Michael Bennett's value in TB? (1 Viewer)

No one can deny that the guy has serious speed and good hands... The question is can he stay healthy? If he can, he could be a good RB2 available for next to nothing in most leagues.

I thought his hands were suspect?

Graham will most likely carry the load the next couple of weeks while Bennett learns the playbook. If Graham does well Bennett probably only sees a few carries while Pittman is still out.

When Pittman returns I think he and Graham will see most of the carries.

Bennett has an outside shot at getting significant playing time but I think it is a pretty long shot that Bennett would provide any RB#2 value.

I think Bennett will get at least 50% of the carries since he is a multi-purpose RB that can catch the ball and TB doesn't have any other RB on the team with pass catching credentials.

TB is loaded with full back type guys or guys that aren't known for catching the ball including Earnest Graham (poor receiving skills last week), BJ Askew (fullback) and Zack Crockett (fullback).

Pittman would be the competition except that he's out 6-8 weeks with torn ligaments in his ankle.

Even with Pittman, Bennett may be the better RB.

KC was just loaded and they still are with Holmes coming back, Kolby Smith on the bench and Derrick Ross if he's on the practice squad.

BTW, no news on what KC got in compensation but it wouldn't suprise me to see that KC got one of TB's fullbacks. Right not they're going to try to go with a first year and newly converted FB Boomer Grigsby who was injured in the preseason. Additionally, KC has a sucky OL so a decent FB might help spring LJ for some effective yardage.

But would it be worth it to drop either Watson or Norwood to land Bennett?
No...and honestly, I don't see how people are expecting Bennett to jump right in here and make a difference right away. Graham's still going to be the guy immediately. A few more bad games, yeah, then Bennett's value may jump. But I wouldn't go crazy over Bennett unless you're desperate. And the fact that Kansas City would trade Bennett in favor of keeping a very VERY questionable Priest Holmes at this point speaks volumes to me.

:pickle: Don't forget that Gruden is first among pass-heavy coaches so temper your expectations of any RB in Tampa Bay's system.

Then why trade for him?

Because you're possibly a serious contender in a wide-open conference, your RB depth is highly suspect and you're not giving up much to get him.I don't see Bennett stepping into a starting role at this point. His best days are in the past. He isn't a good receiver by any means; he's simply a guy who can be very effective if he gets the ball in space due to his speed (which he still has). But he isn't a prototypical third-down RB like Pittman, for example. My take is that unless Graham plays himself out of the job (not out of the question) he remains the starter until Pittman returns. Bennett would be a change-of-pace and he'd get the third-down looks if Graham's receiving skills don't improve. Bennett does bring more speed to the position and that will be a complement to Graham's more straight-ahead type of running style. I think we'll learn a lot about Graham this week. He has a very favorable matchup against the Lions. If he does well, Gruden will keep going with him. If he flops, then the door is wide open for someone (anyone) to step into the picture. Just my two cents. If you're a Graham owner, if he does well this week I'd look to move him next week. The Bucs get the Jags in Week 8 and Graham isn't gonna do squat against them. So if he has a good game against the Lions I'd Sell High if you can.

Im going to totally avoid Bennett.

Maybe he can do some good in TB and for fantasy, but I dont like what he brings to the football field at all.

And occasional long run and not much else. Too much Tatum Bell-esque for my tastes.

At this point you wouldnt be betting on Bennett so much as you are betting on Gruden to do something with him.

Even then, Graham likely still gets the majority of goalline carries.
