Massachusetts teacher killed by student. No gun used. (1 Viewer)

So another killing in a school. This time it wasn't some kid randomly shooting classmates and teachers. It was one teacher murdered in a bathroom with a box cutter, not a gun.

CNN Article

I've seen this before. Was she piloting a large commercial aircraft over New York by chance? Because if so, I might know the motive.

He is 14 & being charged as an adult - I like that... What is the age cutoff for being charged as an adult?
In Mass, it is 14 yrs old if a charge or 1st or 2nd degree murder, per the article.
Yep, otherwise this answer tends to vary by state and severity of the crime.
Even if being charged as an adult, "the 14 year old junior varsity soccer star" (as the daily news called him) wouldn't go to adult prison until 18 though, correct?

Again, this answer probably varies by state. Generally, the idea of juvie and the juvenile justice system is rehabilitation (at least in theory) so their programs are a bit different. The adult criminal system generally doesn't embrace this theory and the idea of prison is incapacitation and retribution. Since this kid would be tried as an adult, I doubt he'd be required to go to juvey but would instead go to an adult prison because he faced charges. But I don't see why states would have to do it this way so there's a decent chance some don't.

In my state (AZ), the juvenile would still go to an adult prison, but would have to be segregated until he was 18. Most jails and prisons here have pods (areas of the jail/prison) where juveniles facing or sentenced for adult charges get housed together. Technically, the juveniles then are supposed to have no contact with any adult inmate until the kid turns 18 - at which time he is generally thrown into general population. Good luck, kid.

There's more than a little irony that comes with treating under-age offenders as juveniles unless the crime is serious.

Soooo, this poor girls death becomes fodder for FFA comedy because she was sliced and diced to death with a box cutter rather than dying at the hands of some gunman.

Nicely played, OP. :(

Consider it the Little Monster Doctrine.

Not that it is a good excuse, but it is more mocking of the left who constantly politicize these killings before the body is even cold.

Ban box cutters. Oh, apparently the murderer was a soccer player, so ban that too.
We should close down schools. Seems like that's where a lot of crime happens.

Who cares? Why is this still polluting CNN front page? It's been there for over 24 hours now. Is it because they have a picture of her with a one shoulder off dress where she looks sorta hot?

Is this going to be a nancy grace wall to wall coverage event?

What did I do? I posted nothing but facts.

Truth be told, when I first heard about this story, I assumed the kid used a gun to commit the crime. After the shootings in Sparks NV, the day before, I again was asking "where are these kids getting guns to commit crimes" It wasn't until I read this article that I found out a gun was not used.

I am flattered that you think I control the FFA fodder. I don't. But thanks anyway.

Not a very good excuse at all. What is wrong with you guys?

It's missing white woman syndrome combined with school violence.

Sorry, once the Jody Arias trial wrapped up, it's all downhill. Sell, sell, sell!

It's probably front page news because nothing else is really going on right now in our country.

CNN switched to more of a tabloid style after they hired Jeff Zucker. They're almost what Headline news is now. Almost.

I would have gone with: ", ricin not used". After all, BB just ended

Stop what? You're the one making assumptions.

Did you read the rest of my post, or where you too busy bolding out the first line?

I see nothing wrong with your post. Don't worry about what others think. Low numbers don't always mean they are right.

Besides the ACA, it seems to be the hottest topic in the FFA. It lead morning news broadcasts and was displayed at the first game of the World Series. It's a pretty big story.

I didn't know the suspect was African American either, until I clicked on your link. I don't think it matters.

As a father of three teenagers, (two boys), I am bothered by the passe attitude towards violence some teenagers have. By the time I was 16, I "owned" three rifles. I kept them on a gun rack in my room, but never had the slightest desire to use them for anything but hunting.

Fast forward to today and my sons "own" three guns as well. They've never given me any reason to be concerned, but I keep them locked up. If possible, I break down the gun and remove the action/bolt. The gun goes in a gun safe, and the actions go in a separate safe in my office. They do have pocket knives and hunting knives readily available.

So the question begs, what happened in the last 30 years? Something in the water? Video games? Violent TV?

:o How DARE you!

KC- you posted this article as "Massachusetts teacher killed by student. No gun used."

If "No gun used" wasn't your effort to make a "pro-gun" statement in a thread about a poor 24 year old teacher who died a horrible death at the hands of her killer, than mon apologies.

It kinda wound up going that route...

Honestly, these things probably occured at about the same rate back then. But thanks to the 24/7 news cycle, we hear about them a lot more.

Do you equally condemn those that quickly use a death to make pro-gun control statements?

No, because enough gun owners apparently don't know how to control their guns. Damn things keep ending up in the hands of people who kill people.

Ok, so you're only against deaths being used for political agendas when it doesn't match your political agenda. Got it.
