Anybody else think Matt Cassel might be a good candidate to outperform his ADP (currently around the 20th QB off the board in most leagues)?

A few factors to consider:

1) Enter Charlie Weis

2) Has shown the ability to be a worthy fantasy starter (albeit in a completely different and more favourable situation)

3) Addition of play-maker Dexter McCluster

4) Presence of a good receiving back in Jamaal Charles

5) A year in KC under his belt

6) Potential for playing from behind/garbage time

Could Cassel be a candidate to push his way into the lower QB1 tier?

I view him as a Joe Flacco QB Tier 2 type guy with lesser talent around him, but definately not QB1 tier

I'm buying.

I think Cassel found comfort with Chambers last season while Bowe was battling injuries/suspension. I think Bowe himself looks rededicated, and I think he's got the talent to do something with that dedication. I think Charles has the makings of a truly great weapon out of the backfield. And I think McCluster looks like an interesting spin on the Percy Harvin utility receiver, just with less size, niftier feet, and no migraines.

I like him working with coach Weis, and I like their schedule.

If I had anything even remotely positive to say about Leonard Pope, it would be the perfect storm of underratedness.

I think he's got every chance to duplicate or better his success of 2008, and I would draft him in the first round with confidence.

Yes. Weis will have a greater positive impact of Cassel and the Chiefs offense than Martz will of Cutler and the Bears.

I rolled the dice waiting on my qbs, got cassel to back up flacco....there are still some decent qbs on the wire but I do think that cassel might do well this year. I am heavily invested in the Ravens and the Chiefs this year. 1st pick was rice, 3rd was charles and i was shocked that he was still available.

I think he'll perform better than his ADP because everyone hates him . Not a lot of Cassel guys out there to whip up a hysteria like other guys. He's available as one of the last handful QBs in most drafts.

He has weapons but needs time from the OL

I agree completely, and have no idea what I was thinking.

He will be an "ok" option, but little more.

Not unless he starts throwing down the field. He plays tentatively, and often looks like a deer in the headlights. As KC's OL got better last year as the year went on, and JCharles emerged as a beast, Cassel actually got WORSE.

Not a fan. Wouldn't touch him as anything more than a bye-week filler. He might had the odd good game (for him, 250/2), but you'll never known when it's coming. More likely, you'll get your standard 180/1/1. In other words, worthless.

Yeah, higher than ADP isn't saying much. I think he'll be a solid backup, which is more than I can say for the likes of VY, Jason Campbell, Garrard, Freeman, Sanchez, etc. But I'd rather have Henne, Smith or Stafford over Cassel.

He's a worthwhile pick if he's your third QB. He's got two potentially juicy matchups during weeks 15 (StL) and 16 (Ten) but I'd hesitate to rely on him as much more than a deep sleeper.

love him as a backup QB for matchups. If he blows u wasted a 14th round pick if he is solid you have a solid backup QB. Well worth his ADP

I'm stuck with Henne and Cassel as my QBs in my 16-team league. I hope he outplays his ADP, but I doubt he actually does so.

As a guy who barely is not getting drafted, I feel he is worth a gamble if you have room to roster him. If he plays great on Mon night, I will probably drop a 5th rb/wr to pick him up. Usually people are slow to pick up qbs since at least 7 - 9 people in a league are cool with their qbs at the beginning of the year. If Cassel can show that he will be a 250/ 2.5 per game type guy he will be a steal, especially with the schedule he plays.

Same dilemma here this week. My opponent has Rice so maybe I stick with Flacco to #### block the chance of a dump off TD. Not a good problem to have week 1, unfortunately.

Go with Flacco. Cassel may be at home and against the Chargers, but he still sucks. KC will want to run the ball 35-40 times, which is where their advantage in the game lies.

Flacco might have a pick or 2, but he should outgain and outscore Cassel pretty easily. And it's not like Cassel is immune to picks. His flutterballs are generally floating around for DBs to pick off.

Do you mean 2.5 TD's per game? That's 40 TD's! I'd take that.

Depends what you are looking for...Young is a better backup, but Cassell has more upside.
