MFL pushes "early Bird" league discount deadline back... (1 Viewer)

Due to the uncertainty over the 2011 NFL season, we've decided to extend our early bird discount deadline indefinitely, until the NFL and NFLPA are able to work out their differences. Once there is a resolution to the NFL labor situation, we will announce when our early bird discount is over. See this FAQ for more details on our policy as it relates to the 2011 NFL season.
Incredibly generous and considerate of them, as well as a good business decision. I for one am not even considering plopping down the $60-70 for my league until I see a resolution come about. Not sure if all league commissioners saw this yet or not - just came in my email this morning.

I am not a commish, but have used their site for 6+ years now and can't say enough good about it. Very classy move on their part as I am sure it kills their wallet.

I already paid for my 4 leagues. I see no downside to paying now and getting the early bird discounts. If there is no season my 2012 season is already paid for. If there is a season I already got the discount. If you wait and there is a season you miss out on saving $20 per league.

How do you know this? Does MFL state that this is the case?

Yes - see the FAQ referenced above, where it says this, in part:

In the event there is a lockout or a strike that results in the season being canceled, your payment in 2011 will be applied to your league in 2012. In the meantime, MyFantasyLeague.com will still be up and running as usual, even if there is no season, so that you would have full access to your league as needed all year round to conduct transactions and use the league message board and any other league functions as needed. For those concerned about missing our early bird discount deadline, which is June 10th, we will extend the discount deadline if the NFL still hasn't resolved the lockout issue by then. Also, our regular refund policy is always in place, so if you purchase a league now, and then decide not to use it in either 2011 or 2012, then you can request a full refund anytime until four weeks after kickoff of the season, whenever that may be.

We've been hosting at MFL since 2007 and have only good things to say. The MFL price and features cannot be beat. Here's a link you can use from FootBallGuys.com to save an extra $10 off your MFL league.

Feel free to use MFL league number "34801" as a *referral*. Thanks :)

I play in another league that uses CBS and that league pays like $160+/season for their website. Ouch!

My concern is that the season starts late, and we only get an extremely partial season on the books (say like a 8 game season).

While I see this as extremely unlikely, I don't know if we would even want to play our season out, and I certainly would not want to pay full price for the league site for a shortened season like that. I mean, that would be essentially a 5-game regular season in order to have the standard 3 week playoffs. Would that be even worth it?

I would take a vote of my members, but we may just "let it ride" until next season in that case.

Still, with this policy in place, I have a choice of waiting and still being eligible for the discount. There is no advantage whatsoever in have already paid, like the previous poster said.

I think it sucks that the league and players put ancillary (am I using that word right) businesses in jeopardy like FBG and MFL and beyond. But I guess that's the cost of business.

Does it have a customizable bid system where you pick up players and put in the amount you are bidding and no one else can see it until the process day. an example. Need 1 RB. Bid $1 on Smith, and $0 on Jones and $0 Williams. Someone else bids $2 on Smith and gets him and I get Jones because no one bid on him. Then the Williams bid is ignored. We use CBS and need it to act the same way that sites bid process works.

You would recommend switching then? Also, we have the starting lineup and reserve lineup where the reserves points are the tie breaker.

So if the season is only 8 games are you going to just fold up your shop and go home and not play fantasy this year because you don't want you and your league mates to pay $5-6 each ? You think everyone paying $3-4 will make it worthwhile to play a season out ? So your going to throw your entire season because you don't want to pay an extra $2-$3 ?Ok have fun doing all the stats by hand. At least you saved a few bucks.

I have been using MFL for the last seven years and am quite happy with them. I just signed us up for a 2011 league yesterday. I will assume that they will be in business next year if there is no 2011 NFL season. And even if there is a shortened season I can't see any FF fanatic not ponying up the money for his league anyway.

MFL is superior to any product I've used. I'm glad they extended the deadline. I have been doing a lot of work on my 2011 site already.

I don't care if they charge $100 or more, there is no way I will go back to the stone-age and do stats by hand.

Who said anything about doing stats by hand? If the season is that short, then we simply will hold off the league for a year, most likely. Rollover league fees paid to 2012, and come back for that season. It is about flexibility, which you lose by paying early when the status of the season is unpredictable.

Our league is with RealTime Fantasy Sports and we couldn't be happier either. Between the number of options and the fact that they keep their price the same every year, we'll never need a reason to look elsewhere. They've also been very open to our suggestions and have even made some of them each year as they continue to grow.

We were definitely satisfied with their pricing policy this year given the current state of affairs in the NFL. They had their Early Bird Discounts as usual (20% if paid by June 30th, 10% by August 15th) and have even added a 10% Lockout Insurance Discount. We paid early and got a total of $27 off. The 10% Lockout Insurance was in addition to all other discounts, and referral credits.

Their customer service staff also informed us that if there is no football in 2011, our league will already be paid for in 2012, or we can request a refund of course.

Also, our league is setup on their site with the ability to have the Team's Bench Points as the tie-breaker; works everytime!

We have had a 10% lockout insurance policy in place all year. This is ON TOP OF any other discounts we provide -- including loyalty and early-bird discounts. The extra 10% discount will continue until there is a resolution to the lockout.
