Michelle Bachmann (3 Viewers)

Man she does your district and the things you support a huge disservice every time she opens her mouth. I am a little surprised to find out you support this trainwreck. Oh well your call. Enjoy.
So she's ineloquent. Big deal.
She's an idiot and a bomb thrower who is a pawn of the worst elements of the fringe right. You are far more qualified to have that seat then she will ever be. Heck probably than most members of Congress for that matter. But she is offensively insipid and a smart guy like you defends that? Really I am surprised.
Don't think I don't know that. "Offensively insipid"? Come on NCC. I think you're overstating it just like her political opponents are just to make your point seem more valid. You're engaging in hyperbole.

And anyway, Henry Waxman says that people that oppose Cap & Trade are un-American and nobody says "boo". So let's be a bit fair here.
Hadn't read that, if he said it he is an idiot for saying it. But Waxman isn't on the front page every week for some whackadoodle crap he is spouting. She is.
Now why do you suppose that is?

Mark Kennedy, the 6th District's congressman since 2001, announced in late 2005 that he would be running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Mark Dayton of the DFL. Bachmann states she was called by God to run for the seat, and that she and her husband fasted for three days to be sure.

 Christians do that sort of thing.

Because she says stupid stuff at a rate that it can't be ignored and he generally doesn't? Oh no wait I know. It is a massive conspiracy that includes Fox news right? Seriously man I would have never thought you'd defend this lame excuse for a conservative. Oh well I guess it is really all about my rep right or wrong and if anybody questions then it is time to deflect and finger point wildly.

Brother, you and I both know that there are plenty of poeple in politics that say stuff as or more stupid at a rate equal to or greater than that which Bachmann does. Yet they don't get a fraction of the coverage when they do.Her's is a vulnerable seat (giggle). That's why she's getting the press she is. I suspect you know that. And I further expect that she knows that since she's obviously trying to make a name for herself. I think she saw what happened to Palin and wants a piece of that action.Do I wish that she'd tone down the rhetoric a notch or eleven? Of course.

Her math skills also leave something to be desired. More than half of their income? Really? Maybe if you're pulling down a high-seven-figure income and live in one of a handful of states with high state tax rates. You think those people feel like slaves? Go ahead, pitch that one to the masses, Michelle. I'm sure it will go over well.
I'd wager that by the time you add up your local, state, federal, sales, property, excise, capital gains, etc. taxes, there are many people that at least approach if not exceed taxes of 50% of their income. If you're in the top brackets in Minnesota, you're paying 42.85% in income taxes.
How can you say this without knowing what a particular person is making?Or are you confusing marginal rate with actual rate?I'm guessing you are, and so is Michelle.
Do you not think that there are people paying that as an effective rate? Do you think that's fair?
I do think that there are a few people paying that. Emphasis on "a few." My best guess is that you have to be making several million dollars and living in New York or a city with a similar federal, state AND local tax rate.I don't think there are "many" by any definition of the word, thus, Bachmann was being misleading. Is it "fair"? That's a pretty deep philosophical question, and beside the point in my opinion. I do think that people tend to mistakenly value real dollars gained or lost instead of the average marginal utility of additional dollars of income when assessing "fairness" of taxation. But that's neither here nor there. The point is that the woman is full of it.

Fair enough. :lmao:

I think she should have used "go to the mattresses" instead of "slit our wrists". Sure she's full of it. But why she's being singled out like she is is a bit disingenuous to me.To be totally honest, I don't pay much attention to what Bachmann has to say. Is she really out there in the media that much?

Here's what I know. She has the seat in the most Republican friendly district in Minnesota. The district McCain won the highest percentage of votes in. The district that gave Pawlenty a 20 point win over Davis. The only reason she is vulnerable is she is an idiot. If that seat is vulnerable then she has no one to blame but herself.

Yeah she is. And she makes her district look really bad doing it.

Huh. I'll have to pay more attention. Hopefully she will lose in 2010 which will give me an opportunity to run in 2012.
I would proudly illegally vote for you.
Yes, but would you do it more than once? :)

Mine was more of a general statement than about Bachmann herself - the question was how to these people keep getting elected (loons from both sides).
Sorry, I didn't even read your statment all the way through. Were you referring to he statement about fearing that Obama's policies might be un-American? Because I have an opinion on that, as you might imagine.
I'm interested in your take on that, if you don't mind. I'll keep an open mind.
This is embarrassing Andy. This woman is an ignorant kook. Color me VERY surprised that you support her. :)

Wait lizard people are running? Nobody told they were in it! Oh what the heck not like I can't vote illegally more than once. I'll just vote more often for Andy. I am a registered Democrat after all.

I pay well over half my income in assorted taxes and fees, and I'm not wealthy or making a seven figure income by any stretch. State income taxes, state sales taxes, property taxes, FICA, sin taxes, etc. all add up pretty quickly.

I've gotta give some credit to Bachmann. At least even she realizes that she is a complete moron:

"I look at the Scripture and I read it and I take it for what it is. I give more credence in the Scripture as being kind of a timeless word of God to mankind, and I take it for what it is. And I don't think I give as much credence to my own mind, because I see myself as being very limited and very flawed, and lacking in knowledge, and wisdom and understanding. So, I just take the Bible for what it is, I guess, and recognize that I am not a scientist, not trained to be a scientist. I'm not a deep thinker on all of this. I wish I was. I wish I was more knowledgeable, but I'm not a scientist." - Michele Bachmann interviewing with Todd Fiel at KKMS as quoted in the Stillwater Gazette, September 29, 2003.

Now it's a party. I'll bring the rubber sheets whose got the whipped cream?
I think Michelle Bachman would be staunchly opposed to this type of activity.
Oh she would be in. I bet you she is a party girl from way back.
Totally, those crazies are always freaky!! I bet she would freak out a good 2/3 of the sex machines in the FFA.

Only for those that vote for her as a public servant in perhaps the most complex political system on the planet.

Bachmann also claimed that many Americans pay more than half their income in taxes, adding “it’s nothing more than slavery.”
She's correct on this one.
I'd like to see a respectable link that indicates anything close to that statement. From most of what I can find, the average total tax burden hovers around about 30%. I find it hard to believe that "many" pay more than half in taxes if the "average" amount is 30%. Some information can be found here that seems to counter this claim. I couldn't find any information any where else that gave even a rough percent of income American paid, other than the one at this website.

So admitting you don't know as much as God makes you a moron?

Pretty sure that's the part people are picking on. She calls herself stupid essentially but she wants to legislate some of the most complex issues in the world and to be taken seriously while doing it.

is she still defending BP and calling their $20Billion a slush fund?
I hope so.Edit: Okay, not really. I think the sentiment that we need to be careful to follow the rule of law here and not let the federal government bully money from private enterprise is a valid one. I also don't think MB has thought about it quite that deeply. She found a populist drumhead to beat and she's whacking it.
