NEW YORK — Michael Vick has been conditionally reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Vick can participate without delay in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games — if he can find a team that will sign him.

Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities other than games, but could play as soon as October.

Goodell called a news conference for late Monday afternoon.

Buffalo.

They already grabbed T.O. and reports from fans at the first days of camp are that Trent Edwards has not looked good.
God I hope he never comes to Buffalo.I was just coming on here to say that I hope he fails in the NFL.

And let's remember the bolded part

IMO no team signs him til after the end of training camp when he can better sneak in under the radar w/ the protesters.

Could you imagine the inaccurate Vick throwing to drop-the-ball Owens? 25% completion percentage, and at least 4-5 Owens sideline blowups per year.

I'll go with Dan Snyder picking him up thus forcing Zorn to coach him. When it fails miserably, Zorn is fired at end of year.

It will be a nightmare for any team that signs him.

People will protest the games and throw dog biscuits at him.

week 6 actually he is reinstated.

WHY??? Damn hasn't be been punished enough? He already served a ton more time any other first offender would for dog fighting , paid 10's of millions ( or lost out on ) , has been out for 2 years. WTF Goodell you could have thrown him a little bone and let him play right away.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Commissioner Roger Goodell for allowing me to be readmitted to the National Football League," Vick said, via Segal. "I fully understand that playing football in the NFL is a privilege, not a right, and I am fully thankful for that opportunity I have been given.

"As you can imagine, the last two years have given me the time to reevaluate my life, mature as an individual, and fully understand the terrible mistakes I made in the past and what type of life I must lead moving forward. Again, I would like to thank Commissioner Goodell for the chance to return to the game I love and the opportunity to become an example of positive change.

"Finally, I want to sincerely thank Coach Dungy for being in my corner, and I look forward to him being a mentor for me."

He'll have a job 2 weeks from now.
I don't disagree, but where? IMO, only certain franchises could make a case for signing him. So I think only teams that don't really need him (a sure fire contender even if he does nothing) or teams that haven't won in a long time (so they have nothing to lose by bringing him in).I would think a team would initially only want him to come in as a backup, maybe come in on a few wildcat plays, and down stream might be in line to compete for a job.Candidates?

He'll play again. Having a relationship with Dungy will help him, and I don't see Dungy as a guy that could get fooled into being used by Vick as a PR stunt.

Positioning. It gets Goodell off the hook for those that think Vick got off easy.

Well, now he has his chance to resume his career. As commissioner Goodell emphasized in the written statement, whether Vick is fully reinstated or not is up to his behavior over the next 10 weeks.

We'll see how important his career really is to Michael Vick over the next 4-5 months...

I think he's gone anyway if the Skins don't make the playoffs. Sorry..off topic....just sayingI hope the Pats get him. Are the Raiders a possibility?

IMO he must go to the Jags. They really need to sell tickets, they need some excitement around that team (any press is good press) and I hate to say it but Vicks actions may be accepted better in a southern community.

I don't think so. The whole point of him being conditionally reinstated is so he can have the benefit of training camp and getting back in game form. Especially with the wild cat most likely in his future, any team that signs him will want preseason time spent on that with him. Waiting so they would avoid protesters is a pretty minor reason as compared to having him ready to play. Without the benefit of training camp, having been out of the league 2 years, there would really be no point in signing him at all. He'd be useless for 2009.And the protesters will be there regardless. No point in trying to sneak him in. With all the pub surrounding this, it wouldn't matter when he signs. There will be a PR hit for whoever signs him, they already know that, and so anyone making the decision to do so is already making the decision to live with whatever protests occur.

How do you figure southern communities are more accepting of Vicks actions.

:blackdot: Just as Roger Goodell and the various employees at the NFL offices in New York City must be bracing themselves for the inevitable backlash tomorrow.

Dog fighting is more prevalent in southern communities than it is in the North East and Mid West . If you do a google search you can read about it.

Why do we need punished with his awful QB play? Goodell is thinking about the fans.

dog fighting is more prevalent in the south is it not? I wasn't the OP, but agree with the sentiments...I think it's Carolina or Jax

Somebody was :fishing:

I think he gets signed as a slot receiver/wildcat QB, not a full time QB.

Options would be where the WR depth is in question: Cleveland, San Fran, Jax, Tenn

last thread-they'll play "who let the dogs out" when he scores a TD

this thread-they'll throw dog biscuits at him.

Entertaining.

Vick, get a job and start paying back for the room and board you have had for the past 20 + months. Hope Vick does get his life back on track; as for playing QB !; want to see him fail on the field. guys, vick was not that good of QB. Learn another job and start paying taxes.

I personally wouldn't have given him any more suspension. But looking at the feedback from this, looks like Goodell made a pretty good call. Lots of people mad on both sides. Pretty equally split between the people that think he was too harsh and those that think he was too lenient. That's probably a pretty good call then.

I would be absolutely shocked if the Skins signed Vick. Few other teams in the league place as much emphasis on character wrt to personnel as Washington does. Even taking that out of the equation, the Skins run the WCO, which Vick is obviously ill suited to run.

Why do people always mention WR when talking about Vick? Any evidence that he can play WR?

Did he NOT LIE to Goodell a number of times when this first came up? I'd have him banned for 12 months before I'd conditionally re-instate him into the league. Let's see how he does in society before he should be brought back in. It's not just dog fighting, it's also the treatment of the dogs, killing the dogs, etc..etc as well. He wasn't a victim, he put all this on himself.. he only has himself to blame here.

That's a good question dgreen. I dunno why people do this. This exact thing came up for me Friday talking with a friend about Tim Tebow. People say he'll be an Hback. I ask, what exactly have you seen that shows he'd be a good Hback?Vick is a freakish athlete. But don't know that he'd make it as a WR.J

You answered your own question as to both. Neither one of them is a very good passer, both both are incredibly talented players, therefore it is in a team's best interest to get them on the field. Vick's speed as a slot receiver/wildcat QB would be extremely dangerous if he even has only above average hands. Tebow's athleticism and size make him a good H-Back option.Fact of the matter is, I don't think there is any NFL team out there that wants him as a QB, but I think there are many that want him on their roster...and Mike no longer has the clout to demand to be played at his chosen position.

Ok. Running Back then.Any evidence he can play QB?
How many Pro Bowl seasons has he had?J
Please don't use the Pro Bowl as a method of trying to prove actual talent. Vick was a star in the NFL. He was a talented runner, a great improvisor and a poor passer.

Any idea on timeframe for a team signing him? Is it possible that nobody will sign him?
Sure it's possible. But I'll be very surprised if he doesn't have a job within 2 weeks. The PR costs to signing him are high. But the payoff on the field could be big. It will be a team that is strong enough to handle the PR troubles.I'm with Dungy on this one. I hope he straightens up and that he does great.J
