MERGED thread to talk about Peyton's performance in the Super Bowl (1 Viewer)

Serious question... I don't get it.

I started a thread basically asking if you downgrade him all time bc of this performance and it is locked...

The Eli/Peyton thread locked...

I'd love a mod to just clarify the reason for this please.

I'm honestly shocked at how bad he played... My money was on Den and I thought that Manning would dominate.... Can't believe what I have just watched.

Okay, lock thread.

They're busy trying to harvest all your alias'.

I don't know. But I do know that if it were Brady losing tonight the threads would not be locked.

After tonight I can't put Manning in the same class as Montana, Brady, or Elway...

He's battling in the next tier with Young, Marino, Favre, & maybe a few others.

I was honestly hoping to talk about Manning getting the monkey off his back tonight. He's a good guy and great for the game. He played very tight tonight. Too intense at times? Who knows, but it's an interesting conversation.

Thanks for still having me on ignore too HUCKS!

I asked before the Pats/Broncos game, if DEN beat NE but then got hammered in the SB, would that really add to Manning's resume and detract from Brady's. Now that that's happened, of those two, whose stock went up or dropped after this post season?

That first Manning pick looked ugly, but the bottom line is that Manning ran into a buzzsaw tonight.

When those cheesey D. Thomas screens that usually go for huge yardage against chump AFC opponents got stuffed you knew it was going to be a long night.

I don't think anything changes with Manning's legacy, but as usual, the QB will take more of the blame than necessary here.

They both remain the same.

Both are about the same. I'd say both are still two of the best three or four quarterbacks ever, without question.

What has Brady won lately?

Tough question. This post season, you'd have to say Manning's stock took a much bigger hit than Brady's. The Pats were playing with house money and were long shots, and Brady really didn't play that badly in the loss. Manning had higher expectations and played really badly tonight. But as for who has the higher stock right now, I'd say Manning. I think he is playing overall at a higher level than Brady and is more likely to win a Superbowl in the next two years.

+1 I would say too cerebral, as opposed to too intense. Too far inside his own head instead of just settling into a flow state.

In before the forehead jokes.

OK. I'll play along. What has Peyton won lately?
AFC championship - Brady?
Good answer. Ill add...league MVP.

Been to 3 straight AFC championships including this year with a team that was a M*A*S*H unit.

And before people get on me, I have always felt PManning was a better QB. But the sentiment by a number of people in the threads from a few weeks ago was that Manning beating Brady was some crowning achievement, but since he didn't win the SB how great was him winning the AFCC and then getting stomped in the SB?

Peyton had a chance to cement his legacy and he just looked awful... Like absolutely terrible!!!

Wherever you had him ranked prior to tonight, you have to bring him down 2-3 spots.

His left tackle was out (been out all year) and he was playing against an elite defense. Their OL was atrocious and Seattle's DL was dominant. That was the biggest difference in the game. Blaming Manning is just lazy analysis.

Brady's went down, Manning's stayed right where it's always been as long as you don't listen to people who don't know what they are talking about. This performance by. manning is very similar to what I have seen throughout his career, this post season is the same as all the rest but the 1 he did win.

Tom Brady is the guy who was trying to chase Monatana as best QB ever but now has multiple SB losses and is coming up short against P Manning, a chronic playoff loser in big games.

Both QB's will go down as great but in the last 2 to 3 years, both have dropped considerable when compared to Montana and that's who we were comparing them to not so long ago. Please do not put either in Montana's level and whoever wants to argue who's better between Brady and Manning can do so until they''re blue in the face. When these two upright QBs get pressured by a front line, they make mistakes just like anyone else. Watching Manning have to run and throw, get hit and throw all game was brutal. And to think NE didn't even get 1 hit on Manning all last game, how pathetic is the NE defense!

Manning couldn't handle a bad snap on the first play, safety, followed by a three and out and then his first interception. He had another interception that was tipped, a fumble lost, and twice turned the ball over on fourth and short. He led the highest scoring offense of all time to a grand total of one score.

Seattle played a great game, and lots of denver players didn't. But manning was one of them. Its not an indictment on his marvelous regular season career, and he's clearly one of the greatest of all time. But this is yet another data point in a pattern of poor individual postseason performances that span his entire career. Its part of the package you get with him.

At one point, people blamed the colts teams for not being good enough, even though he played with a ridiculous collection of offensive talent his entire career. But now we've seen that you can literally give him his choice of any team in the nfl, a great young set of receivers and let him pick the best receiver off his biggest rivals team, a good defense that got better as the season went on, and spot him a game against an 8-8 team that snuck into the playoffs followed by a home game against a patriots team that was absolutely decimated on both sides of the ball, and you still get this. There's no excuses left. He is what he is. An incredibly talented, cerebral quarterback who, for whatever reason, has played really badly in the playoffs once he ran into any kind of adversity.

Absolutely one of the all time greats. Absolutely not at the top of that list.

Meh, excuses. We can pay a QB HALF of what Manning gets and get the same result in this game. The point in paying him all that $$ is NOT to have him set all kinds of meaningless records in the regular season, but rather to "raise all boats" as he supposedly does.

Yes, I am a pissed Bronco's fan right now.. but Manning just doesn't have 'it'. Yes, the team ##### the bed as the game progressed, but he just has no sense of pocket awareness apparently and his passes (many un-incumbered) were garbage in general.

I hope this game kills the concept of the finesse offense, it doesn't work... at least not with happy feet Manning.
