Meachem a Sneaky Play this Week? (1 Viewer)

If Reggie Bush and Lance Moore are both out, given how he has found the endzone and the Bucs tendency to give up big passing TDs, how good a play is Meachem this week?

Who would you start him over? I am considering starting him over Lee Evans or Roddy White (depending on injury report for White).

"Saints RB Reggie Bush(notes) had been on a tear as of late, scoring five TDs in his last five games. However, it looks like his run could come to an end this week. A knee injury forced Bush to miss the entire week of practice, and while he’s officially listed as questionable, reports are that he’s unlikely to play this Sunday in what would have been a favorable matchup at Tampa Bay. That only helps RB Pierre Thomas(notes), who should pick up the slack and makes for a must-start in all formats. Also for New Orleans, WR Lance Moore(notes) (ankle) once again has been ruled out."

:no: I have a similar situation, I'm considering starting Devery Henderson over Brandon Marshall due to the Orton injury. Its just such a crap shoot as to who Brees will target each week.

Well, I figure that either Meachem or Henderson will put up good numbers this week. You know Colston will get his and probably Shockey. But this team can usually sustain at least three receivers who put up big numbers, and going against Tampa that seems very likely. So, if it is either Henderson or Meachem, I figure we have a 50% chance of getting at least one TD and 60 yards or more.
 
I am debating starting Meachem over Donald Driver. The upside for Meachem is huge and I can also see the Packers having a hard time preventing the 49ers from disrupting the passing game.

Might have to swing for the fences here.

 
After hearing the news that Bush and Moore are out, I decided to play Meachem over Nate Washington.

If your alternative is someone as marginal as mine, might as well go for it.

 
I think Meachem makes a good gamble with no Bush or Moore. I wouldn't bench guys like Driver for him though. The passing game still has plenty of other targets with Colston, Henderson, Shockey and Thomas/Bell out of the backfield.

 
I was kind of thinking Pierre and Bell would reap the benefits.

I have Meachem and was high on him before the year, and I got a great start out of him last week..... but, 0-2 catches per game all year except for one. Chancey business that.

I also agree Colston could return to putting up big numbers this week.

Well, yeah with Steve Smith NYG on bye, compared to Lav. Coles and Lance Long, which were my choices, and considering that I would not have been at all surprised if he had had 1 for 20, I'd say it turned out pretty well.

When Moore and Bush are out, the TEs do well. That's who takes over the short pass routes.Boost Shockey and even David Thomas - although I like Randy McMichael as a better sleeper TE this week.

just speculation here but...Devery Henderson-WR- Saints Nov. 21 - 7:59 pm et

Beat writer Jeff Duncan "guesses" that Devery Henderson will return punts for the Saints Sunday.

With Reggie Bush, Tracy Porter and Lance Moore both out, the Saints will likely turn to Henderson. It would be dangerous to use Pierre Thomas or Darren Sharper for health reasons. Henderson has never returned a punt in his NFL career.

Interesting that Meachem isn't returning punts. He could be in for a big day. I'd take a chance on starting him if I didn't have a solid option.

Not really. Alot of people considered Meachem a good call this week. Someone had to catch those short passes. Really, just knowing that moore and bush were out was enough to consider Meachem a good play.

Thanks guys. On the year Meachem has 6 TDs on only 16 receptions; that's a TD percentage of 37%. Last year he had 3 on 12, a 25% rate. So, the bottom line is that you know if he catches a pass he actually gives you a good chance of scoring a TD. If he catches 3 or 4 it's almost a certainty. I think if Moore is out again Meachem is becoming a good start.
 
Again, both Moore and Bush were out this week. It seems like teams are scheming to stop Colston and Meachem and Henderson are the beneficiaries. If Moore or Bush return to the starting lineup, however, i would rethink starting Henderson or Meachem. Certainly if both come back.
