Pardon any duplication....I'm sure all this was talked to at great length in the game thread/etc but don't have time to go through all that and just curious what some of your (brief) impressions were, ie:

- LMAO @ Saban. I can't believe a guy that sharp made such a boner move on the challenge. "They said they didn't see it," Saban said. "Whose fault is that?" uhhh that would be you coach.

- Polymoo (whatever, PIT guy) continues to be a monster safety. GDB PIT one-upping the Colts in drafting him that year. (I knew I shoulda paid one more dollar for the PIT D in my auction draft)

- Porter = early nominee for ##### of the week. Just make the play and get off the field mr "everybody looky me" man-child. What a putz. Had a great game though.

- Again I know it's likely overreaction based on only 1 game but Nate Washington IMO looked really sharp.

- GDB an entire HALF HOUR of supercircus freakshow pre-game BS. I thought I switched on a replay of the SB by mistake. :X

- Jury of course out but seems to me people have underestimated Culpepper's loss of mobility. My impression at least.

FWP looks solid. He's no fluke and will have a big year barring injury.

Miami is going to be good but Pepper is still Pepper (ie a turnover machine).

Ronnie Brown ran strong and didn't take any plays off. He's going to put up big numbers this year.

Pitt Run D is as good as last year. They are everywhere. Dolphins have holes in the secondary but I thought the run D was decent.

All of the radio stations were telling people going to the game they needed to be at their seats by 8:00. This made traffic a lot worse than normal. And all that crap for the pregame that was in the open end of the stadium (and main gate) made getting to your seat a nightmare.I am glad this isn't an every week thing (although I wouldn't mind opening the NFL season again next year)

I guess I'll just have to remember that any time you have any game that is "special" in some way (first game of year, SB, holiday game, whatever), don't even bother turning on the TV till about a half-hour after the actual stated kickoff time.

I guess you did. He actually made some fantastic moves for a big man and I don't think he ever went down on first contact, consistently getting extra yards he shouldn't have gotten on every carry. If you just look at stats you wouldn't realize what a fantastic all around game he had (he looked good receiving as well as blocking). I promise you he graded out very well.

Don't hate on Joey... FWP showed nice patience instead of just running real fast all the time, picked his holes then burst through them, big imporvement over last year.

Culpepper will get his fantasy points this year, he will have some games with multiple picks, but he will have his share of monsters with all the talent they have on O, tough night to come back on.

Ronnie Brown will be a stud IMO, runs hard, is on the field all the time, involved in the passing game and has a nose for the end zone.

Steelers will hopfully use Heath Miller more this year, but I think the WRs corp as a whole is better than last year, Washington looks like a really good 3WR, and Holmes showed nice concentration grabbing that catch on the crossing pattern.

Steelers better get their #### together on ST.

- I thought both Willie Parker and Ronnie Brown looked good, despite Brown's lack of running yards.

- I thought Pittsburgh's pass rush on Culpepper wasn't that impressive.

- I thought Dante's throws were sometimes inaccurate and that he never really showed that he could, in fact, run. I also thought the late game mistakes were typical.

- I thought the Miami D giving up 3 TD's to Batch is pretty poor. You can't blow a coverage like that on the tight end.

Yep. That, and seeing how Culpepper looked were my two major items to focus on in that game. Some other observations:WR Wes Welker (Dolphins) looked solid......though I'm still not sure he'll offer more than a "feast or famine" type of output. Almost like a Wayne Chrebet or Brandon Stokley type of mold though....not size or other measurables, per se, but in how he seems to be used.WR Nate Washington (Steelers) looks as though he could be the real deal in a season or two (dynasty). Miami's running game looked horrible, IMHO. Those two TDs bailed Ronnie Brown out last night, but otherwise that game would make me REALLY nervous if I were a Brown owner....even though the Steelers will be one of the tougher run defenses they see this season.WR Santonio Holmes was not impressive at all. He's just a rookie out there playing his first NFL game, but he seemed to be struggling mentally with lots of little things. Catching that punt and trying to return it from inside the 5 was the icing on the cake. Neither team looked all that impressive to me last night, though it is just the first game of the regular season and the Steelers D really turned on the jets in the fourth quarter. Still, neither team looked like the "elite of the AFC" to me, though the Steelers were a lot more impressive in the second half.

I don't disagree with your other points, but this is crazy to criticize him for this at this point. He's only 9 months removed from an injury that, if it didn't end his career, would have cost him most if not all of this season circa 10 years ago. It's an amazing feat that he's back out there at all. I'll only starting making decisions about the implications of his injury on his long-term mobility next year in all likelihood, unless he either reinjures the leg or starts running around this year like he used to. I agree that FWP is a much better runner this year. I was impressed with his designed runs and cuts upfield between the tackles.

-Culpepper was fearing the blitz all night. He rushed his throws when he did not have to. Props to Ron Brown and the Miami O-line for their pass protection. Culpepper will develop a comfort zone as the season progresses.

-The Miami O-line looked over-matched when it came to run blocking. The unit needs time to gel.

-Ron Brown runs hard every play, yards will come.

-Wes Welker single-handedly kept Miami in this game (with his returns and clutch receiving plays)

-FWP will make his owners very happy this year.

-Pitt is an amazing organization, they just know how to get it done. My hats off to them.

-I am unfortunately a Lions fan.

Disclaimer - feel free to bucket these as one week over-reactions.

Miami D is not the sleeper D everyone thought it was going to be this year. You cannot let Surtain, Madison, Ogunleye etc just walk and expect to continue to be good.

Ronnie Brown will not get 2 Stephen Davis type TDs. Looking at how his OL didnot give him much chance all day, he is not going to produce as per his ADP (top 8 pick in most drafts)

FWP looked good, but again, like last year, TDs will be what is going to be key.

Culpepper looked like how he looked last year without Moss at the start of the year. When he is forced to go to his 2nd and 3rd reads, he is not very good. Too many underthrown balls too.

I have to question Miami’s playcalling/formations at the end of the 1st half. The drive that ended in the FG, they were 1st and goal on about the 7. 40 seconds to go with 2 timeouts. Why lineup in shotgun formation and make yourself one dimensional?

Also Sabin has to make a better effort to get the officials attention for the replay.

Got to say, I've seen this kind of talk in a bunch of threads over the past week and I completely disagree. Why is everyone so convinced he will automatically break down? Tiki Barber, Clinton Portis, and Curtis Martin are all almost the EXACT same size as Willie Parker. Those guys have all done pretty darn well with a major workload over the years. Could he get dinged up? Absolutely. Is it a foregone conclusion? Not by a long shot

My Pit/Mia quick hits:

-I'm so glad the NFL is back in action. Good game to kick it off with.

-I think the Pitt defense is very solid and Polamalu is a manchild (how can one man cover so much ground?)

-I'm glad I own Ronnie Brown in a league, I think he will have a very good season after being productive against a great defense and it looks like they will lean on him heavily.

-FWP looked even better than last year and should have had 2 TD's in that game.

-I'm very ticked at myself for sitting Heath Miller in a league that gives TE's 1pt/5yds rec

Taylor was quoted as saying he estimated he dropped 12 interceptions last year alone. That's the difference between $6M and $10M signing bonus.

The dropped INTs are frustrating, but as long as he keeps shutting down the oppositions' #1 WR, I won't complain too much about him! People talk about how Chambers dropped the TD pass, but I guess no one noticed Taylor's left hand that was between both of Chambers' hands.He even got the best of Chad Johnson last year with the exception of a 40+ yard pass in garbage time at the end of their first meeting.INTs or not, I feel great having him out there and locked up.
