Maurice Morris vs Julius Jones (1 Viewer)

FBG still has JJ ranked 12 spots higher than Morris. Is there something I am missing here? Morris seems to be getting more carries than JJ as it is. I know the Seattle offense is pathetic, so I understand the low ranking of them (30's and 40's). But how can you still value JJ higher?

Morris got most of the carries against a bad Niners' defense and looked like garbage. Jones looked awful too but maybe the belief is Morris had his chance to shine and blew it and so maybe the Seahawks go back to Jones, who has been by far the team's most productive RB this season.

I've posted in here about this before but Holmgreens reluctance to feature JJ seems odd. I'd have to ask what more could Julius Jones have done when Morris was out to win the job? He was outstanding and really the only skill player on offense to shine at all this year. It caused me to go back and look at JJ's career in more depth and I came away realizing when he's been the featured back he's been pretty good but when he has to share the load he seems to crumble. Something in him just does not allow him to be part of a timeshare but that's how Holmgreen insists on using him which makes JJ worthless.

I agree. I think Jones should be getting 18-20 carries with Morris getting a couple to keep him fresh. I'm not a Jones owner; I just think it's pretty clear he's a much more talented RB than Morris.

To be fair, any number of hall of fame running backs would have looked like garbage as well getting hit three yards deep in the backfield on multiple carries.

I think they are pretty much the same RB. One is not clearly better than the other. More importantly, I think Holmgren sees them this way as well, and he's the guy that will determine how many touches they each get.

Draw from this whatever you want, but here's the data.

JJ, Morris and Weaver have almost identical YPC this year (4.5, 4.4, 4.5)

Weaver is obviously the better receiving threat out of the backfield, but again, JJ and Morris are almost identical.

RUSHING

Player Att Yds Yds/Att Long TD

Julius Jones 103 468 4.5 32 2

T.J. Duckett 36 105 2.9 29 4

Maurice Morris 27 119 4.4 45 0

Leonard Weaver 15 67 4.5 13 0

RECEIVING

Leonard Weaver 10 159 15.9 62 2

Julius Jones 10 65 6.5 17 0

Maurice Morris 4 25 6.3 8 0

I think what's interesting though is when JJ gets 20 carries in a game his stats are MUCH better than when he splits carries with other backs

What running backs' stats don't look better when they get 20 carries in a game? In most cases, I think that the flow of the game dictates the number of carries for a RB, rather than the number of carries dictates the flow of the game.

And it doesn't hurt when the opponents in those TWO games (SF and STL) completely suck ###.

In the last 3 games Morris got 6, 8, and 11 touches, while Jones went from 12 to 8 to 8. Certainly something to keep an eye on, although I wouldn't want to start either one of them against Philadelphia (#9 rush defense) or Miami (#15).
