Matt McCoy (1 Viewer)

2 Tackles, 2 PDs on the MFL stat sheet.

I watched the first half and didn't hear his name called once- it was all Trotter, all the time. I'd be curious to hear what happened to him too.

He was not on the field much. He did play special teams. I started him too and wondered why he was out.

Against Houston last week and in the first half yesterday, he went with a one-linebacker (Shawn Barber), six-defensive back package in which he brought Dawkins down in the box as a quasi-linebacker to use as both a blitzer and as a cover guy against the opposing tight end or slot receiver.

But without Hood, Johnson reverted to a more standard two-linebacker (Barber and Jeremiah Trotter) setup and moved Dawkins out of the box.

http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/15546308.htmlooks like Barber will play in the team's nickel and dime packages, and apparently Trotter was in the nickel package. So, McCoy may just be a 2-down linebacker for the time being unless the injuries change things in Philly.

Still looking into this but it looks like Omar Gaither replaced Brian Dawkins in the nickel packages this week. Does not bode well for McCoy's long term value at all.

Like I should drop him for Ruud? Thats what this means eh?
Heh. Up to you. Ruud's an attractive player in dynasty leagues, especially for 2007. But until we here that Quarles is the SLB when Nece is healthy, McCoy is still the better player. At some point, the Eagles aren't going to be in the nickel as their base defense like they've been for the last eight quarters.

Yes indeed. However Im sure you've checked out the recent posts in the Ruud thread. With that on top of the information in this thread who would you lean towards. This has me disapointed in McCoys situation. And Ruuds is only looking brighter. If possible Id like to keep this discussion on a player comparison tone, so not as to send it to the assistant coaches forum :)

Good man. ;) To put it bluntly, Ruud's long-term prospects are significantly brighter than McCoy's based on current information IMO. Short-term is difficult to determine without more information. Assuming you have a solid roster, I'd lean toward Ruud -- MLB, better talent, plays in the nickel.
