Meachem has knee surgery (1 Viewer)

Yesterday, Robert Meachem had knee surgery, but is expected to fully recover for training camp. I didn't follow Tennessee much, but did he have this problem in college? Do you think this hurts his fantasy value at all, and if so, where does it rank him with the other rookie WR's drafted in April?

IMO his value depends on whether it's redraft or you're counting on him to produce this year on a dynasty team (be a starter or bye week WR). If so, then his fantasy value has definitely taken a hit because of his lost time in OTAs and lower likelihood that he'll be the WR2 for NO in week 1. For redraft, I'd probably take CJ as WR2 (depending on who else was available). I don't know if I'd draft any of the other rookies as my 3rd WR (if I had to start 3 WRs) -- maybe Bowe or Jarrett. As a long-term dynasty investment for next year and beyond, I don't think Meacham's value has changed much. He may continue to have injury problems or even bust totally, but that's the risk with all rookie WRs (except maybe CJ). I still have him ranked as the #2 rookie WR this year based on a combination of talent, opportunity, and team situation (Brees, etc.), and I don't remember any WR drafted in the last 3 years that's had a better combination (except CJ). But I'm willing to write off any production from him this year.

This problem caused him to miss a season in college. It's a meniscus injury, and the tear is causing torn cartilage to get caught in the joints when he runs. This is the type of injury that should be fully recovered. The problem is, he likely won't be anywhere near game shape by training camp, so can he get into shape in time?

What's the peckign order in NO if Meacham is healthy??

Colston

Meacham

Henderson (slot- 3rd down guy)

fixed again......

Any pecking order begins with Bush, then Colston, then everyone else.

It seems obvious that Henderson will start the season as the #2 WR. Meacham is behind the 8 ball with this injury. Rookie WR's need to be on the field as much as possible. He will be the #3 WR or possibly the #4 WR early in the season.

Meachem injury history is rpetty well spelled out in another thread here if ya feel like searching
