Matt Thornton - RP Chicago White Sox (1 Viewer)

I'm just not sold on Bobby Jenks. Totally not. Ozzie Guillen even blasted Jenks in the media about a week and 1/2 ago for "not being ready." They are also saying that while Jenks can normally throw the ball in the high-90's .... he's only hitting about 93 mph right now.

Thornton on the other hand is a flame-throwing lefty who posted really solid number last season and acutally just picked up a save tonight. Ozzie put Jenks (current closer) out there in the 8th inning for the hold and then put Thornton in there for the save opportunity and he recorded the save.

The kid has mega potential, has posted really solid numbers this spring (0.90 era, 11 K's in 10 ip), and just got the save opportunity tonight. It could be a sign of things to come for a team that will win A LOT of games this year.

Just keep in mind that Jenks was "blasted" last year around this time as well. Then he went on to save 41 games.

A lot of closers are pitching the 7th or 8th innings right now cause that's the last inning the starters are in.

If Jenks struggles MacDougal will probably step in first.
I thought the same thing also but he has had a miserable spring and word on Chicago message boards and such is that everyone (including Ozzie) LOVES Thornton. And again, I didn't tell everyone to run out and pick this guy up. All I said to do is keep an eye on him. :goodposting:

I agree he should be watched. MacDougal is a timebomb as well and will blow up. Thornton could easily bypass him.

I was gonna pick up Thornton when the DL came out, but a guy on my league already jumped on him this morning. If it's any indication, it's the defending champ in our league; and he's known for being ahead of the curve.

This may be why...http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines

"Don't be surprised if I start the ninth with [lefty Matt] Thornton," Guillen said. "Bobby's still my closer, but I feel comfortable and have enough confidence in Thornton to start that inning."
