McGahee's salary in 2010: $3.6M (1 Viewer)

Ravens coach John Harbaugh admitted Tuesday that Willis McGahee's 2010 salary of $3.6 million could be a problem when the team makes offseason roster decisions.

Harbaugh says he'd like for McGahee to stay in Baltimore, but the 28-year-old might be the highest paid backup running back in the league. The Ravens may ask McGahee to take a pay cut, though he'd certainly refuse
Will McGahee end up on another team? Like, say, the Redskins?

I guess it's possible but is he better than Portis? I don't think so. I could see the Skins trying to get a little younger there if Portis is gone.

McGahee could be a good transition for the Skins for the next 2 years while they focus on upgrading OL and QB. then when that's set they can draft a young RB.

:) And, yes, at this point he is an upgrade to Portis, who has been done.

I disagree. I think Portis is the better back. I'm betting Portis will be a much better RB next year, whether in Washington with the new zone blocking scheme and rebuilt offense line, or another NFL team that I'm sure will have a better line and play calling than he had the last several years in DC.

portis and shanahan's relationship isn't the greatest... shanahan has gotten rid of him before. (not that trading a guy automatically means you hate him but you know) portis' reputation in the skin's locker room seems to be in question currently and his ex rb coach was talking how hes been slacking in the off season. hes guaranteed something like 7mil this year, but i don't think it's certain he will play... portis has been non-existent at OTA's in the past and shanahan has come in saying publicly that its really important for running backs to attend OTA's and work hard in the offseason, which was obviously a shot directed at portis. i wouldn't be surprised if they did bring in a guy such as McGahee to get them through the next season or two while they draft a rookie in the later rounds of the draft - shanahan style ala terrell davis, tatem bell, ruben droughns and OMG --- clinton portis. if portis is being lax once again this off season, he may not even be on the team to compete to start and because he's guaranteed 7+mil, i'm wondering if theres even a team that would pay that much for him to come play a year for them...

mcgahee still has what it takes and has a couple more years on him. with harbaugh talking like that and ray rice tearing it up this year, it seems likely he'll be looking for a new home.

Could? LOL

McGahee isn't going to see that $3.6 mil, especially when Le'Ron McClain can fill his role in the backfield with little to no dropoff.

While I agree that if McGahee doesn't renegotiate his contract he's gone and the $3.6M has a lot to do with it, his cap numbers for 2011, 2012 and 2013 are $8.75M, $9.25M and $7.5M. Since there will most likely be no cap this year the Ravens will save a ton of future cap space by taking the "cap hit" for cutting him this year.

Agreed, no matter what he's getting cut. It's just a matter of him agreeing to resign at a lower cost or going elsewhere.
