McFadden paternity suit, 2 more on the way (1 Viewer)

Makes all that "he might not enter the draft" talk seem kind of foolish now, doesn't it?

I'm sure thsi wasn't leaked by a team hoping he'll drop to their spot...just like the positive pot tests for Calvin Johnson and Amobe Okoye last year.

As long as he takes care of his kids, it isn't my business and won't keep him from being a solid running back in the NFL.

It certainly raises questions about his judgement and character a la Travis Henry.

calvin and amobi didn't fail any or have any positive tests for marijuana, they told the scouts that themselves on there own to help build up their character. they both admitted to smoking pot while in high school but didn't get caught or fail any tests. Mcfadden's issues are real and are a of high concern if these allegations are true. Is there a good example to go along with the Henry/Kemp nightmares?

Exactly. Darren McFadden did the same thing...he told the teams what his situations is.Who leaked that information? This year (and last year) it is probably a team trying to drop a player's stock in hopes of landing him during the draft.Shawn Kemp had a very productive career and Travis Henry is better than your average running back. I'd be more concerned about drug use and the people a player surrounds himslef with than anything contained in this story.

He has one and two on the way? That is not normal college behavior. If he had one and was on record as a good Dad and/or was committed to his girlfriend, that would show some maturity and wouldn't be an issue. But when you have multiple kids with multiple women that tells you the person is not mature and probably not too smart.

If a few kids out of wedlock is the biggest problem McFadden has, he's got an advantage over quite a few of his fellow top draft picks. Honestly, this is nothing new nor surprising.

I wonder if Jerry Jones had anything to do with this?Dosn't Mcfadden know how to :wall: his stuff!!!!!

No matter who this is ...... it raises questions about character.
Wow...this board is getting conservative. Since when did having kids out of wedlock become a character issue?? The guy didn't use a condom!!! Poor Character = Not paying child support.High Character = Paying your kids child support.Unless people are ready to take the step and say pre-marital sex is sign of poor character, you cannot make this a character issue.

High Character = Paying your kids child support? I would think that is just normal average behavior.

Many single mothers would disagree with your assessment of an average guy. :lmao:

I believe he has passed a paternity test on the claim in the suit. The two on the way are due in two different months, so I doubt they are twins.

I'm a little concerned with how he'll hold up in the strip drill. :goodposting:

Paying child support is the absolute minimum and does not equal high character. Providing your children with a good father is high character.

Point taken..I was trying to make a distinction between having kids out of wedlock and being a person of poor character.

Its sad that people actually feel this way. Apparently you don't have kids. Being a high character guy and a good father involves a lot more than paying child support.

The only distinction I can think of is that a rape took place. Outside of that possibility, there had to have been some horribly irresponsible judgement applied somewhere.

Is it a huge deal? Maybe not.

But having kids by three different women by the age of 20 is NOT a sign of good decision-making no matter how you spin it. The people who put themselves in those sorts of situations tend to make OTHER bad decisions. And while the kids themselves may not impact his career, those other decisions could very well have an impact on it.

Also, it's pretty funny to hear folks seem to imply that this is everyday stuff with all college athletes. It happens, no doubt. But there are lots and lots and lots of excellent college athletes who don't manage to put themselves in this situation. ZERO out of wedlock kids = ideal and pretty common (what - 95%?). ONE out of wedlock kid = not great, but mistakes happen and maybe the guy learned from it (maybe 4.5%?) . TWO kids from different mothers (.4%/?) = hmmm, not so bright is he? THREE kids from different mothers (.1%) = WTF is wrong with this guy?

Not unless you have that ridiculous notion that fathering a child should have a little more involved than your penis.

It is when you have multiple kids with multiple women and have no plans on being a part of their lives. It shows a complete lack of feelings for your own children; to me this is morally wrong. Even though this country doesn't get it, being a father is more than sending a check and visiting occasionally. Actions like this are more in tune with our neighbors dog than a moral human being.

Bad judgement for sure, but give the kid a break. I'd bet some of the mothers were looking for a paycheck for the next 18 years. I mean, let's face it the kid has to be a huge target.

All that being said.......I'd skip on picking him unless he fell out of the top 10. Too much risk.

Not true. Have you read any of the articles on the paternatity tests? Obviously not.He has already taken 1 and it came back negative, though it is not valid in court and he needs to take another. He has already said he wants to know if he is the father more than anyone else. Please dont make broad generalizations about people you dont know ... and obviously dont research.

I agree, I'm not saying it's what I'd want for my life or may not fit into my or someone elses belief system, but it's not going to effect if he's a good football player or not. Shoot, if anything the guy has to work harder now to support.Again, this time of year there isn't a lot to talk about, so something like this, late February is news where later on in the year is a subtopic for a day.

Well, we can all breathe easier in a few months when he's an NFL 1st round pick and isn't a target anymore. :jawdrop:

How about irresponsible and there are other words I could potentially use to describe this situation but don't know him well enough. It's very possible he's not educated properly in sex education, it would be hard to make an argument to say that he was given his current situation. I highly doubt he's stupid.

Wrong...married for 14 years with three boys. My intent was not to define morality but to try to contrast poor character vs high character and how one defines it.I lean to the "religious conservative" side and find it ironic that the vast majority of the posters here would likely say "pre-marital sex" is not a sign of poor character, but will jump to the conclusion that one has poor character because a child was conceived!!

These were my points and not defining "high character". I would definitely agree that it take more then a child support check to be a good father.ETA: I think it would be better to say McFadden has shown poor judgment in possibly fathering multiple children with multiple mothers. Not poor character...

Adrian Peterson had a 2 year old daughter when he entered the draft last year. Don't remember anybody getting too up in arms about that.
