

Maybe this time it's different.
As Ricky Williams and Benson have shown this season - it can turn around. Many of the things said about Maroney have been said about both of those guys in the past.

Maroney has been a different player lately and I think that the rankings reflect some growing affection for the changes he's made to his running style. Since I edit (and write some of) the Waiver Wire Gems and that helps feed into the rankings I can hazard to guess that he's not ranked as a top-24 RB right now because the Patriots are still primarily a passing offense.

Maroney has the potential to be a top 12 RB in the NFL, but injuries, the Pats offensive style, and a tendency he developed in the pros (that he's just breaking the habit of doing) to try to break the big play with an extra move or attempt to bounce a run to the outside has hurt his production and the offense's ability to stay on a good down and distance schedule.

Since October, Maroney has gradually been more decisive as a runner and he's taking more of the 3-4 yard gains that he often eschewed for minimal gains and losses that resulted from trying to break a big run. What he has also discovered was when he committed to the creases in front of him that looked like he'd only get a 3-4 yard gain, he actually would break a few of them for bigger plays.

I tend to look at the rankings here as a more conservative reflection of what to expect from that player. Ability-wise, Maroney might not be a bad player to acquire in dynasty leagues at what I think could be a bargain price. He's still a risk because the Patriots have no problem using a committee of backs. However, he's a talent and it only takes a Randy Moss or Wes Welker injury for Bill Belicheck and company to revamp the offense to more of a ground attack. When it comes to a combination of youth and skill, Maroney is by far the best runner on that roster.

I am willing to bet you've seen maroney play about 6 games in his career as a pro.
Precisely. I've watched Maroney a ton, both in the past and this season, and he doesn't look like a different player lately.
I disagree. I think he has looked more decisive in hitting the hole. But maybe I'm just seeing things.

:wall: Plus he's soft. :wall:
hes looked good on the GLs. Doesn't Run as hard as Morris when Morris was healthy; but Maroney is the healthiest RB they got. I would sell High to tell you the truth, Pats will surely bring in another RB or Draft one this yr.
ya, but for this week to be ranked 30th when he's got double digit scoring the last 5 weeks, including 2 19 pt efforts, seems low against an ordinary Saints defense. Yes, they aren't a running team per se whatever opportunities they will get he will get the lions share.

This is because Fred Taylor was getting the goal line love. The pecking order was Taylor, Morris....Maroney, with Faulk in on 3rd down. If Morris is back, there is a good chance he goes right back into his short yardage role. He just keeps the chains moving. Maroney has done less dancing as of late, but he seems to have been pre-occupied with breaking the big run over the course of his career. Its hard to see him as anything else.

He's not a guy I could ever trust, because I don't think you can rely on any NE RB

Lost fumbles in the last two games

5 games in a row with TDs is cool, but Morris may be back

Always love TDs but how many points will you get if he doesn't hit paydirt?

If the running game gets shut down, he catches passes about as frequently as Michael Turner

Give him his due, he's on a nice little run, this is the best production he's had since his rookie year in '06

16-123-1, 3-10-0

13-43-1, 0-0-0

20-82-1, 0-0-0

13-31-1, 2-15-0, lost fumble

22-77-2, 0-0-0, lost fumble

I don't have any unresolved RB issues, and I'm pretty sure next year Maroney will again be on my 'do not draft' list

But if you are in a different situation with only a few weeks left to lock up a spot, I suppose he's not the worst option

I have a tough choice between Maroney and Chris Wells this week. FBG says play Wells and has him 10 spots higher than Maroney, but Im not certain that is correct. Arizona has a tough game against a rising Titans team and Wells has been mainly having good games when they are way ahead. Titans run D has been decent as of late, and Wells might only get 10 carries if they go to pass mode. I'm leaning towards Maroney, but according to FBG I'd be nuts to do that.

I see it being a shoot out with Maroney having many red zone chances. :goodposting:

Good call by me.

Since week 6, he is RB 14 in my league. Since week 9 he is RB 11. Over the last two weeks he is in the top 5. He will likely see a decrease in touches as Morris gets healthier and Taylor comes back, but he has proven to be a solid contributor, even a borderline RB1 in my 12 team PPR league.

while running he reminds me of one of one of those hyper dogs that can never stop moving...all jittery and shifty...like hes got an itch he cant scratch
