General strategy question... From week 5 on, I can't envision him not being the number 1 kicker, would you drop a fringe guy or a second defense to stash him?

Until next Tuesday morning, I'm required by my league to carry two kickers. Prater's my K2. I just might keep him on the squad a couple of extra weeks and drop Justin Tucker instead once Prater's back on the field.

What was he suspended for? Would he potentially be part of the batch of guys who have their suspensions lifted under new drug policy?

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. He tested + for alcohol.

He's back Week 5, correct? Yahoo has him projected to score zero points currently, but they're usually behind on this sort of stuff and a bunch of stupid morons. However, on the oft chance that I'm the moron, I wanted to confirm.

He was suspended 4 games, so he's back Week 6. They've only played 3 games due to the Week 4 bye.He's back Week 5, correct? So is this guy worth a preemptive add this week? His fill-in sure hasn't done much. Obviously Denver will move the ball but I don't think he's, far and away, the #1 kicker. Am I wrong?

His fill in has hit every FG attempted, and forced a touch back in 14 of 16 attempts. I'm worried about this offense producing kicker points. Things should right themselves, but you never know.

Is Prater the new Jason Elam? I guess everybody (still) wants Denver's kicker because of the thin air and bonus points for long field goals. But the PK is meh if the offense scores touchdowns on almost every drive. Having said that...
If you have room and think Prater is an improvement, I'd try to pick up Prater as a FA in week 5. I wouldn't waste a high waiver on it unless your waiver priority gets reset weekly. And I wouldn't be concerned if someone else wasted a waiver and got him first.

I want DEN's kicker. McManus is the guy I want from here to week 16 of all kickers in the league, not Prater.
As a Lions fan, I really hope we jump on Prater though. He'd be $$ in Detroit.

This is bad news for maybe 25 kickers in the league. They'll all be looking over their shoulder (more than they always are). Not many kickers with job security. Bryant, Gostkowski, Hauschka, Vinatieri, Tucker, Bailey, maybe a couple of others. Maybe not even them. One bad week and Prater is on a plane working out.

The Lions are on their 2nd K this year , who went 1-2 on Sunday. It would not surprise me if he's already on a plane.

He was due alot for a kicker this and next year. DEN has alot of contracts coming up.

I don't care what he's already done, I care about what I expect him to do going forward. Kicking at Mile High is a dream, and if last year was any indication, he should have plenty of opportunities this year to be the top K (like Prater was last year)

I think McManus could be one of highest scoring kickers for the remainder of the year.
- 3 home games over next 4 weeks. Home games = High Altitude.
- Great schedule remaining (Arizona, @ NYJ, SF, SD, @ NE, @ Oak, MIA, @ KC, Buff.)
- Kicks for a great offense.
- Already had his bye.
I like to know my kicker can hit from farther than 24 yards out, which is somehow the longest of three field goals Denver has had him try this year. They must think he can to cut Prater, but I'd like to see some evidence of it before I'm willing to start him.

Prater was #2 in scoring last year playing for Denver, which had the best offense in football (maybe in football history). If you look at the top 10 kickers, 8 of them will play for top offensive teams. Occasionally a bad team that happens to kick a lot of field goals will put their kicker in there, but I'll take the kicker on the top offense every time.Stats I see say Denver attempted only 26 field goals in the regular season last year, 26th of 32 teams. NE and BAL had the most attempts at 41. Of course, they were other-worldly on extra points, with 75 attempts, next closest was Cincy with only 53.

Didn't I read he hasn't made/attempted a FG over 26 yards? Seems like he still has a lot to prove. I had him until his bye and then picked up Adam V who I've been quite happy with.
I mean they are just kickers anyway.

Prater is the best kicker in the NFL, I'm sure he will get on some where, but New Orleans and Detroit both seem like great spots and both need a real kicker.

Picked up McManus in both my leagues...

The risk is that a rookie with no big game experience on a Super Bowl contender with a small championship window blows their last chance at a title with a big miss or two in a playoff game.

I read something about them liking McManus and Prater had a three million dollar salary, so those two thing alone could have equalled the end of Prater in Denver.

I picked him up all over as well and spent some decent money to do it. He meets almost everything I look for in a K, except one thing.
1. Elite offense- check
2. Strong leg- check
2. Stadium-check. Domes and Denver are best spots for a K IMO.
3. Schedule- check By schedule I mean he already played his bye week so no need to K shuffle or burn a roster spot later.
4. Decent enough defense to shorten field and give him more chances- jury still out a little but I'd give it a check or pass.
5. Offense that moves the ball well but struggles in red zone-Fail.

How did a kicker battle work out, with a sample size of 2 over 6 weeks? Are you really self-bumping over this?
Gee, I'm not sure. Looks like Prater has scored a whopping 6 fantasy points more than McManus over that time, with McManus missing 3 of 6 field goals. Or in other words, their opportunities for fantasy scoring have been basically identical. And, as I mentioned, five of the top six over that time period are on good offenses (IND/NE/MIA/PHI/GB).
