Obviously, innocent until proven guilty. However, just when you thought he was turning the corner...

...with both football and life.

That's too bad I really thought he had put that behind him and was moving in the right direction both as a person and on the football field.

Yup, busted again. "Possession of a Controlled Substance"

These guys don't change. Why do we ever think they will. He somehow got off on the coke charges last time and avoided most of Goodell's wrath, getting only 3 games. Not this time.

It's Walker / Northcutt / rookie time!

Detention Info -- Booking Date 3/9/09

not when you are already on diversion for a felony. He's likely to serve penn time for the violation of whatever program they had him on, surely it wasn't for less than a year...#######!!Edited: It was for 9 months. If it started in Oct, would have been off in June

why comment on his charges like you know the system, if you don't? He didn't get "off the charges", he got diversion. Big difference. Those (old) charges are going to be brought against him now

You're right. I "misrembered." :( My point remains, he's not playing football for awhile.

KFSM: Former Razorbacks Quarterback Matt Jones in Jail

Former Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback Matt Jones is back in Washington County Jail after admitting that he had been drinking alcohol, according to a TV report.

Former Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback Matt Jones is back in Washington County Jail after admitting that he had been drinking alcohol, a violation of the Drug Court Program he has been participating in, according to KFSM-TV.

The northwest Arkansas CBS affiliate reports on its Web site that Jones, who was arrested last summer for cocaine possession, told Drug Court Judge Mary Ann Gunn on Monday that he had been drinking while playing golf on Thursday.

Jones is not supposed to drink while taking part in the Drug Court Program.

"Jones told the Judge Gunn it was a bad decision. Judge Gunn told Jones she thought he was a good person and because of that he had to choose between a week in jail or entering a six weeks residential drug program," the KFSM report said "She said he will also be set back in the program. After a short recess, Judge Gunn decided Jones will go to Washington County Jail until 8 a.m. Sunday morning. Gunn cut the jail sentence short so Jones could make Jaguar football practice."

Jones' booking report is available on the Washington County Sheriff's Office Web site.

Jones began the drug program in October.

Jezzus........these damned reporters.

How does "drinking" become a "controlled substance"? Ummmmm, last I checked......a controlled substance was more along the lines of hippie lettuce, coke, prescription pills that aren't his, X-TC, etc.

so he admitted that he was drinking or did he fail a breathalyzer/UA? Why would you just tell your drug court judge you were drinking?

because he was arrested for his drug court/diversion violation (which was his previous charge)

Tall white guys are trouble
:lmao: Jeez, who are Jax's WRs this year?
Only guys under contract right now are Jones, Walker, Northcutt, and Williamson.
Remember when we thought Garrard would have value?? The sad part is, he worked his butt off for years, only to become the starter with a WR corp that would be mediocre in the CFL. Any chance they bring back Porter at a reduced rate, or was he more of a cancer than a bust?

OK, so here's the deal. He was drinking last week (says he was playing golf with buddies), and was nailed as part of his random testing. It's a probation violation, not a new arrest for anything big. I suppose Goodell will still hit him with something though.

Porter is probably the 5th best WR on that team, after Walker, Northcutt, Williamson, and Jones' probation officer. However, Bobby Engram, Torry Holt, Joey Galloway............There must be a Mike Walker bandwagon round here somewhere.

maybe tough for Goodell to do much? It's not against NFL policy to drink...sure he'll be pissed though. Should be interesting

The fact that a minor can't buy alcohol makes it "controlled," but for most people who have entered drug treatment programs, alcohol is chasing a high versus just having a couple of beers.

I'm resurrecting the ghost of Marcedes Lewis.

This doesn't seem like a big deal, doubt he'll get suspended.
bet he will. if it wasn't a big deal he wouldnt be in jail for the better part of the week.
so you are saying drinking on the golf course is a violation of the NFL conduct policy? how many players would be left if they suspended every NFL player that drank on the golf course or while fishing, etc...?

How many of those players are on probation for cocaine?

Ahmad Bradshaw violated his probation (for undetermined charge). Did he get suspended? He's served the last 2 summers in jail

IIRC, his previous felony possesion charge was "set aside" after he completed his 6-week drug rehab thing. So any violation of probation might cause the penalties from that first offense to come back into play.

Wasnt Bradshaw's original charge when he was a juvenile? Little different than being busted with cocaine when you're in the NFL.

from when he was in college, don't think it was when he was a juvenile (under 18). That's really the only precedent we have to go by.It's not like Jones was tearing it up in the clubs, driving drunk, or mixing it up with stippers. He had a few beers on the golf course...harmless

Wow. $150,000 bond for drinking on a golf course! Raise your hand if you have ever drank a beer on a golf course? What is this country coming to?
For those of us not enrolled in a drug court program having a beer on the golf course is no big deal. However when you are enrolled in the program and are specifically prohibited from drinking alcohol, then yes it is a big deal. I suspect this additional transgression has added an extra game or two to whatever suspension the commish was going to hand out.I believe that this was the only time that he drank while in the program and only used cocaine once in his life. This guy is just plain unlucky.

The career of Jaguars receiver Matt Jones took yet another damaging turn Monday when he was booked into the Washington County Detention Center in Fayetteville, Ark. for violating terms of the plea deal that placed him in a drug intervention program.

A participant in the Washington County Drug Court because of his felony cocaine arrest last July, Jones was booked at 6:21 p.m. Monday for possession of a controlled substance and held on a $150,000 bond, according to Washington County records. But Jones’ arrest Monday actually stemmed from a positive result on a random test for alcohol taken on Feb. 27.

“We’re aware of the situation and are still gathering information,” said Jaguars general manager Gene Smith, who declined to comment further.

Terms of Jones' drug treatment program call for participants to abstain from drugs and alcohol, and individuals are tested randomly for the substances. Positive results from Jones' alcohol test came in late last week, and he appeared in court Monday to face Judge Mary Ann Gunn, who presides over the drug court, about the positive result.

“He came to court and admitted to Judge Gunn that he did drink on Thursday before the test when he was playing golf with some friends in Northwest Arkansas,” said Lisa Dennis, deputy prosecuting attorney for the drug court. “Since it was a proceeding that happened in court, I don’t really feel comfortable commenting on it or talking about it.”

During the court appearance, Jones was given the choice between 10 days of jail or admittance into a residential drug treatment facility for six weeks. Jones initially chose treatment because he didn’t want his mother, Paula, to see him taken to jail. But Gunn suggested that the receiver consider what a six-week stint in drug treatment might do to his NFL career. So Jones chose jail, where he'll remain until 8 a.m. Sunday.

Jones was initially set to spend 10 days in jail. But Jones told Gunn he needed to be back in Jacksonville by Monday to undergo a body assessment scheduled by the club, which begins offseason conditioning next week.

“He had been 100 percent compliant,” Dennis said. “This is the first time since he’s been in the program that he’s had any hiccup.”

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio didn’t return text messages seeking comment.

Jones’ entrance into the Washington County Drug Court stems from an incident last July in which Fayetteville police arrested the former first-round draft pick after seeing him inside a parked car allegedly cutting up cocaine with a Foot Locker discount card.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Jones entered the drug program, typically a 9- to 12-month intervention program that includes 30 hours of community service, 136 hours of group therapy, and submittal to at least 78 random tests for drugs and alcohol, to have that charge erased from his record. It's likely that Jones' time in the drug program will be extended by Gunn after Monday's development.

A five-year veteran, Jones was suspended by the NFL for the final three weeks of last season for violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy. According to the league's substance-abuse policy, agreements such as Jones' drug-program plea fall into outcomes that can be reviewed for disciplinary action. That's why the NFL upheld the suspension it originally handed down in October a week after Jones entered the drug program.

Up to that point, the NFL was considering an appeal Jones had entered that October. Jones could face further discipline from the league for his latest transgression and possibly punishment from the Jaguars, who under Smith, have re-committed themselves to eliminating players with character issues.

Jones lost more than $110,000 in base salary ($36,764 per game check) due to last year's suspension. It's unclear whether the club tried to recoup a prorated portion of his signing bonus ($222,352), which is what the club did in '07, when former defensive tackle Marcus Stroud was suspended four games for violating the league's policy on steroids and related substances.

Jones enjoyed a resurgent year in '08, after sources inside the organization said the club planned to cut him before the start of the season. Jones played in 12 games with 10 starts, catching a career-high 65 passes for 761 yards and two touchdowns.

Jones enters the final year this season of his original rookie contract and is set to become a free agent in '09. So if the Jags decide to cut him, the hit to the salary cap would be minimal.

I really want to see Walker play a season healthy and see what he can do. He has the talent to be a really good WR imo
