I wish that Sirius could interview his agent to see what contract Jones is seeking. Seems especially curious now that he has not ben offered something. I trust the reports from Wadsworth regarding his conditioning and attitude. Remaining hopeful that he'll get an opportunity.
I absolutely stand by my previous statement that Matt is currently in amazing shape and focused on his football career. I can also tell you that his contract "demands" are not close to crazy. I hesitate to even call them demands because mostly he just wants to get on the field to prove he can play. His only real demand might be that he doesn't want a long term deal, since he expects a small contract and wants to be able to prove his worth and potentially sign a bigger deal sooner rather than later. The guy is in shape, focused and ready to go and I remain baffled that he isn't signed.
He almost got cut on numerous occasions by jacksonville because of a lack of commitment. This guy just does not have a football attitude. Yes, he had a decent year going last season but there are off the field and locker room questions about him, and his talent is not so great that it overcomes the concerns. He also is a guy who is always nursing some injury or another. There is no conspiracy. Trust me: if teams thought that he was worth the money and could help them win someone would have signed him.
I would bet Jones has a unique personality that goes like this: Unless he is the center of things (starting QB at a big school like Arkansas) and the pressure is squarely on him at every second, he becomes disinterested until things heat up again. Thus what was happening with his concentration lapses or his lack of enthusiasm for practice as noted in many articles covering the Jags between 2006/2007. As a rookie the pressure was squarely on him to live up to the first round pick, and he focused/responded, had a great game against NE in playoffs. But it faded from there. A lot of people are like that, they live for responding to pressure where they are at their best and are basically bored by anything less. The small things do nothing for them. Had JAX been able to pressure him he might have continually responded and lived up to his measurables. I could be off saying above he isn't that talented, but he just didn't meet the potential _and is a long shot to do it now.
