Maurice Leggett, CB, KC (1 Viewer)

He started today as the Chiefs began the game in a nickel package. He has scored touchdowns the last two games. I know those don't hold up over time but they do show big play potential. Even w/o the TDs, he has had a really nice six game stretch either subbing for an injured Brandon Flowers or playing the nickel...piling up a lot of tackles and some passes defensed.

Has anyone watched KC over that past six weeks that can give their opinion on whether or not the guy is a flash in the pan? Is he benifiting from being a rookie CB that gets picked on? I haven't seen much of him so any opinions would be appreciated.

Picked on replacement level talent. I think Brackenridge was better but I guess the Chiefs dont. Leggett will be out of the league next year IMHO.

I've seen a little bit of him. He's been a playmaker, could be the Richard Marshall of the midwest :bye: . Both he and Brandon Carr came from Division II powerhouses. Leggett's team (Valdosta State) won the D-II title in 2004 and 2007, while Carr's team (Grand Valley State), won titles in 2005 and 2006.

Back to Leggett, I've had a KC game on one of the TVs a couple times over the last 4-5 weeks, haven't watched very close, but seems like he's around the ball alot.

I think I read somewhere Herm sees alot of himself on Leggett. Herm was a small school UFA also. I really can't help ya out, don't know or seen much of him, but I think he may be more than a flash in the pan.

Evidently he has a shoulder injury that may force him to miss time. Keep an eye on this if you're interested.

An article from Kent Baab - Kansas City Star on Leggett...

Leggett made it through training camp, but that was more about veteran cornerback Patrick Surtain, right? Surtain is 32, and the Chiefs wanted insurance. They slipped Leggett into a spot on the active roster. He always has been at the right place at the right time.

“He was given an opportunity,” said Edwards, who no longer has trouble remembering Leggett’s name, “and he’s taken advantage of it.”

Surtain has been injured most of this season. Kansas City moved Leggett into the lineup as its third cornerback. Tampa Bay knew Leggett was the greenest of the Chiefs’ rookie corners — Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr have been regulars since opening day — and the Buccaneers picked on him.
