Matt Cain (1 Viewer)

12 team, 5x5 Roto...weekly lineup submitted

Is he too good to bench for next week? He is coming off the worst outing of his career as Philly knocked him around (3 INN, 8 H, 4 BB, 7 ER). Next week he faces a potent NYM lineup and then is on the road in Colorodo. A two start Cain is usually a no brainer, but next week scares me a little. Am I over-reacting to a bad outing. Should I run him out there and hope he bounces back in these difficult matchups?

Here is my Pitching staff...I can have any combination of 7 pitchers in my lineup:

Cain - 2 NYM/@ COL

Lackey -@ TEX

Kazmir -@ TOR

Hamels - CHC

Burnett- TB

Garcia - 2 @ARI/CHC

Jennings - DL

Hoffman - 4 @ATL/3 StL

Jones - 3 SEA/3 @MIN

Fuentes - 3 @StL/4 SF

WW options...Linecum (have put in claim to drop Jennings for him...@ COL), Marquis (2 starts PIT/??), Hendrickson (2 start: FLA/CIN

I'm very deep at pitching and I'm starting Cain for his double start and not thinking twice about it. He just had trouble with his command against the Phills. Good pitchers usually bounce back after an outting like that one. As far as him pitching at Coors, the park hasn't been the park of old for the past year and a few months now. Damn the humidadore!

Cain has had trouble with his control, period. His BB/9 is 5+, K/9 in the 6's. As one might expect, his xERA is in the 5's. I'd bench him for now since he's obviously talented, but he's due to get bombed.

On the flip side, ride out Garcia's slump. Obviously you have to pick up Lincecum but he's too talented to cast off now.

Nice call here. Freddy only threw 80 pitches also, which is a welcome change from his 5 inning 100 pitch efforts of late.

I think Cain's coming around. The Mets hit his fatball pretty well early in the game last night, and it really forced him to work on his off-speed pitches. By the end of the game, he was throwing the curve and change-up for strikes. Maybe its homer optimism, but I think he's going to go on another pretty good run for his next few starts.

Next 4 starts line up to be:

@ COL

@ OAK

vs. COL

@ NYM

Should do pretty well against the Rockies and A's. His last start at Coors was a gem.

No idea what that combination of smilies is supposed to mean, but he actually settled in and avoided a truly horrible start7.0IP 10H 4ER 1BB 4SO Certainly not a good start, but its not gonna kill you either.
His K/9 and BB/9 point towards disaster. Tonight he might've dodged a bullet by scattering the hits after he initially got bombed, but no pitcher can sustain the success he has with a 5.8 K/9, 4.4 BB/9, and a 0.6 GO/AO ratio. Playing in a big park helps him out somewhat, but it's not going to hold up. I can't urge Cain owners strongly enough to look into trading him now while his ratios still look palatable. Or figure out an explanation as to where his K's have gone.
