Michael Vick --Keeper value (1 Viewer)

The ESPN fantasy guys are idiots all around. Not only are they wrong more times than they are right (yes, if i had access i would test wehther monkeeys throwing darts would be superior), but they lie about being wrong/right. However, one really good thing they did last time i listened to them was what they called a name game where they compare the value of one person vs other people. And since this game is all about RELATIVE value --believe me, it doesn't help when someone says "yes, that guys is very good" since the question is, how good is "very good?" And our measuring stick in this game, our currency, is relative value.

So, in your standard PPR league, where would you rank Vick? Since the only place i know where to get a current top 100 rankings list is from the aforementioned "idiots all around" at ESPN, we will take their list. Now, this is meant to be redraft i think, but my question is in regards to dynasty or keeper formats. Assume there is no cost at keeping players (you don't lose the round you drafted the guy, etc) so you want the best player available in a vacuum. you can use the list below or simply bring up some of your own names around where you would rate Vick, again in a keeper league, for next year.

In my opinion, Vick's value is not as high as the top tier QBs like Brees, Rodgers, manning, etc. For one, Vick is getting older and his game is highly dependent on athleticism. I'm not sure for how many more years this guy can keep it up. Secondly, we don't know where Vick will be next year. Will he be an Eagle, or not? If he is not an Eagle, and they go with Kolb, then will he be as successful? Taking all this into account, i would pace a 5th or 6th round value on the guy. I would put him around the same level i would put say forte, Beenie Wells, Anquon Boldin, Rothlesburger, Shaub, Maclin, Mike williams (both), Percy Harvin, etc. If it is too complicated to gauge Vicks value relative to all players, then feel free to rate him relative to just QBs. This is where i would rate him in relation to just QBs.

I'd put him right around QB5. Somewhere around Round 5-6 sounds right.
Yeah, but would you pick vick ahead of other RBs, let's say mid-tier ones like Forte, Beenie and i guess even Deangelo, although I would rank him much higher than "mid-tier" in a keeper, i think that's where Deangelo's value lies right now. Or what about other WRs like Crabtree, Bowe, basically mid-tier WRs. Some of us in Keeper leagues have to choose a number of players to keep for next year, and it has always been so tough for me to rate QBs vs RBs or WRs.

Obviously we will see how he finishes the season, but I think you guys are crazy. In the actual games he has played in he he is qb#1, and while he is getting older, the time off means that he has less milage. I do not see how he will lose his elusiveness overnight, meaning he probably has at least 2-3 good years left, as a keeper what more can you ask for as only the best of the best are able to string together multiple all pro seasons together. People forget how valuable he was before his arrest.

I would put him at QB #5 and about player #32 overall.

He somehow has become a better passer and still had the arm to get it out quick, hard and far.

He and Jackson will be a strong duo for the rest of this year.

If he stays with Philly he will climb a few spots.

Should have clarified: I meant overall Round 5-6 overall (i.e. an initial startup draft). (You'll have to adjust for your # of keepers) I'd take him ahead of Bowe and probably the majority of mid-tier WR's. I only play in dynasty leagues, so I'd imagine the RB's have a bit more value in keepers (depending on your # of keepers) than dynasty leagues.

Tweets from Laconfora (or was it Mort?) this week said the Eagles are likely to sign him. I dont think the trade market has caught up with the probability of that occuring. Signed or not, he still comes in behind Manning, Rivers and Brees. He and Rodgers are 4/5 QB and not higher due to durability. Per expected game played, however, they both might slide ahead of Brees/Manning at this point.

It's not really the mileage as much as it is the age. Look, people slow down as they age. Vick is on the wrong side of 30. The thing with Vick is that he was so fast the begin with --on a tangent, in my opinion Vick was the fastest/quickest non track star I have ever seen play in any sport at any time --that even though he has slowed down a bit, he is still faster than most if not all of the NFL. But his athletic ability has already started to degrade and it will continue. I'm not sure he has 2-3 years of his current ability left.

The problem is that you can't say "per game played" you know what i mean? Injury, durability, etc., all play a part. Still, in a redraft next year, assuming he is with the Eagles, there are only 2 QBs i would take ahead of Vick, and that's Rivers/Manning. So i tend to agree with your overall point, that Vick is very good. And in my opinion, quite underrated.
