 Dallas Buyers Club & Mud was better than expected.

Has their ever been an actor/actress whose had great success in a short span like him?

Never thought I'd see the day where anyone gave a #### about what you think.

Oh wait, that still hasn't happened.
Is it his abs or his eyes that reel you in?
Neither, I thought his performance in Mud was tremendous. Worthy of an Oscar nomination.

And dude was Wooderson.
Mud was fantastic. Looking forward to Dallas Buyers Club.

His acting peak was definitely "How to lose a guy"... He made my heart melt with his playful innocence.

It could've ended there, and it would've been a successful career.

A little bit of both, but the accent seals the deal.
accent? just thought he was a bit slow.

Seriously looking forward to True Detectives on HBO.
Me too. Looks great.

Jon Voight has had an interesting career turnaround. In his leading-man days he was the quiet type, usually giving all the big dramatic lines to his co-stars (Hoffman, Reynolds, Schroeder), but in the last twenty-years or so he has re-invented himself as the overacting, overtalking, over-the-top villain character.

Starting to think you have a thing for this fella...

Saw Dallas Buyers Club yesterday. He absolutely killed the performance. Awesome movie. Jared Leto turned in a hell of a performance as well.

Mud was great as well. Ive liked all his movies, but thought he was just a comedy actor until Lincoln Lawyer. Mud and DBC were another level though. Hope he gets some awards.

That his him literally playing himself and the major league ####### that he is. Hollywood now just uses the preset to a T.

I really like him. Saw Mud, not Dallas Buyer's Club yet. And dude was Wooderson...

James Franco didn't have the initial success that Mcconaughey had but their was a point where he had been around a while and was considered a lightweight.

Since Lincoln Lawyer he's put in a string of good performances - Bernie, Killer Joe, Mud, DBC and Wolf of Wall Street. I haven't seen them but his two duds in there are The Paperboy and Magic Mike.

Have you seen True Detective? He is outstanding in that show in a challenging role. He is basically playing 2 characters. The young detective version of himself that has drug, social-emotional issues and the modern broke down drunk version.

Yeah, he's absolutely killing it.

I didn't see this, but from what I heard he was the best thing in it.

I thought he was great in "A Time To Kill" and "We Are Marshall". "Mud" was really good and "The Lincoln Lawyer" was entertaining. But, looking through all his stuff on imdb, there's a lot of crap mixed throughout.

Just got around to seeing Mud. Interesting movie, McConaughey is great in it. He's on quite the string with Mud/Dallas Buyers Club/True Detective, along with a great cameo in Wolf of Wolf Street.

I used to hate McConaughey. Guy seemed like a d-bag who always had to take his shirt off. Based on his Oscar speech IRL he is kind of a d-bag but he really was fantastic in Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective. He's good at what he does.

His Oscar speech was excellent. It was his golden globes speech that sucked.

And he's always been an excellent actor. He was a kid when he did wooderson. He just chose to get paid for a few years and pile up some money before getting into more interesting material.

Leonardo DiCaprio.
Oscar nominations in 1994, 2005, 2007, 2014. Golden Globe nominations in 1994, 1998, 2003, 2005, 2007 (twice), 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014. Where was the down period?
Absolutely. After titanic I think he was in a bad spot. Best movie of the year, huge $$$ and the lead actor was thought of as almost inconsequential. The man in the iron mask and the beAch were largely flops. Next was gangs which, iirc, didn't do as well as many hoped and was late, cost too much, etc. but it did show he had real chops. Catch me if you can and aviator righted the ship and made him a "serious" actor. But 98 to 2002 without a credible hit (and very little work in the first place) was definitely a down period.
