Maurice Clarett is a Bronco (1 Viewer)

oh here comes the discussion. You knew Denver would take a RB, but ahead of Fason and Barber  Nobody will ever figure Shanny out!!

here's what I think:Bell gets hurt two weeks into the season.Clarett runs over fools the rest of the year and finsishes with over 1,000 yards.I mean seriously could clarett in his wildest dreams have envisioned a better oppurtunity than this?

Worst pick in years. Here's what will happen - in camp Clarett will get banged up, he'll sit out a bit, never grasp the offense and then be cut. What a waste of a pick

This guy is all but assured of at least REAL chance to succed in THE RUNNING BACK HEAVEN that is Denver. Who woulda thunk it?

I posted this in the draft thread:

Clarett? You gotta be kidding me! #rd round, Denver? I am absolutely shocked. I know Denver knows how to pick RB's but with all the issues he's had I can't believe he was the guy they wanted. Especially when he could be had in the 4th or 5th. I think they really reached on himThe other problem I see is Clarett's willingness to quit. First time he's told he's running the wrong way or through the wrong hole or that he'll have to sit while Bell's the man, he's likely to quit and pack it in.I hope he makes good on this gift because he has no idea just how fortunate he is to be drafted by Denver in the 3rd round. I hope he does right by Denver.BTW-say goodbye to Dayne!

interesting offseason for Denver, first picks up the underacheiving Ron Dayne, then signs the entire underacheiving Browns Dline, now drafts Clarett ahead of Marion Baber and Ciatrick Fason... maybe they found some secret formula in developing player there in denver

It should be quite hilarious to see how highly Clarett will now be drafted in dynasty league rookie drafts.

In case you've been in a coma for the last ten years, Denver actually has found a secret formula for developing running backs.

Well, this is a shock--the guy has million dollar talent but a .05 mind. I like the pick as it is a win/win pick. What is the worst that can happen? He fails--we trade him to the Raiders next year because they will take him.... :P

The Bronco Running Game continues to be a nightmare! This is the best possible situation for Clarett. Shanny will get it done with him. Portis was not exactly einstein or a choirboy and he got mad production out of him! I trust Shanny more than I trust any of you ham and egger posters (Clarett haters). He sees something. I may take him 4th in my rookie draft!

While this is indeed true, I just can't see the upside of taking Clarett over Fason. Shanny has earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to drafting RBs, however.

This is just typical Shanny trying to show the world that he's a genius...an absolute bust of a pick on a guy who hasn't played in years. Plus, he's still determined to show that he can turn Jale Plummer into an NFL QB as well...good luck Bronco fans, you're gonna need it.

Fason is built like a WR. Clarett has a good chance to bust and a slight chance to be a pro-bowler. In the late third, that's an OK trade-off IMO. I don't see Fason as having pro-bowl upside. I'm a little surprised that Barber didn't go in day 1 though.

That's what I was thinking. This, to me, looks like the very definition of being to smart for your own good.

Perhaps, but he sure doesn't run like a typical WR.

Ahh....with the defenses in our division, it is going to be 35-42 point games every divisional games. Team need all the offensive weapons we can get.

Here is his mad genius plot: :loco: Step 1 - Draft a RBStep 2 - Make him a studStep 3 - Trade him away for high draft picks and/or proven players (Portis, Droughns, Bell next off season)Step 4 - RepeatThis way he never has to worry about picking a stud at another position, he'll just continue to draft backs and trade them away for proven players or higher picks. :loco:

Clarett will have something to prove to the world. He has the talent just needs to have the system..which Denver has. Terrell Davis was not the fastest running back and he did fine. And if he can keep his head on I think he will do fine.

Doesn't have to worry about getting whipped in a SuperBowl Either because he'll never get there again..enjoy broncos fans

Yes, but TD excelled at Denver's staple running play.Stretch, stretch, stretch.... BOOM, ONE CUT AND HIT THE HOLE.

I question whether Clarett is suited to that style of play.

Please tell me this is another one of those coy threads referring to Denver's selection of a special teams guy named Maurice Clarett from some obscure school...

He is this years SOD!
Brewtown, I can see you have high hopes for MO. He does have talent and no one is doubting that. What he also has is major character flaws. What exactly has you convinced he has or will correct them when he keeps making the same mistakes over and over? He lies repeatedly. He quits repeatedly. He has not learned anything from his past mistakes. Teammates & coaches cannot trust him. What have you seen to get excited about?

I know he called out OSU for being a corrupt program, which has earned their ire. But about what did he lie? The only thing I can think of is the issue with the stolen car, but a) he claims (and I've never heard this contradicted) that he was estimating the value, which makes it seem more like laziness than dishonesty, and b) he had NOTHING to gain from lying, again tending to undercut the assertion that he deliberately lied.He does not appear to be mature, but he doesn't seem to be a liar or stupid, two things of which he stands accused.

You should consider apprenticing yourself as an RB scout for the Broncos--I'm sure that Shanahan could use the help.

I am a Colorado native--lifelong Bronco fan, and this pick doesn't upset me that much. It is a reach, sure The main need going into the draft was that the team needed corner help and it (overally) addressed it. Admittedly we also needed pass rushing help.Shanny is a master with the running game--no one can deny that. If he can get value in the 3rd, then take it. All the people saying it was a bad pick--how many of you know that teams were not readjusting their boards and might take this guy before he came back to us.

Why not take a reach on him? I mean it is the 3rd round--what do you have to lose? How many 1st rounders--2nd rounders have been busts? Plenty. A 3rd rounder is worth the risk I say.

What kind of money does the last pick in the 3rd roung get?I have a feeling once he hits any kind of decent payday, he will quit (get lazy and go downhill)

Alrighty then. I guess you cleared that up. You sound like his defense attorney trying to find the good in all the bad he did. :wall: Perhaps if you really knew the details of his story you might feel differently. But then again, maybe not.

I agree that a 3rd rounder isn't a big risk. But this guy isn't your typical risk either. I hope it works out for both of them.

To put a Vegas spin on it....you are checking out of your hotel on the way to the airport. As you are walking to the valet, you find 3 or 4 one dollar tokens in your sports coat--do you take them home with you or do you drop them in a machine? You forgot about them and didn't care about them. If you hit $20.00 or $200.00 with them, all is well. If you lose them, them oh well....This is Clarett--he is a 3rd rounder. He'll cost us next to nothing to bring into camp. If he bombs, then Shanny spins this into him trying to "give the guy a chance". If he fills in one game and rushes for 100 yds and a td and gets us a win, then the gamble pays off.It is only a win/no lose situation....

Like him or not, Jim Brown was in Clarett's corner. Brown is not a liar and he's all about calling out people: Franco Harris for being soft, O.J. Simpson for being a phony thug, etc. I don't think Brown would try to help this kid out if he thought Clarett was simply no good as a person--immature yes, lowlife...another story.

I've been so up and down about Clarett in the last few years, it's gotten ridiculous but there are two things that have me keeping an open mind: New England considered him as a first day pick in 2004 and now this...

I think he's purely seen as a luxury pick for depth and development.
