Message Board vs Staff (1 Viewer)

David Dodds

Administrator
But with some changes.

Full information coming Monday/Tuesday:

1. The FBG staff (Dodds, Wood and Gray) is going to select the Message Board team. We think that makes the most sense going forward. Tick, by winning last year, gets an automatic bid onto the MB team.

2. Similar to how we did things the first year, we are going to create a special thread where everyone gets to state their case on why they should be selected. Everyone will have 500 words. They can link to past posts, etc. Only people posting in this specific thread will be considered. This post will debut Tuesday and run for a week.

3. Twelve message board spots (Tick has 1) are up for grabs here. Additionally two more message board posters will be selected as evaluators and grade the drafts. An alternate will also be selected in case someone can not draft at the selected time.

4. Because the website already has extensive player writeups, our goal this year is to really delve into strategy discussion. From a pre-draft plan, to execution, to changing gears, to maximizing value via handcuffs, to why you are high on a player or situation, bye-week management, etc. With so many experts all laying out their strategy, we hope to create a blue-print on how to win these survivor-style leagues.

5. The league will be PPR scoring. We are hopeful that by having it in this format, we can collectively get some good ADP info for WCOFF style drafts.

Haven't quite paid my dues on this board in particular, but crossing my fingers for a relative newbie like me to be considered for such a contest.

:hey:

Tick gets a free Ticket to ride. This should put an upTick in Tick's mood. He'll be Tickled instead of Ticked off. No more Ticking time bomb.

:bag:

Terrific news and I hope I have the opportunity to participate. But regardless, it's always great for the board to get some friendly competition going between the staff and the message board.

That isn't in haiku format.
I've never done a haiku. If I just did one, it was an accident and I apologize. All I know about haiku is it sounds like a sneeze, or like someone is swearing in Japanese. "Haiku."

"Yeah? Well haiku you too, buddy!"

Interested to see the format since 16 MB participants doesn't appear to equate into true WCOFF format. Not to mention the fact that it is survivor.

I was thinking about that as well. The ADP data won't really transfer because of the differences in league size, especially when you factor in the survivor components too. Still more interesting with 1 ppr imo.

Brainfart here. 2 leagues of 12 each (24 total spots - 12 staff, 12 message board)

I can't wait for the I'm So Great Because / Begging / Kissing Up thread to open. Always a fun read.

I'm just going to say "Pick me!" 250 times.

speaking of Haiku...who ever did win that thing anyway??? As for this I am available to be the no-name that surprises everybody.

I may be interested after learning how the league is run. I'm not sure I get how you determine a winner and such yet, but it doesn't hurt to throw my name out there I guess. <other than assuming some of the staff isn't too fond of me> :bag: :P

Good to hear it. And great idea letting the staff pick the message board participants; I would be looking for any edge I could get if I were you.

"Quick honey, go create a username on our website, and we'll use you as one of the 'participants' in the message board vs. staff competition!"

How will the MB be able to talk w/out the mods looking?

Edit:

(Quote)over/under on # of views this thread gets by monday?

Mu guess. 6:00am Mon 1878. 11:59pm Mon 3000.

There are other boards than these.............................

I'd love to have a chance to join this league. I've been a board member for three years, and wrote two articles published by FBG. Additionally, I was a game reporter for FBG for a year. Finally, I co-hosted a fantasy football show on a 50,000 watt station in San Francisco for three years.

Here's a link to my FBG article.

I also participated in a league last year frequented by many of the regulars here, including EBF, LHUCKS, radballs, jurb26, etc.

Hats off to Dodds and Co. It's nice to see you can be open minded enought to do the right thing by having this again this year.

Now I just have to hope your're open minded enough to pick me! :P

It is helpful to one's case if he can follow instructions :D :

But I'm curious, jdoggydogg.... I'm a Bay Area guy, what show did you co-host? Maybe PM me and tell me who you are?

Might even show the wife Mr. Tickles in celebration.

David - very interesting idea. Considering that there are hundreds of people here who think they should be on the MB team, I have a few suggestions:1) Anyone chosen for the MB team should be a SUBSCRIBER

2) Anyone chosen for the MB team should have a good history of posting in The Shark Pool, and/or drafting in SSLs, MBSLs or have a strong track record in WCOFF (or similar formats) if the aim is to learn from 12 team, ppr drafts

3) Each of the 12 MB drafters should set up a separate thread (probably in Mock Draft Thread) where a group of other board members could discuss strategy and picks, working like a team (helps the drafter and gets more people involved). Of course the staff drafters would agree not to go there spying or looking for help.

4) The winners of each league this year, whether staff or MB should receive an entry to a WCOFF satellite in 2007. Those "sponsored teams" could then have their own threads next year to educate and inform.

I co-hosted the Fantasy Football hour on KNBR 680 with Larry Krueger. Now that Krueger GOT fired for comments about Phillipe Alou and the Giants' Caribbean players, the show doesn't exist. But we are talking about a new show on his new station, KHTK in Sacramento.

 If jdoggydogg gets in I will PM him my thoughts and picks.Wait. That might not be a good thing.

Just making sure everyone remembers... I was the runner-up in the first league FBG's did like this when I was a member of the Blogger team. The following year I won the Survivor league which was coined Survivor II. Last year I was not in consideration as I was not granted a definite spot... dont know why I was not considered the captain or anything. This year would be fun to once again make the finals and win the thing. Survivor leagues =

I think every person who submits to the contest should have to place a vote for another person they feel should be in as well.

I actually agree on that. If it's the MB against the staff again, why not let the MB pick their team? Or, we could do it the easy route, and just let Tick do it all... :blackdot:

As I mentioned in my PM, I know Larry a little bit. Good guy. And IMO he was screwed unfairly by KNBR.

I'm happy to pass that buck.

I am all for racial sensitivity, but most people in the world have said something they wish they could take back. The difference is that Krueger said it on air.

J Dog,Keep me updated on this. I live in Sacto and listen to KHTK 1140 5-6 hours everyday Mon-Fri. I'd love to hear the show and if you need any help or assistants I'd be interested with that also. I'd love to see an FF show on our local sports station here.
