I like Levi Brown at the 21-25 ranking. I think too many people are predicting him higher than he should be due to a shortage of talent at the tackle position in this years draft. I am high on Brandon Merriweather but 16-20 seems a bit high.

LT is like QB, there are so few guys out there that can competently play the position that you have to be willing to overlook flaws/take more risk at a pick to get your long term starters than you do for other positions. LT and QB both get the benefit of draft stock inflation because of this.
What happened last year? I see a good case that supply diminished demand, but that isn't sound logic in light of your comments. Certainly McNeill and Justice were/are far better prospects than Levi. Yet, both fall to the 2nd round, behind a center and a guard. Levi gets whipped a lot. His feet seem stuck in mud at the worst times (building pocket depth). That just didn't happen to the above two. Levi is the exact same kind of run blocker as Trueblood and Whitworth... exact same, both of them were better pass protectors by the numbers and on tape.
In this class, because it doesn't have the depth... I too like Brown where Mayock has him. I'm bumping him based on character, lack of competition, and long term potential and he still grades behind 20+ others, imo. I'll flinch for the fans and QB of any team that takes him as high as I have seem him mocked lately (top 10). You know I went a little overboard scouring and scouting last year's OLs. One astute draft observer (more of a historian) told me in the modern era a first round lineman is a player expected to be penciled in as a starter on draft day (DBrick, Mangold, Joseph). A round 2 lineman is a player expected to mature into a starting job in his second year. Brown better be that version of a round 2 lineman even if he goes in round 1, because he really needs time and work to develop. The team making him a round 1 lineman is basically saying our first rounder doesn't need to contribute right away. Many teams have the opposite philosophy these days. It was the rationale behind Parcell's aversion to round 1 OLs, and clearly many teams feel the same way. They want a player with that first pick who helps immediately. Few OLs do.
I'm sure a new version is coming out and Willis will move up very near the top 10 if not in it.
Did you watch Mayock break down tape on Beason? I've liked Beason since way back before he declared, but that was pretty impressive stuff. Great instincts and "NFL" explosion into the ball carrier. Of course, I could put together an equally impressive bit by editing Desmond Bishop's best moments.
No I didn't. I think the Hurricane draftees are getting by largely on the reputation of "The U". And besides, linebackers always seem to slide in the draft. Except Patrick Willis this year, who may be a #2 pick.
This is a terrific point. I can only guess that there was a unanimous bad report about McNeill's stenosis. Justice slipped like just about every other USC player - still not sure what happened there.
