Maurice Jones-Drew (1 Viewer)

Just wondering....

I have him, and there are a few managers that are sniffing around to see if he is available.

I am curious what his value is from here forward...and not just this year, but next year\as well. I am not sure of what Fred Taylors contract is, so I am not sure if MJD gets the starting nod next year or not.

I sold the farm last year to win my pool, hence the cupboard was bare this year. I didnt have a pick until the 3rd round of a 3 player keeper league, and took a few flyers.

I hit with MJD, Cotchery, and Devery Henderson.

I guess my question is....MJD...stud in the making, or sell this guy for top dollar now?

What are others doing with him?

The last three games he is averageing 12 (offensive) touches with 83 yrds a game and 4 TDs. He has 11 games left, at this pace over the remaining 11 games he'll accumulate 132 touches with 913 yrds and score 14 TDs.

Adjust accordingly

I'm in a keeper league, and I am keeping him through this year and will make my decision on him next August when we need to announce our keepers for next year. That being said, a few facts:Fred Taylor turns 31 in January.Fred Taylor is signed through the 2007 season ($2.55 million) and will be a free agent in 2008 when he will be 32.Maurice Drew is signed through the 2010 season ($2.75 million over 4 years).Maurice Drew is 21 and will be 25 when his current contract runs out.Obviously, no one knows what Del Rio/Jacksonville plan on doing, but Drew has been productive, is 10 years younger than Taylor and is signed for the next 4 years. Taylor is a free agent after next season, and the Jaguars wouldn't be taking much, if any, of a cap hit if they decide to just waive Taylor. I'm not saying they would waive the guy, but Drew and Greg Jones are much younger and I have yet to see a 3 back rotation in the NFL.I am also biased as I have been a Maurice Drew fan since his Junior year of high school at De La Salle in Concord, Ca., so you can take that into consideration, as well.

Not to nitpick, but he is average 90 yards a game total since week3 (185 rushing and 85 receiving). The first two games he wasn't really used much at all. As a semi-starter his average PPG is 15 (A hair over 17 in PPR), so going forward he looks pretty good to me. This is their schedule from weeks 7-16:HouPhillyTenHouGiantsBillsMiamiColtsTenNEThat is a whole lot of attractive matchups for a potent offense and MJD is very talented. If Fred gets injured during that span his numbers could go through the roof with this kind of defensive schedule. I don't think he is going to need that to happen to end up with nice stats as a solid RB2. I know I'm going crazy here, but he may end up putting up marginal RB1 numbers even with only 12 or so touches a game.

taylor isnt signed for next year, he's playing for his next and probably last contract right now.
Yes, he's signed through next year. Here's a list of players that are in their contract years this year:http://www.fftoolbox.com/2006/contract_year_players.cfm

Here's a link stating that he's signed through next year and his salary amount:

Here's a link to his NFLPA player salary structure. He's signed through 2007:

In a PPR, I love him THIS year (30 points throughthe air - 9 rec., 90 yds, 2 rec. TDs) and if you get return yardage, well, he's top-10.

He's top-24 under "normal" scoring and he's past his bye week - I like him as a flex player in non-PPR leagues.

:goodposting: I picked him up early and he's 5th right now in my league that gives pionts for return yards. I'm actually sitting LJ this week against the Chargers and playing MJD. still have to decide between Ronnie and KJ for the other spot....but MJD is playing until he gives me a reason not to.

Depends on whether you're talking about keeper vs. dynasty league and whether you're in contention for this year or not. Is it a ppr league or not? More details might provide the necessary info for better advice. In a 2 player keeper league, I probably won't be keeping him whereas if the number of players you can keep is 5 or more and it's a ppr league then I probably would.

With all the love for this guy, how serious is his foot injury? Did he practice on Thursday? I can see him getting some real quality time this week on the Texans if healthy.

MDJ has been practicing, hes also saying the foot injury isnt anything that would prevent him playing this week. IMO, if was something more serious, I think they would have let him rest it earlier in the week and practice the gp on Thurs.
