From Rotoworld:

Marshawn Lynch was arrested in California last Wednesday night on felony charges of possession of a concealed firearm.

He was found with the loaded weapon when police on patrol came across Lynch and two other men in a 2006 Mercedes Benz. Lynch is currently free on bond, but considering the seriousness of the charge he may have to serve jail time. This is his second run-in with the law as a pro, putting Lynch at major risk of NFL suspension. Lynch was investigated for hit and run in June 2008 after allegedly striking a female pedestrian and fleeing the scene. Feb. 15 - 4:01 pm et

wow, that is big news for Lynch and Jackson owners. Wonder what kind of suspension Lynch could be facing

F. Jackson and Xavier Omon's value just went up.

Waldman really liked Omon last year, so maybe the kid gets to show his stuff along side Jackson.

As much as FBG and Rotoworld news differ and squabble, you can't fault them from the inclusion of "may have to serve jail time".There's nothing definite here, but jailtime is a possibility for anyone arrested for a felony.

I don't have a problem with him having a gun. The problem is not going through steps to make sure the gun was legal, registered, and he had required permits. Pretty stupid.

Understandable. It just seems like over the years, pro athletes who get busted on gun charges rarely get jail time. When they do it seems like the 60-90 day condenced version of jail time.I know little to nothing about gun laws, how does CA view this type of thing? After the weeks of "NY is going to hammer Plax" talks and headlines, it seems like another slap on he wrist is coming down the pipes at this point.

Where have you heard this? From what I've read, if Burress had an unlicensed gun (which from all accounts he did), he gets a mandatory 3 year sentence - there is no wiggle room for the judge in this from what I understand, it's cut and dry. I'd be interested to see if there is a way out for Plaxico though...

It's out of sight, out of mind. There's so many new scandals since Plax shot himself, so it's understandable. Despite what the Shark Pool thinks, there are non-NFL stories that do make headlines that somehow (gasp) trump football.Plax can still lawyer up like the best of them and go for the time served / plea bargain / community service etc. type deal. He's not going to be a Vick-type prisoner IMHO but I think he could get something that costs him a season (say 8-10 months, the rest commuted or turned into community service).Pure speculation on my end though.

 I just had to check that... Plax may still be in serious troubles. I was just recalling a Rosenhaus statement (I know, I know) where he was saying teams interested in Plax shouldn't worry about his pending court date.

I'd think you'd have to bump him down a touch for 2009 considering the seemingly good possibility of a suspension.

The gun was in the back seat of the car and not visable. Thats what NFL Live reported. Very odd circumstance. He needed it hanging from his gun rack in the back window... and then it would be okee dokee.
if he is not smart enough to know the gun laws, that's his own damn fault

 If you own/carry a gun, it is YOUR responsibility to understand the laws associated with it.

Won't help his defense much. Tank Johnson's first gun charge came when a valet saw it in his center console bringing his car around.

It's not his primary issue to resolve right now, but I'm sure that Lynch is not looking forward to the scheduled meeting at the commissioner's office.

How about adding a little weed in the mix??

Culver City police reportedly found four marijuana blunts in the Mercedes Benz with Marshawn Lynch and two friends when Lynch was arrested.Analysis: There were no charges for possession of marijuana because police could determine neither ownership nor who was doing smoking. ESPN.com is reporting that the Los Angeles County District Attorney does, however, expect to charge Marshawn Lynch with possession of a loaded weapon by the end of this week. Similar to the Plaxico Burress case, Lynch could end up serving jail time if he's found guilty.
What a dummy.ETA---What is that crap about "not determining ownership or who was smoking"? So the key to not getting busted smoking marijuana is to make sure there's at least one other person there so they can't prove whose it is? That's the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard. Gimme a break.

They probably just figure the gun charge is a slam dunk, so they're not worried about the fine that would come from possession.

bump whatever RB the Bills draft.

Jackson's not a consistent 15+ touch back, he's better served getting 8-10 touches a game.

In a pinch he can carry a bigger load, but not game in/game out.

For an attorney or anyone else who may know, doesn't the mixture of a gun and drug charge up the severity?

Also, does it matter whether it was his if it was in his car?

"We may not wait for the legal process to conclude when we have repeat offenders," Goodell said Jan. 30 at his annual state of the league address before the Super Bowl. "You can have a false accusation once, maybe twice. When you start getting into multiple accusations, you are putting yourself in the wrong position. You are making the wrong decision. You are in the wrong places.

"At that point in time, you are reflecting poorly on the NFL, yourself, your teammates. That does damage for all of us."

Interesting to note how the previous meeting w/ Goodell was and is considered since charges were reduced in the legal system. Lynch is in deep here, he needs some serious help to get out of this mess.

How do you know that? Have the Bills stated that somewhere? His 27 rushes (a number topped by Lynch only once in his career) in the final game last might suggest otherwise.

Statement by Lynch's lawyer, courtesy of ESPN:

"He's not someone who tries to get in trouble," Schwartzbach said. "He's not someone who tries to violate the law. He just isn't. I hope that this is going to be resolved as quickly as possible and as fairly as possible.

"I'm hopeful he comes out of this with his career intact."

He's got his work cut out for him. A loaded and concealed weapon is a ##### of a charge. I have not seen information regarding the weapon registration and if Lynch has a current permit to carry a concealed weapon. I'm not a lawyer and did not stay at a HolidayInn last night, but I'd think that he'll be charged with a 2nd degree felony at the worst. I'm certain that Goodell's more than steamed about another player in the news with a firearm. Guessing here, but Goodell will lay the schmack down on Lynch sooner than later.

Lynch is fudged in a big way.
