The alliance thing is idiotic. I'm surprised Ryan left. Even though he served crap on a plate, they had invested so much in making him the villain that I thought they would keep him around - I thought the "the loser should come up here and hand in his apron" bit was to make Kalli the loser even though his dish was better.Kind of funny to watch the non-blind Asian chick have the total meltdown. And I hate Monti - it's no wonder she's a single mom after seeing the way she shrieked at people in the kitchen.
I would have bet a weeks pay Tali would never turn his apron in on his own. I was kind of thinking they may go for the twist and let the guy who admitted he sucked stay.
That's what I was hoping for too

Yeah, I 100% thought that's what they were going to do. And I thought that Ryan figured it out.
So, I'm not crazy. This was exactly what I thought was going to happen. There wasn't a chance in hell that Tali was going to turn his apron in. Time and time again Tali shows he's in a world of his own and not part of any reality the show chefs are a part of.
"This is crazy. I shouldn't be the last pick I should be the first!"Gotta be schtick.
Neither of them seemed to get how universally despised they are either. Well I guess not universally since one contestant was sad to see Ryan go. I don't think anyone will shed a tear for Tali though.
I was :lmao: at the team selections
It was pretty funny to see them completely confused about why nobody wanted them. I loved the trade.
 I was literally yelling at the tv, "BECAUSE YOU'RE BOTH ####### DOUCHEBAGS!!"

Tali should have went home, Ryan at least won a mystery box challenge with his sweetbreads, Tali hasn't had a single good dish. I get that the lava cake was the pressure test, but they should have considered the body of work up til this point.

That said, I'm glad to see Ryan gone, and now that the dream team has been broken up (lmao), Tali shouldn't be far behind.

I would have booted Tali. I don't like Ryan but I think Ryan is a much better cook than Tali.

So they must get some basic recipes that they can modify, right? They can't be coming up with everything out of thin air.

I never knew I had a thing for crying Asian women until tonight.

Wow they put Felix through the wringer there at the end...but you knew what was coming.

Food Truck challenge next week....sweet.

I don't know. Now Monti didn't seem to know all the ingredients she needed in the Trifle. Still hard to believe so many people knew how to make Trifle and Tiramisu. I get Frank knowing but it seems like those wouldn't be things you'd expect everyone to know how to make. David made it clear he'd never made it before but still it looked rightish even if he blew the execution. He seemed to have the right parts. So I wonder just how much info they get pre-cook on these as well.

Yeah it had to be Scott. But it kind of sucked for him because desserts were killing him. The apple pie then this.

We were discussing this as well last night. There's no way they knew the ingredients for those two desserts without beig told. Let's not forget they have to run to the pantry and collect their own items. There's now way they are running in uninformed at least on the basics of the dish. An English trifle?! I would bet that no one in that contest has ever made one, and I'm 110% Italian and don't even know the ingredients of Tira Misu. Funny exchange from Joe to Josh... "Tastes like a banana split" Josh is all :) , "problem is its not supposed to taste like a banana split". Josh is :kicksrock:

Yeah that was pretty good.

Wal Mart steaks?
wtf are walmart steaks? Just steaks you buy at a walmart grocery or do they have cows grazing on cigarette butts and candy wrappers in the parking lot?

The FFA has steak snobs. Apparently they think where you buy it affects taste.
The location doesn't really, but the freshness does. When you buy from a place that only sells prepackaged, those steaks have been cut for a minimum of a week before they even hit the shelf. The other thing that affects the taste is how the cows were raised. I doubt Walmart is getting all their meat from local farms where the cows are grass fed and roaming the fields at their will.

I think it was more appropriate to show that low-cost walmart options can still taste good on a show like this one, about home cooks, than shoe-horning in the similar "make a meal using things only found at Target for $20" challenge on a show featuring professional chefs like Top Chef did.

Well USDA Choice is Choice and very few supermarkets are selling you free range beef. If they are you are paying big bucks for it and it likely isn't a store brand.

Right....my point was it's not really about the location. And you're right...Choice is choice, but that's all about how the cow was raised and processed for sale. Has nothing to do with freshness and how long it sits in a freezer etc after it's been processed. All I'm saying is that when you go into a store and buy the stuff that's pre packaged, it's probably been in that state for a while before you even buy it. During that time it's losing freshness.

Kind of sucked to see Anna go. David, who is now number 2 on my doosh list, cost them the challenge but she should have been on him. I think in the long run she is a better cook than Tanya though. Still serving raw anything is pretty much a ticket out.

what happened to her stove last night. did the burner go out and she didn't realize it until it was too late?

Agree with all of this. I didnt wanna see Anna go.While it was on Anna to get her team going, between the four of them, they should have figured out they needed to have food ready to serve at the get go. Two minutes til service and no burgers on the grill? Epic fail, the blame goes to all four. Although it wasnt entirely his fault, David is a whiny skirt and I was hoping he would go home. Figures he would knock it out of the park.

Well to be fair everyone had their bit to do. As far as I could tell the only one not pulling their weight was David early on. Still it was on the team captain to be sure he was doing his thing. He's just lucky this wasn't Hells Kitchen with the raw hamburger. Ramsey would have really lit him up.

Tali:

when Chef Ramsey interrupts me in the middle of my creative genius explosion, it's kind of like interrupting a master artist like Picasso
:lmao:This is either the best schtick I've ever seen or this guy is truly living in Bizarro World.

I have probably never liked a reality show contestant as much as I like Christine. She has really earned my respect in this competition.

That said, I think Frank will edge Becky for the win.

Tali totally came across as the indy music artist who was never signed and thinks the record companies are stupid.

I laughed my ### off every time he opened his mouth lol.

I'm def on the Christina bandwagon. I teared up a bit. Fml.

I don't particularly like Monti, but after all the smack talk on her tonight it was awesome to see her throw it in their faces.

At this point I am definitely rooting for Monti to make it far. I am also rooting for Frank, Felix and Christina. That would make a pretty good final four IMO. I think Frank may be able to win this thing. He has really taken the criticism to heart and raised his game significantly.

Not getting the Felix love, but there needs to be a fourth and I agree with your other three. I have no desire to see any of the rest of them, so I guess it's Felix by default for me. I like the basketball player ok, but he's been slow to improve. What is it about this show that always finds a select group of folks who grow to be unjustifiably cocky as the show goes on? It happened last year and is happening again this year.

I think Felix is a little inexperienced but she can cook. And yeah the whole cocky thing is weird. I think that's part of what I like about Frank he seems to just put his head down and do his thing. Becky is starting to wear on me though. I mean she has been good no doubt but at the same time she hasn't been flawless or anything. Same thing with tattoo girl. Really hasn't done enough to warrant her ego.I will miss Tali a bit. His whole "they are just too old school to get my genius" shtick was always worth a laugh.

He was absolutely worth a laugh. I was over Becky a couple weeks ago. I do agree Felix can cook. Maybe it's just because she's so quiet? Dunno.

What about Josh for a dark horse (pun intended).

That's the basketball player right? I mentioned him...he and Felix are 4a/b for me. He has more personality imo.

I think on most other nights, Christine would have been shown the door. That dish looked disgusting. She's lucky she had those two yahoos to fall onto.

Do they even show Josh's meals? I didn't see his last night.
He was top three in the mystery box last night. He was the 7 foot guy standing between the two midget like ladies  ;)
But I don't recall ever seeing them taste or comment on the challenge meal he cooked. He had sardines and I was waiting to see what he did with it. Maybe I missed it though.
Oh, I thought he was talking in general. Not sure they showed his sardine meal now that you mention it. I think you're right. If they did show it, I missed it as well.

They did not show his sardines. They haven't shown many of his dishes, last night's mystery box was his first top-3 appearance as the judge mentioned. He's solidly in the middle of the pack. He'll need to step up with a lot of the deadweight gone. He and David Martinez are the low-hanging fruit of the 9 left.

I think Martinez is the next one gone if no one else totally screws the pooch. I think he is over his head at this point.

My thoughts:

Glad to see Tali finally get booted. That guy is delusional, although I thought his sea urchin dish looked awesome.

Not showing them taste everyones dish is really annoying.

Christines dish looked horrible but based on performance up to this point, no way was she gonna go home. If she screws up again, shes fair game.

David has had a few straight weeks of bad dishes, no reason he shouldnt be next. No one left in the competition has been nearly as bad.

Becky is becoming annoying to me with her whining about not winning challenges. We all know shes an awesome cook, but shut the #### up and be happy youre constantly in the top 3.

Seems theres a lot of Monti hate from several other contestants all of a sudden. Maybe I just havent noticed before, but I dont get it. Shes been nailing dishes left and right, maybe its a behind the scenes thing?

Frank is quietly becoming a force. The dudes got skills.

He did however, have one of the best dishes in an earlier elimination challenge (Thai crab trio with curry and rice made from canned crab) and was a team captain for the restaurant breakfast service competition.

Right, they have shown some of his dishes, just not many. At this point, everyone has at least one or two successes they could highlight. That's not going to be enough to keep him around over people who have shown more in the same amount of time. I get the feeling he's constantly in the middle. Sometimes high, sometimes low, but mainly the guy in the bottom half of the top 10 or so. Now that we're down to 9, that goes from "flying under the radar" to "dangerously low hanging fruit".

I like the guy, and he could go farther, but he's going to have to step up his game if he wants to stay.

I think it's because she is starting to worry them. Seems like everyone thought she was a flighty fluke who would be gone any minute. To the contrary she looks like she's for real. A couple of people have tried to sink her with tough challenges but she keeps killing it. And Ramsey answered the "she just memorizes recipes" meme himself when he judged her dish. I think they are right to be worried.
