MFL Best Ball! How did you finish? Insights? (1 Viewer)

I did these for the first time this year. Did 9 drafts from June 1st until late July/early August when I switched my focus to H2H.

Anyway, I won 2 of them! So I basically doubled my money. Every team but the ninth finished top 6 (the ninth draft came in 7th).

The last two I did were using the RotoViz "Montee Carlo" strategy. Turned out to be complete BS. Like any draft, you have to hit on good players I believe at the top and hit on a big sleeper. My one winner was in tenth place after 6 weeks but blew up due to Anderson who I took I believe in round 17. My other winner had Manning and Sanders and Gronk as my best guys.

Curious about any others insights into these.

One last thing: all of them were 10 dollars except the last which was a 25 because I got suckered into thinking that RotoViz thing was the Holy Grail LOL. I think it's probably hard as hell to,win one of these and would never bet more than 10 bucks on them. I do play in higher H2H leagues on MFL.

I did five MFL 100s, finished no worse than 4th, finished 2nd in one and 1st in two.

I agree you have to hit on the right players, but there was a great article here on footballguys that I followed as a blueprint. Yes, that's a total plug for someone to become an insider - I'm not affiliated with these guys at all but I've been a subscriber for about ten years and articles like that really do make a huge difference. I did get burned by the two kicker recommendation in that article in two leagues as two of my kickers got cut during the season (oops), but other than that I basically follwed the strategy they outlined in terms of when to fill certain positions, how to build a good overall team composition and what to do in the later rounds.

Another thing that really helped me out was the QBBC articles. Since it's best ball, pairing up QBs in terms of schedule really helped out a lot this year.

I would highly recommend these leagues for people who draft well but don't have the time to manage a lot of leagues throughout the season.

10 10s, won 1 so it will be a wash. My 3rd through 6th round picks were universally awful.
Same here. Totally worth the fun of the slow drafts that occupied my time for a month before the real draft season started. Finished 2nd or 3rd in a few others so I was close. I also won a MFL Zero, which was a free one and I think the prize is a free entry into a MFL 10 next year. Will definitely be doing another 10 or so next year.

i did well in these taking a few workhorse backs early, loading up on wr late, and taking 3 qb late. i took 3 out of wilson, romo, cutler, roeth, rivers, in almost every draft. i avoided wr in the early rounds for rbs but took more wr late to make up for it.

strangely, it was the opposite of my strategy for season long ww redraft leads which loaded up wr at the expense of rb.

I entered 5, Won 2, finished 3rd twice and 4th once. I'm probably going to enter a lot more next year. I also won 2 of the 5 draft only BB leagues I entered on Phenoms (ugh) and also did really well in draft only BB leagues last year. I think I'm a much better drafter than I am an in-season manager.

I entered the free leagues they offered and won 1 of 5. Lost one by less than 5 points.

The leagues that lost were because of guys like EJ Manuel, Nick Foles, Cord Patterson, Marvin Jones, etc...

In one league I had Manuel, Bradford, and Foles. That makes it tough. I'm wondering if it would be better to draft 4 QBs next year if I do this type of format again. Such a pivotal position. ...or maybe even draft the back-up to your QB as insurance...

Played one for the first time and somehow won it. Forte in the 1st and I wanted to experiment so I took Manning in the 2nd, something I would never normally do (take a QB that early) but it paid off. My first WR off was Allen in the 3rd. Basically carried by Peyton, Forte, DeSean Jackson, Gates, and Olsen....also only had one D, the Pats...lucky.
