Melvin Ingram Injury Updates? (1 Viewer)

I heard that Melvin Ingram is eligible to return and the Chargers want to ease him back. Any word on a timeframe and what kind of performance to expect?

This is what I found so far.

Melvin Ingram is eligible to rejoin the Chargers in practice.

That doesn't mean he will. At least, for now.

The outside linebacker was sidelined from practice and games the first six weeks of the season, as required for players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. He can return to practice anytime today through Nov. 19, but he won't this week.

He is not considered ready at this time, a team source said.

Ingram is known to be optimistic about returning this year from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The 24-year-old suffered the left knee injury on May 14 and is less than five months removed from May 21 reconstructive surgery.

An offseason rule change makes Ingram's return more feasible than it'd be in years past

In 2012, a PUP player was similarly required to be sidelined the first six weeks. He then had a three-week window in which he could start practicing. After a practice period not to exceed 21 days, the team was required to either activate him to the 53-man roster or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

Ingram is not required to practice these first three weeks. He has five instead, a wider window that takes him through the first day after Week 11 concludes, or Nov. 19.

The pass rusher's return, if possible, would be welcome.

For now, it will wait.
