Adam Schefter reported on Total Access that the Saints have been trying to find a way to get Adrian McPherson on the filed after his struggles adjusting to the offense as a QB. He has begun to work out as a WR and kick returner.

 They need to trade him, not squander away his potential like Mora is doing with Vick. *sigh*

Seems to me AM's problem isn't the QB position. He might work out as WR/KR, but he should hold more value to the team as the backup to Brees.

They need to either switch him or keep him at QB. I think he's got a shot at being solid at either, but not if they jerk him around.

This seems odd in conjunction with:

Saints | Payton concerned over quarterback depth during camp

Published Wed Aug 2 2:18:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Larry Holder, of the Biloxi Sun-Herald, reports New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has been disappointed in the play of the team's reserve quarterbacks - QB Todd Bouman, QB Adrian McPherson and QB Jason Fife - in camp, particularly in the area of passing accuracy. "These other three guys, I'm waiting to see something," Payton said. "Their location and their ability to target and throw the ball accurately on a consistent basis is a necessity at their position."

I'm all for college QBs like Matt Jones, Brad Smith, & the like switching to WR in the pros, but McPherson seems to have too much potential as a QB to move him now.

Then again, maybe he's looked absolutely horrid. My guess is Payton isn't satisfied with their QB2 & it's causing him to get impatient with McPherson. If I were Payton, I'd get a decent backup somehow (maybe Kerry Collins?) & keep McPherson @ QB3 until he takes the next step. If he doesn't develop, then make the switch next offseason.

Jaime Martin was signed to be the backup, and should easily win the job. He hasn't been in camp so far for "personal reasons". He was expected to return some time today.

Not a good sign for AD. He's athletic but I don't remember him ever taking reps at another position even in practice at FSU. You'd think that if he was showing much at all at QB they'd be trying to build upon what he has shown and keeping him there b/c he's so raw, rather than doing this.

i think it's just an excuse to get him on the field. everyone knows what a tremendous athlete he is. he's buried on the QB depth chart. part of the problem is his game experience. putting him on the field - in whatever capacity - keeps his focus on football. if something happens that he should somehow be the PR/KR then great. i doubt it considering lewis, stallworth, stecker, mcafee and the great reggie bush are slotted to that duty. it's just to settle him, i think.

I've only gone to one practice so far (possibly will get to go tomorrow afternoon), but I think that Payton is just trying to light a fire under all the back-ups. Brees has shown enough that Payton is assured he has a starter and he already expects Martin to be the back-up so these three (Fife, McPherson, and another?)have had ample opportunities to show something and none has.

We all know McPherson is teh best athlete and if you're competing for third string QB, you'd rather have the stud athlete with potential than just another third team QB. That's the way I read this. I would much rather have Lewis, McPherson, or even Stallworth or Hass return punts if they are capable than risk Reggie. Those cover boys are flying and the injury potential is severe.

And, Martin is older than most realize (36 years old) since he was a rookie in 1996.http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/MartJa00.htm
J. Martin practices during afternoon session Wednesday Published Wed Aug 2 11:42:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) The Associated Press reports New Orleans Saints QB Jamie Martin returned to training camp in time Wednesday, Aug. 2, to participate in the afternoon practice. Martin was excused last week to be with his wife, who underwent an operation for breast cancer. Martin said his wife would move with him to New Orleans where she will continue her treatment during the regular season. Payton said it was good to have Martin back and that he is not concerned with Martin being behind after missing nearly six days of training camp. Payton added, "He's a pretty sharp guy. It will be a matter of a day or two. We had him in the offseason so the installation (of the new offense) to him will be familiar."

this sounds like the correct answer.
