Matt Jones: The Saga Continues- TB works him out (1 Viewer)

I got nothing. In the past I've been able to hear a lot of Matt Jones news early, but right now I'm not hearing anything other than that he is prepared to play in that other league if nothing happens. In the past he had expressed interest in playing basketball in Europe if his NFL career got derailed, but now he's saying he's going to play WR and hope to impress enough to get back in the NFL if nothing shakes out.

FAIL! Quincy liked him some Marahoochie!
i think he tested + for charlie too IIRc.http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/archives/...d_cocaine_test/
Ok anyone who has followed his sad story is well aware that his problem has ALWAYS been pot. Not cocaine. Only one report has ever linked him to cocaine one. It was some broadcast report. Not a league source, not a league report. Not a team source.
According to a broadcast report, Carter tested positive for cocaine, but in an interview with The Dallas Morning News, Carter said he was stunned by his release and called the aforementioned report "ridiculous."

"I'm shocked. I'm at a loss for words," Carter told the newspaper. "The one thing I know and the people who have been around me all my life know is that cocaine has never been an issue for me. It never will be. And it's disturbing that a rumor like that would come out.
ESPN Articlebusted for Mary Jane

Randy Galloway of 103.3 espn radio actually posted his bail. The old softy.

Another pot charge

Cronic again

Now is it resonable that in 3 subsiquint busts a coke fiend just happened to have pot but was out of coke? or is it more likely that some unattributed, unverified "broadcast report"was incorrect.

I report! You decide!

I'm not saying you're right or wrong, but a cokehead not having any coke is not a strong argument to prove your point.

I think it might be worth considering Matt Jones' value as a Titan at this point. I know Gage has shown flashes and Britt could be a future number 1, how would Jones fit and what kind of numbers could he put up?

Matt Jones is scheduled for a workout tomorrow (Thursday) with the Titans.

Yea, he's on a plane right now. I can tell you that Matt is in amazing shape and focused on his football career right now. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't signed soon. He'll give an impressive workout and should interview well. But it's kinda hard to get excited about any WR for Titans fantasy wise currently.

As a Matt Jones owner, I really hope that the Bears are keeping an eye on him.
 Same here. Collins and Fisher both don't inspire my confidence in Jones' fantasy potential. His NFL potential, sure. He is squarely on the bubble on my team. And I really want to keep him.

Jones to the Bears would be a great match both NFL and Fantasy-wise but it's looking more and more like the Titans.link

After five weeks of discussions, the Tennessee Titans are bringing free-agent wide receiver Matt Jones in for a visit Thursday.

Tennessee has been searching for a veteran receiver since before the NFL draft. It has explored any number of options, but the one it is zeroing in on now seems to be Jones.

Jones' agent, Alan Herman, also has been in contact with the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears regarding Jones, but the Titans are the team that is acting fastest.

"This is moving quickly," Herman said Wednesday. "We're ready to go and get a deal done, and we're optimistic we will. Matt is in outstanding shape, he's ready to go, and we think Tennessee would be a great fit."

Adam Schefter is ESPN's NFL Insider.

Forgive me, but I can't remember - is Jones facing any future suspension/discipline from the NFL? I don't think he is, but I can't remember for sure...

Not the best landing spot for him, but he could carve out a role in that offense. The Titans D may not be as strong this season so they could end up opening their offense a little more.

bump Kerry Collins or Young up then - Matt Jones is a fine WR
If they are confident that he is clean...I think it is a fantastic pick up. Do you realize that his 65 catches last year would have made him the #1 WR on the Titans. They'd also be really big. Once Nate is back to stretch the field, throwing this at the defense along with Chris Johnson out of the backfield would be pretty tough to defend.Britt 6"3"Gage 6'4"Cook 6'5"Jones 6'6...plus Nate Washington and Chris Johnson. Defense...do you go big or small?

Do the Titans have an ex-Jaguar fetish? I heard they were working out Jerry Porter and Cleo Lemon today as well.

and he did that in like 10 games. he was hurt/suspended for the others.

I'd advise making a move on Jones now if you plan on it. I heard the workout went well, Matt caught everything thrown at him and ran hand timed 4.45. There were meetings with the team after the workout. We'll see.

Jones will never be a #1 WR due to significant limitations, but like others have said he is a decent #2, ideal #3 (in real life, not fantasy). Good for the Titans...

What's the source of what you heard?

What are his "significant limitations?" Just curious.I don't know if he'll ever be a #1, but he was a decent enough first option last year in Jax, has amazing size and good speed. Why can he "never" be a #1?

Not the OP, but I think the knocks on Jones have been inconsistent hands (til last year, anyways), lack of quickness and agility, and route running. I personally didn't see enough of his play last year to see if these were still an issue despite his great production. I do remember thinking after his combine that his lack of agility would be a big problem in the NFL.

Free agent WRs Matt Jones, Jerry Porter and Samie Parker all left town without contract offers after trying out with the Titans Thursday.

"I don't think anything is imminent," GM Mike Reinfeldt said. "They're guys we have interest in and guys with certain skills we wanted to see. But I don't see anything happening right now." Jones is the most likely of the three to find a home before Week 1.

It would appear to me that at this point that whoever has intentions of signing him will wait until after Week One so as to avoid having to guarantee his contract. With training camps essentially over, there would not be much to gain by not waiting until then.
Bump.

Following the Tennessee Titans' audition of wide receivers Matt Jones, Samie Parker and Jerry Porter, the AFC South team is expected to choose between Jones and Parker.

Matt JonesAPThe Titans are expected to choose between Matt Jones and Samie Parker by Monday.

The decision is expected to be determined by Monday, according to a league source.

All three veteran wide receivers tried out at the Titans' training complex on Thursday with free agent quarterback Cleo Lemon throwing to the trio of wideouts.

I am amazed that they need to consider that decision.Seems like a no-brainer.

Now if My Fantasy League would just add him, they have other free agents listed but no Matt Jones.
Some setting is wrong, then, on your MFL league. I've had him available for weeks on our MFL site.

No one that is "close to signing" has ever taken this long. It was just a rumor that turned out to be untrue. Who signs a player like that the week of cuts?

Best case scenario is someone signs him after week 1, so his contract isn't guaranteed. If he doesn't get signed right after week 1, he may have to wait till an injury hits.

I can't help but think there's something not being reported here.
I really think a big part is that contracts on Week 1 are guaranteed.A team signs Jones now, let's say 1.5 mill, and cuts him in three weeks, he gets the full amount. They sign him after week 1, and they can cut him anytime, and his base isn't guaranteed.

I think Andy nailed that earlier in the week. Regardless, I don't think MJ is the stud WR that some are making him out to be. Factor in his baggage and he is a candidate to earn the league minimum, if that.

So... did his chances of landing somewhere soon just increase?

TEN did cut a WR, BAL only has four WRs now... thoughts?
