I'm in the minority on this board, but I'm bullish on Mauer. He could really settle in nicely as the Twins' every day No. 3 hitter without the grind of catching to take away from his at-bats. Some people like to scoff at his HR numbers, but he's one of the league's elite hitters.
They're obviously both elite choices at the position. I just don't see them getting that much more production because of the move from behind the plate. They both already have been getting 600 PA/yr due to games at DH and 1B. There is an argument that they won't be as tired or dinged up if they catch less but that's awfully tough to quantify, especially for Mauer.
