Michael C. Wright, Florida Times-Union - [Full Article]

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Matt Jones, who already was slowed by a strained groin, tweaked a hamstring Sunday.

Matt Jones has had problems with his hamstring for years now, it's something he has to constantly battle. Hopfully NFL conditioning will limit how much time and production it costs him, but I doubt it will ever go away.

So he's likely to miss at least a couple of games a season you're saying?

I have no idea, it held up pretty well last season. Big John Henderson has a similar thing with his back, but with work he's been able to keep it under control most of the time. Many NFL players have chronic injuries that they have to continually battle with stretching and conditioning. Some keep the missed time to a minimum and some end up missing some time and/or playing at less than 100% for time to time. It's too soon to know if Matt Jones will be able to control his hamstring issues on a regular basis or not. But it is something he's battled in the past and likely will continue to battle. I'm not saying sell him quick, he's damaged goods. I am saying if you have him in dynasty get use to seeing him on the injury report with hamstring issues for time to time over his career. He should usually be able to play through it but it is an issue with him.

Don't let the injury problems deter you from trading for Jones in dynasty leagues. The hammy thing is likely related to his groin. Jones was one of the league-leaders in targets after the first couple weeks & the Jags have big plans for him.

Williams has looked good, but the guy to have is Jones (long-term). He's a year or so away, but this dude will be a stud, IMO. Be patient.

In my redraft league, I just dont have the room for him on my bench, especially with the bye week shuffling. I am jumping off the bandwagon and hoping to pick up Flurrey from waivers (blind auction for pickups).

From Rotoworld:

Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio is considering giving Matt Jones Week 5 off to rest his lingering groin injury.

Jones got off to a nice start early this season before the injury. He gets a favorable matchup against the Jets next week, but we'd keep him on fantasy benches until he's 100 percent. The Jags' receiving corps is deep and Jones' snaps may continue to be limited.

They are playing the J-E-T-S at home.

I'm jumping off the wagon for the remainder of the year. 4 weeks in and no TD's. Plus they are starting to look like the Colts and Pats in that they spread the ball around too much. Hell, I think Wrighster might be the leading receiver.

In a redraft, he's just not pulling his weight. I'd probably keep him in a dynasty though...depending on how deep the rosters were.

Did Jones finish the game?

I am making a trade this week and might ask for Wilford as a throw in.

He limped off the field, I think early in the 4th. He went in for a couple plays, but was pretty much on the sidelines for the rest of the game.

He isn't that brittle. He has had minor injuries in his brief career, but if you look at his entire history he was never injured in high school or college except for a minor ankle injury that didn't cost him any time. And this was when he was playing as an option QB touching the ball every play. He is a hard worker, and these nagging injuries worry me for my team's short term success, but do not concern me as far as Jone's value in a dynasty league.

I'm hoping Jones is put down this week too so I can pick up Flurrey as well.

Some believe some QBs have "glass jaws" and can't take a hit. Others think they're sitting ducks and quite adept at taking a hit. Curious what type you think Matt was as a QB in college.

WRs take their share of shots and sometimes the QB inadvertently sets them up to get hit.

Anyone who plays Option QB in the SEC and not get hurt his whole career can take a hit.

He was never hurt in college? Interesting, thanks

Bump. Does anyone have good intelligence on how serious Jones' injuries are? Prognosis for returning to the field? And can anyone confirm or deny his injury history. This thread says he never got hurt in college but he has a lingering hammy issue. What gives?

Is this guy worth holding onto as a WR3 (bye-week replacement) after his week 6 bye? I see matchups against the Texans and Titans twice, the Eagles, Giants, Dolphins and Colts.

update??

I am debating trading mo morris to the SA owner for Jones. MoMo has a great match-up week 6 though.

I don't have a link, but I'm hearing that Matt Jones will sit this weekend. I wouldn't bet the farm on it, but... actually I probably would bet the farm on it. I'd be surprised if he plays this weekend.

Matt Jones Draft ProfileThis says he had surgery on his shoulder in 2003, but he didn't miss hardly any time and no games. Other than that he was bothered by right knee fibular head instability in 2002's camp, but didn't miss any time, perhaps this is the hamstring (leg) condition that has been brought up. Other than in this thread, I have heard of no such lingering issue.

I'm assuming there is some truth to the "lingering issue," since the guy who posted it has a picture of Leftwich, I'm assuming he follows the Jaguars rather closely.

RTSports and Joe B are both reporting that he's out this weekend.

From kffl too...KFFL Week5 Injuries

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones (groin, hamstring) missed practice Wednesday, Oct. 4, and is listed as doubtful for Week 5. A groin injury had been limiting him when he suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4 and did not return. Wideout Ernest Wilford would play in Jones' absence.

sigh... Would like to see some of his potential realized this year.

I just dropped him..great talent means little if you can't play..see Robert Smith as an example.

it is just too frustrating to deal with..
